  • In the riveting suspense drama, "Chappaquiddick," the scandal and mysterious events surrounding the tragic drowning of a young woman, as Ted Kennedy (Jason Clarke) drove his car off the infamous bridge, are revealed. Not only did this event take the life of an aspiring political strategist and Kennedy insider, but it ultimately changed the course of presidential history forever. Through true accounts, documented in the inquest from the investigation in 1969, the film intimately exposes the broad reach of political power, the influence of America's most celebrated family; and the vulnerability of Ted Kennedy, the youngest son, in the shadow of his family legacy.

Watch a documentary on Chappaquiddick on RUclips. They poke holes all over the story as it was told. The detective doesn't believe Ted was in the car at all when it went into water. The detectives theory definitely sounds more logical and explains why Ted didn't report it that night. He didn't know about it until the following morning.

This really exposes the problems in this country's political system. America went to a lot of trouble to get away from a concentration of power in the hands of a few through the Revolution in 1776. When Franklin Roosevelt was elected for an unprecedented 4 terms during the Great Depression and WWII, Congress wrote a law limiting presidential terms to 2 to avoid one man getting too much power which could lead to possible tyranny. Congressional terms should also be limited to avoid any one person becoming entrenched in a seat. With seniority comes power, and this avoids any one state from wielding more power than the others.
This can be gradually done by making a law that mandates that all newly elected congressmen are held to term limits while those already employed as congressmen can be reelected by the old rules.
People will be elected, serve their terms, and leave. No entrenchment, no permanent career path, no tenure-tract, no power-building.
    Term limits.

She didn't drown. She suffocated. That's an absolute.

Unbelievably, Jason Clarke was born on July 17, 1969. A day before the incident.

Mr. Clarke did do a good job playing it minute to minute, as he spoke about. Mr. Helms and Mr. Gaffigan played well against Mr. Clarke. Well acted. Movie is going to have a good run and a good life. Good interview, here, too.

Ted did not break his back in this incident. He broke it five years earlier in a plane crash. H sprained his neck according to his physician requiring a neck brace.

Fun fact.. actor Jason Clarke did literally more to help Mary Jo Kopechne than the real Ted Kennedy.

+Gamer Norcal " wow he's not even an American. Could have fooled me. Good acting! Got the Boston accent of those times down pat. "
He has fooled no one but you. This man is a HORRIBLE actor. I don't know how he's able to get work, honestly. He's not good looking on camera either, and I'm trying to be nice here. I had a hard time watching him on screen in Terminator Genysis for too long because he really is so unattractive to look at. I'm not sure I'll be able to watch Chappaqiddick knowing he is the lead actor, because he'll be on screen for long periods & I think I might throw up looking at him.

There were only a FEW honest players in all of this. One was the judge who told Kennedy to his face during sentencing that he thought Kennedy was lying.
