ND Filter Comparison: K&F Concept ND8-2000 vs PolarPro Variable ND
- In this video I make a comparison of the K&F Concept ND8-2000 variable ND filter with the PolarPro 2-5 Stop variable ND filter. Both have a thread size of 82mm. I compare them in terms of quality, price, color shift and vignetting. Since the polar pro filter is 6 times more expensive than the K&F filter, this should be obvious - but it isn't ;-)
I used both filters with my Sony A7siii and filmed a commercial with the K&F Concept filter, which I show at the end of this video.

Thanks a lot for your comment! I‘m definitely looking for this brand for my next filters, they are surprisingly good!
"It's a 300 bucks noise" 😂
Peter is a pirate. He scams his fans. Have you seen his $100 multi tool lol
Very nice comparison. Just ordered the K&F. Also, excellent work on the commercial.
Oh thanks a lot, I‘m happy that you liked it!
The most informative and useful vid on those filters so far! Great job keep it up👍🏻

Thanks so much for watching to the end and for your comment!
Ive used teh K&F X Nano with 28 layers and now the one with 36 I think and I say its the BEST filter out there and the price is unbeatable! The more expensive filters are simply NOT better AT ALL!!! The K&F is truly an AMAZING Product and ive used it when nobody was talking about these!

The best comparison ever on youtube.. on to the point.. thankyou so much

'300 bucks noise'. I love it! Great review Ronald. I'm going to try the K&F filter.

