This is THE game when football people took notice and believed that Everton had a chance that season....Andy Gray must be proud of they two diving headers, within four minutes of each other (especially the second one)....the third goal sums up the power of that midfield...Reid to Bracewell....I don't think I have ever seen a better pass than that, bringing out the class and guile of Trevor Steven.....all that's missing here is a Sheedy contribution...I visited Goodison Park the other week (wearing my retro 85 Cup Winners Cup final top....), just to walk around it....a special atmosphere.....Some team.....could mix it as well, but they couldn't half play.....
Got to say Sunderland could have considered themselves a but hard done by as Walker's first disallowed goal was borderline and the second he was at least a yard onside. Everton at that time though were imperious and if Sunderland had scored three, Everton would have scored six.
"Another superb goal!" - A very memorable John Motism following Trevor Steven's brilliant strike - not to mention 2 superb headers from Andy Gray. How could we let him leave Goodison!?! - I still haven't forgiven Gary Lineker for precipitating the break-up of that team....
@@PlainTraces Nah - Lineker & Kendall were the only 2 real mercenaries. Most of the team stayed on for another 2 - 3 yrs - but losing Andy Gray, Gary Lineker and our most successful manager within 12 months of each other was bound to affect our momentum.. And it's hard to be too bitter about the effects of Heysel on EFC given what LFC went through on that fateful day in Sheffield in 1989...
@@peterw8735 You are talking through your arse. And if our ball had come out of the bag instead of the Dark Side, do you really think they would have supported the Hillsborough campaign as well as we did. No they fucking wouldn’t. They are wallpushing murderers, never forget that.
4:20 that pass from Bracewell!

Sunderland were very unlucky here but that Everton team was on another level!!
Great side full of talent would’ve won the CL following season if not for an unfair ban
The only time in MOTD history, goal of the month, second and third were scored in the same game by the same team!
Still the best Everton side of all time come on Everton 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙

Players as good as we had weren’t going to wait 5 years to play in the European Cup, blame Liverpool not Lineker.

Clive Walker was onside. Everton should have been 2-0 down.
