God bless every man and woman who came to Australia to help. You can check the footage, we were crying and clapping at the airport, the skies were blood red.

“NSW, the area around Sydney” for anyone curious of the actual range he was working in given that description, Sydney is the capital of the state New South Wales, which is around twice the size of Germany, with an ancient mountain range, vast forests of many ecosystems, much of the Murray-Darling basic between said mountains and the outback, almost a third of Australia’s population, and a decent area of the actual outback in its far west. It gets snow, has rainforests, deserts and most in between.
The idea that this state was covered in fires and only made up a minority of the nations fires is hard to comprehend in terms of scale.

4 years late to this story, but I just wanted to say thanks for this story.
You Americans freak me out sometimes with just how on edge you pushin social incoherence, but then stories like this remind me why I ride with you on the big stuff.
Stay Safe, stay sane, for all our sakes.
It's just life, don't take it so serious, it isn't permanent.

There are angels who walk among us, hidden under layers of smoke, ash, dirt, and soot, and they are our firefighters. When the fires of Hell itself come to rain down upon us, they stand up and say "Not today, and not now." From Aussie to Yank, and back again, my thanks.

It's sad what's going on in Australia. It is even more sad that most of those fire were started by people.

most weren't stared by people they were caused by the heat on dead grass and leaves that's why we do back burning in spring

the Government didn't allow back burning, which has always been our protection, that and our volunteer fire fighters. A couple of them died in these fires. RIP.