Good review, and loved the advert...well done
Thank you Rik!
Exactly the information I needed. Thank you.
You‘re welcome! 👍
That commercial was hilarious!
Thanks a lot!
Haha brilliant commercial and very helpful review of the filter.
Thanks man!
You‘ll surely like the filter, have fun with it! One subscriber wrote me that the filter is not good for very long lenses (bigger than 150mm focal length). But for all others it should be fine.
Great review and that commercial is funny.
Thanks Mark! 👍
Very useful video, thanks!
You're welcome! And thanks for your comment!
Thank you for the detailed analysis, including data and calculations. So many lazy reviewers just get sent a free thing from the manufacturer, and only take a quick glance, add useless fluff and padding to their video and call it a review. Your analysis shows that you care about the details and real world results! Subscribed. :)
Thanks a lot for your comment, I‘m happy when you get some value out of my videos!
great ad!and great comparison
Thanks a lot!
Very nice comparison filter .... i think vignetting in K&F more useable than other - btw both filter very good,
Thanks for your comment! I agree, both are totally usable but the price difference is huge
Thank you for the review.
You’re welcome, thanks for your comment!
Very interesting results. I ordered the K&F and got it for $35 here in Manila! (Good commercial!)
Have fun with it! Greetings from Austria!
Thank you for this video, as a hobbyist really cannot justify polar pro.
Will go with K&F. Great commercial!
Thanks a lot for your comment! You won’t be disappointed with the K&F 👍
great review!
Thanks a lot for your comment as well!
Hallo I have 2 K&F Filters and now I am looking for the nisi true color it seems to be the perfect filter
. When I do my upgrade to the Sony A7 SIII. Danke sehr schones video
Best commercial ever.
Thanks man!
Hey Ronald! Excellent video, comparison and commercial!
Quick question. What about sharpness difference / loss compared to no filter. Did you see any difference? Particularly for photography (I use a A7RIII) I'd be highly interested to know.
Thank you!
Hi Stefan, I‘ve noticed no problems with sharpness loss with any pf these filters. Of course I can only tell from a video perspective where I don’t scale images up like crazy (like some photographers might do when they crop their images a lot due to their higher resolution). But even when I zoom in about 100% it looks just the same as without filter.
Great review
Thanks Emmanuel!
The advert is nice 👍🏿
Thanks a lot!
awesome video promotion!
Thanks Jonathan!
Hi, thanks a lot for this video. What about image quality loss ? Did you make some tests with High definition stills photography ?
Hi! No I generally don’t take any photos with my camera, so I have no experience here. But in my videos I couldn’t see any noticeable drop in quality
so good thanks
Could you do a breakdown of that commercial... The shots.... Good work on the script
Thanks! I already thought about doing a breakdown, unfortunately I don’t have „behind the scenes“ material that shows me filming it.
amazing!
Thanks!
Great video and nicely filmed commercial! :) May I ask: Do you think the K&F would work good enough for my Sony E11mm 1.8 lens ??
Thank you very much! And yes, I don't see a reason why it shouldn't work for an 11mm 1.8 lens.
@@RonaldKasper Danke für die schnelle Antwort! :)
I heard Kase is going to sell ND100000, how ahout it? Could you pls also test?
Great,kudos
Thanks a lot!
Gracias por despejar las dudas 👍👍
de nada, gracias por tu comentario!
A word of warning if planning to use the K&F filter with long lenses. I purchased the 82mm K&F Concept ND8-2000 for my Canon R6mkII and 100-500mm lens only to discover it produced double images.
I contacted K&F and received this reply: “We confirmed with our engineer, the filter you ordered is our D-Series ND8-2000, it doesn't have a high-definition variable nd filter so that it might cause blur in the telephoto lens, considering the focal length you have used, we kindly suggest our Nano-X series ND2-400 filter, it's a high definition filter, can avoid blur, thanks.”
Thanks for that information!
Don't use VND for telephoto you'll get blurry image. Buy a set of fixed nd instead.
@@dcyo I can say that my even my Tiffen VND does not appreciably affect the image sharpness with a 300mm/APS-C configuration so I can't agree with your statement about VND and telephoto lenses in general.
However, I can also say that the same image with the K&F D-Series ND8-2000 is entirely unusable - it is heavily blurred even on the viewfinder.
I noticed that my copy of this K&F filter reduces sharpness on my Fuji 16-55mm f2.8 zoom lens. This is only noticeable when I'm zoomed in to 55mm, as that magnifies the filter, but it affects auto-focus performance.
Interesting, I‘d send it back. I,ve heard of problems with very wide lenses but not the opposite
Hi Ronald, thanks for the test and funny commercial :) So do you think all those bad Amazon reviews with visible vignetting and X pattern are because people simply use it wrong and turn it too far behind the optimal range? Almost every K&F variable filter has many high star ratings on Amazon, but in the written reviews section people complain about those X patterns, etc. I can´t believe K&F would produce and sell so many variable NDs with such strong vignetting and X pattern ruining image even in the dotted range. Thanks!
Hi Ondrej, the X-pattern definitely only occurs when you turn it too far. In the normal range you don't have any problem. I've tested several nd filters up to now and never had an issue with that. Greetings, Ronald
I was also wondering about this!
Thank you. I bought this 3-11 k& as a brand new photographer and I’ve been pulling my hair out with all the reviews of blurry images and x patterns. I haven’t had a chance to use mine yet. The clock is ticking to return.
I am considering k&f for my drone instead of PolarPro. I had PolarPro before and it was good just that they offered a less variety for the new drones. PolarPro cost premium
