- Caterpillar's 983 tracked loader was first launched in 1969. The standard bucket capacity was 4.5 yards but was increased to 5 cubic yards by 1972. Power came from a D343 six cylinder turbocharged diesel engine developing 275 flywheel-horsepower. By 1978 the 983B was available. No change was made to bucket capacity or power but the weight was increased by 1 ton to 39.3 US tons. The 983B featured pedal steering, freeing the operator’s hands for the transmission and loader controls. An automatic bucket control system allowed the bucket to rise to a pre-set dumping height and return to a pre-set digging angle for fast cycle times. In 1983 Caterpillar discontinued the 983B and has not produced a tracked loader as large since. Awesome Earthmovers filmed this 983B at the 2018 Welland steam fair in Gloucestershire, U.K. #bulldozer #excavator #digger
I was an operator for a demolition company in Ohio and got the pleasure of operating the 983. It had a rebuilt engine and gobs of power. You could feel the ground shake when it goes past you. It wasn't fast, but then it's not built for speed. And built like an Abrams tank. I think the only plastic or rubber was the fan belt and the guage covers. They don't build like that anymore.
Sure is a nice one
I like these Tier 0 diesel machines, no DPF or tricky sensors / software updates down times
Ran a new B yes ago on large sewer projects backfilling and grading. We had this and a couple 977’L’s 983 was a total monster
I had a 977, the next size down, the word "beast" does not begin to describe it. If you somehow fell off the machine while it was moving there would be nothing to put in front of it to stop it. Everyone at Cat had to be smiling watching this thing get tested for the first time.
Travis B I had a 977… it was no match to the Allis Chalmers 12G or the monster 21G
Never seen one. If it was better than a 977, it must have been a tank with a bucket.
impressive. ..
as a kid i used to watch (hole in the fence ) operation of the 977../955 on residential demolition and excavation sites....before modern excavators.. skilled operators...awsome. .!!
Same here. Colonial pipeline came through when I was 5 or 6 and all those steel monsters rumbling and cutting and digging began a lifelong admiration for both operators and machines.
Just when you think a regular tracked loader would load up and stop that monster just keeps pushing.
I operated a cat 983 in 1974 and it is the best loader i hve ever operated .
Great digging power .
A D8 but with a bucket.
Excellent 👍 love that perfectly timed music of cat tracks , click click, click . Beautifull
This Reminds Me The One From The 1993 Film Once Upon A Forest
Love watching that Caterpillar work without straining.
I ran a old cat 977 at that time my boss installed D8 Grouser pads tracks That thing was a beast
Nice machines 977cat and 983cat front end loader
You named 2 of the best loaders i hve operated.
I always wonder how many residential basements were dug with this. Before the large excavator, was created, this was the go to machine.
Yes they built about 700 homes behind where we lived. My Dad and Grandfather did all the brickwork, fireplaces and chimneys. There was a fella Marty who had a 955 track loader and he dug every foundation and every house had a basement. Made it look effortless even digging shale. Great machine run by an awesome guy that made life easier for everyone on the jobsite for years.
No residential basements with a 983! 955 and 977 for that.
Very cool to see one of these still running. Super video 👍
Construction Machines Channel I’ve been wanting to get a video of a 983 for ages. I was like a kid in a candy store when I spotted it working!
Awesome Earthmovers Haha I'd say so. There's something about the machines from that era that are great to watch
ran 951 always liked 2 lever control
It's amazing power. It's cool. I appreciate from Japan.
The straight 983 is good but the 983b is a absolute beast and so much fun to run.
Love those old style high lifts
Most ran in Mine's/Quarries or in steel mills. When used in dirt the winch was used a lot .
Video never does justice to equipment. The ground shakes as these things move.
Smooth and powerful.
Schönes Laderäupchen....die hat Dampf ! 💪👍
Imagine this with single grouser pads
They wont insure the transmission with grouser or ads because they are designed to slip better for the turn while bucket is loaded
This is my favorite equipment
Wow the return to dig works
Favorite cat traxcavator
It's a pity they couldn't find him something to load.
I also have a very nice 955L, someone is always tryn to buy it from me, it my not be as fast as a 53 but it will give you a day every day and it only has 2 wires on it a black one and a red one🤣
Wow, that machine is impressive. It must wear down the bucket fairly quick. Nice operating, nice machine.. I would rather have a blade on a smaller dozer , this machine seems heavy enough to care less.
Good machine especially with pole
But how bout that Detroit at 9:44? You could hear that thing a mile away over everything else!!!
TerexAirPlane!!!
that is a horse long live caterpillar
Why has it got round holes in the side of the bucket?
That's why they make a 973 cat track loader now but l think this one is better built than the newer ones....
Nice! I want one 👍
What a beast.
I ran one of these a many a day. I was great to push dirt with and trees but I hated the two stick bucket to load with.
Mr. Henderson, what was that long pipe they used to connect to the front bucket. They used to do demolition with. It had a hammer type end. Maybe 50’ in length?
Awesome old tractor. What's purpose of holes in sides of bkt?
Yeah. Same question.
Water,
Ho Lavorato con. 955L / 977L / e963 ! Peccato ! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
All power shift no hystat .....
Passione trattori
if anyone is interested in these, contact me! i have 2 that run and 1 i need to check out i haven't touched it in years. a friend rebuild these for most of the country at one point which is how we always were able to get so many
BungBungRippa Where are you located?
Buffalo, NY
BungBungRippa
How much you asking for the 983b?
Very Interested!!! How much? Got any pictures?
looking for 25k i do have pictures how should i send them to you
I operated one in Bayonne NJ & in the military it's a good Demo Machine
What are the holes for in the bucket
I wonder too...
Why is there those holes open on the side of the bucket?. Why not close them?
it worth noting that cat 955,977,and 983 out sold komatsu by a longway its getting harder to see komatsu loaders now days not that u wood want to
Here in Australia we have cats that we call drots that have four in one buckets, not to sure of the model number but there a fair size.
UK too..we call them 'Drotts.'
There's one in the background
Drott was the make of the 4in1 bucket usually fitted to an international machine. The name was on the side of the bucket- hence everyone called them a drott
What does it sell forany body know that size it sells for
I would like one.
we still have one identical running you interested? is anyone interested?
@bungbungrippa yes I am
i would love one but i have to hit the lottery first, what is the cost of one. i have a case 450 track loader now. want to switch?
no not trolling we have one in Lockport New York
Lockport, New York ill figure out a price im out of town but i should be back home this weekend
The main reason this tractor was descontinued was the fuel consumption and undercarriage failures and expensive service. And today's differential locked wheel loaders are more capable to handle such a load like that, faster and less expensive!
Does anybody can tell me the owner of this cat? Because I have a special question.
the one in the background pretty old no cab on it..
I didnt no they made one that big
Huge..32.5 Tonnes in weight
metric or standard ton
@@viseshseernam39 'Tonnes' is standard Metric
Der Komatzu D 155 S war grösser ca. 41 Tonnen.
Does it compete with a 973 ???
Does anyone know the owner of that machine?
Who match this machine?!
Está para la venta estoy interesado
Lo que yo digo....que no es la más grande.
I miss this style of track loaders!!! the new style is sooo ugly :(
A 963/953 will still run circles around a 955/977
These old gals tore down and built America. I agree, the new machines are piss ugly & will be long dead and scrapped while these old girls will still be running
@@giannalynnwreckingco.7110 953C will still beat up on a 955L all day and last just as long.
Gầu máy như xúc lật
International 250 loader was comparable to this machine

Look closely, what do you think?
👍👍👍💕💕
