Bread slicing machine was introduced in 1928, before that sandwiches used mostly stable bread because cutting a soft, fresh loaf of bread was rather cumbersome task. Bread slicer truly revolutionized how people eat bread by making sandwiches much more popular.

I love the top captions! I am hard of hearing, and always have to have captions on, but actually kind of hate that they are always on the bottom of the screen. Especially with channels like binging with babish bc a lot of the actual cooking takes place right behind the darned captions.
I will say, however, I love finding the odd silly error in the automatically generated ones haha

I vote to give Barry license to salt and pepper all sandwiches regardless of what the recipe says. That way we get a better/more accurate rating on the "original". [And I do understand that some recipe books include salt and pepper on some recipes but not others.] What say you all?

Halibut is another one of many foods that was poor people food until the foodie culture noticed it. Now along with oysters, lobster, salmon, brisket, lamb and mutton, pork belly, shrimp, crawfish, crab, etc. has been elevated to designer level. Consequently, its all priced out of average people's budgets.

I've seen tripe priced near ground beef levels. Chitlins, seriously? They used to give it away at pennies per pound, which is how it became known as a po' folk food. Same with chicken wings. It seem every part of an animal will eventually get trendy and become stupid priced. Ox tail, for instance. Anyone want to gamble on cow hoof futures?

Ahhh, mayonnaise. America's favorite snack, non-carbonated beverage, and antiperspirant. I prefer Borden Brand Mayonnaise, as it is made from only two ingredients: egg yolks, and the milk from the Great Mayo Ape. Even two random men from the rabbit track can identify Borden Brand Mayonnaise as mayonnaise! (It also counts if they accidentally say the word "mayonnaise" because they read it on the label.)