On my K&F-filter I can put the lens cap as it doesn't have a flat surface. It doesn't fit perfectly but it feels way safer than without any protection
The Polarpro cap fits on the K&F as well. But it doesn’t fit as tight as on the polar pro filter.
Hey man thanks for the vid very informative! I just wanted to ask.. what series of k&f concept filter do you recommend? I’ve found b series, k and x online. I have a mirrorless canon r50 (beginner) and my size is 49mm? Thanks dude
K&F gives very little information about what their series names actually mean. At least I haven’t found a good explanation. The k series is meant to be the „base level“ one although I can’t see any optical difference to the results of the x series. They all use high quality japanese glass and if you’re on a budget, I would take the k series.
@@RonaldKasper Awesome dude thanks for clearing that up for me! Will be ordering one soon 😄
Love the advert 😅
Thanks! It was a lot of fun shooting it!
Hi Ronald Creazy comic vid hahahaha so fun and well done you convince me about K&F thank
Hi Bruno, thanks for your comment, I’m happy you liked it 👍
funny i see this video 2 weeks after i purchase a 58 and 77mm ND8-2000 from K&F lol aswell as CPLs
do you use step up/down rings?
Yes, I do when I use the filters on my smaller lens, the Sony 35mm f1.8 which has a filter thread of 55 mm.
Can you tell me more about K&F Concept 43mm Variable Fader ND2-ND400? How many stops of light has?
The stops for each filter can be easily calculated.
1 stop = ND2
2 stops = ND4
3 stops = ND8
4 stops = ND16
So nd 400 would mean about 8 and a half stops.
nice video
Thanks a lot!
I saw kase have the same filters but different model in Germany, are they the same company?
Hi! No, k&f and kase are not the same company
Great Commercial, very funny! K&F Filters Okay? Will give them a try. 😎😎
Thanks a lot! Yes, K&F filters are really okay, I use them a lot.
What lenses did you test the filters with? My K&F filter really displayed strong vigneting with even slightly wide angle lenses...
I tested it within the focal range of 24 to 70 mm. I didn’t see any unusual vignetting there.
Ronald, do you use circular VND on your fx6?
Hi Samuel, no I use the internal nd with my fx6.
hahaha loved the commercial
Thanks 🙏
Thanks for detailed, non pretentious review
You‘re welcome! I’m happy you liked it, thanks for your comment!
4:42 what tool are you using here
Thats a standard RGB waveform you can find in any editor (Davinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro,…)
How is the nd3-1000 from k&f? Comparable?
Sorry, I haven’t tested this one until now.
Great comparison....SUB from Me!!!! Can you please tell me, was there was any loss in sharpness?
Thanks and welcome to the channel! 🎆 no, I didn’t notice any significant loss in sharpness in my videos.
K & F is a professional brand, if anything K & F has been around a lot longer than these "professional" brands. The only difference really is that the cheaper lenses in the K & F filter may be made out of plastic not glass, and therefore smudge easier than more expensive glass filters.
How about k&f ND Filter with cpl.
I don't have one to test it 😞
@@RonaldKasper I think I should buy ND with cpl. Their are so many fun with that filters.
I've got exactly this K&F filter (before watching this video), and my item is unusable. It gives a noticeable darker area in the center even at minimal settings (3 stops), and clearly moves color to yellow, but it can be fixed, darker areas - no
Very strange, I would return it. Must be a production problem. I’m not sponsored in any way by k&f so my review wasn’t faked. My filter is fine, I still use it. So really contact their support or send back the filter.
@@RonaldKasper Your video motivated me to do it :) thanks in any case - very detailed and usefull approach
2:45 K&F now offers lens cap for their ND filters for another 15-20 bucks.
Here in Thailand the K&F's aare dirty cheap, I hope they release more magnetic filters soon.
Yes, magnetic filters are super comfortable to use.
I've used K&F filters for years. Not because of my extensive testing but because I'm poor.
Seems you’re using the right ones. 😉
Hi, I have a the exact nd filter here but when I used it on my Tamron 70-180 F2.8, at over 100mm of focal length at wide open F2.8 the image is a total mess and has double imaging footage for both images and videos. If I remove the filter everything is tact sharp again. This problem only occur when im shooting or filming under sunlight environment, when im in a room its all good. Some no one uses ND filters on telephoto lenses or is this a common scenario that could happen? The only way I can get a slightly sharper image is if I step down to a smaller aperture. Can anyone please help me? 🙏🏻
I have never experienced something like this. Could it be that the filter is simply damaged?
@@RonaldKasper I even tried it on my K&F ND2-400, still the same result. I have no idea whats happening, maybe at or above that focal length, maybe there is something happening with the refraction of light from the 2 polarising glass on the ND filter? Hmm
Even I have read so many similar reviews, so I am extremely confused if I should get variable ND for my Nikkor 24-200 F4-6.3.
Appreciate response from all the experienced folks :)
9 stops ;)
What about wide angles? Even they mention this on their product page on Amazon: ''This variable ND filter is not recommended for use with wide angle and telephoto lenses.''
What is meant here by wide angle? Until 50mm or 35mm? Quoting wikipedia here: ''...a lens of focal length 35 mm or less is considered wide-angle.'' But what do K&F consider a lens wide angle?
I will wait on buying this product until I see a comparison footage with different focal lengths.
I use the filter on my 24-70 Sigma Art lens. The shots where I compared the vignetting were filmed at 24 mm. I hope that helps.
@@RonaldKasper Thank you, very helpful!
Also weiter so, schönes Video
@@RonaldKasper so.
