WRITING/WORK STUFF
Macbook Air. Doesn’t really need my recommendation. amzn.to/3soroc2
iPAPA laptop case: amzn.to/3slflwf
Mind-Reader adjustable/portable laptop desk. I LOVE this thing. Typing with my arms at an angle has drastically reduced elbow/wrist pain. amzn.to/2OYh0tX
Bluelight blocker glasses: amzn.to/2VAG51u
Best writing pens, hands down. I use them every time I revise a book. amzn.to/311nRoP
Acer monitor. I kind of hate the word gamechanger but this really was that kind of purchase. amzn.to/3vH71Kh
Brother laser printer. I won’t lie, this thing is a behemoth. But I’ve had it since 2017 and I think I’ve had maybe one paper jam? It works great, it’s super consistent, A++ for printing manuscripts. amzn.to/3tzIvZE
Alphasmart Neo2. Highly highly recommend. amzn.to/3cStKui
I'm a Skillshare Ambassador! I've been binging their courses on filmmaking and video editing, as well as writing, but there's all kinds of stuff for creative types! Try it out FREE for two week! skillshare.eqcm.net/RyG57R

Canon G7X Mark iii camera. I love the flip up screen (ie, you can see yourself as you film) and the fact that there’s a mic port. amzn.to/3r9BfCb
Savage studio lights. I mostly use these for ‘talking head’ videos. amzn.to/3r7G6Un
Ubeesize 10” ring light. That’s the little guy sitting on my desk. I mostly use it for vlogging. amzn.to/31hqpzD

The negotiation with ourselves when it's time to write is so relatable. 😅 I hope you hear more good news soon!!
Every! Time! LOL (And thank you!)
Rosa sitting in the driver's seat is cracking me up 🤣 Best wishes to everyone on sub right now ✨
It's her favorite spot! :)
Congratulations on the 300k milestone! That's fantastic. 💖
Thank you so much!! :)
Congrats on your submission, Michelle! Well-deserved. Rosa sitting in the driver's seat pensively people-watching is such a MOOD! And that camera tilt was so timely I'm convinced it was slumping in solidarity :) Have a great weekend, Michelle! Hi Rosa :)
Thank you so much!! Hope you have a great weekend too, Avi!
I really, really, really needed to hear this right now. Thank you for always showing up for authors and sharing your journey.
Anytime! :)
300k, that's amazing! You've done better than most could dream of. Cormac McCarthy didn't sell that many books until he was in his sixties, lol.
Ha!! Thanks so much. :) It was definitely a surprise to see that number!
Always a pleasure to watch your videos. I suspect Author’s Equity will only work with a curated group of “It” authors who don’t need much help selling books. But, maybe I’m just jaded. 🤷🏽♀
Nope! The other way they can maintain their business is charging high upfront fees to writers. I'd rather curate my own team of freelancers and be in control of how much I fork over. Indies retain ALL rights--including the right to keep their work in print in perpetuity (transferring copyright to delay it going into the public domain, for example). It's not difficult math, in my opinion. [Edited for spelling because WOW my phone keyboard 😂]
Very possible! I'm curious to see who's on their launch list.
I'm definitely waiting to see what those fees look like! I suppose for those who can afford it, the wide distribution AE could get their book could pay off well. But it would also make it a "wealthy people only need apply" org, which is...not great.
Like so many of us, you have the writerly version of revenge bedtime procrastination (aka revenge insomnia). The struggle is real.
😂
Congratulations on your Otter success. Thank you for your videos. You are an inspiration ❤
Thank you so much! :)
That's so exciting about Otter Half! I know my kids love it.
Aw thank you!!
Thank you for this, Michelle. I so appreciate how real and honest you are.
Thank YOU for watching!! :)
Amazing timing on the camera tilt. I love synchronicity.
It was almost creepy haha
Lol. You are a writer. Potential hopefullness...lol. I am halfway through one full edit on my first novel. Will be submitting some time next week.
I'm going to recommend you do at least two more rounds. Second drafts are beta drafts. A step up from the godawful mess that is the first draft, but still in need of reader feedback and a couple of humble-pie, sloggy workovers.
Congrats on finishing that first novel!!
@@5Gburn I will do more than two rounds. I am primarily a short story writer and have edited for at least 50 hours or more before over a couple of weeks on a 2000 word piece. That is why I am so nervous about editing this novel. When I get to the slow parts and erase repetitive sentences and correct and tidy up the flow I get disheartened and begin to doubt myself.
As I was saying, I have pored over a ten minute read five times to find and correct a flaw or flow after having already spent the hours in a week. That was why I never wanted to write a novel, but whatever.
Looking at the first edit again, I am going to be pulling hairs out trying to correct sections I don't like, or deciding which ones to take out entirely.
This footage is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing it. In Aus it's summer and the weather is sunny. I reckon it's probably doing you a world of good having a break from as much as you can
I haven't been writing lately. Too hot and other stuff going on. Cooler weather better for writing
Great to hear about an editor reading your Middle Grade Mystery. 😊...I'll watch the rest now
Thanks for the update. I thought I was the only one with negotiations with my brain lol. Also, SRIRACHA is the best hot sauce, specially on pastas, try it! 😋😄
I think all writers try to negotiate out of writing lol! And YES I love Sriracha!
I'm halfway through my novel and battling the Horrors to get it finished. I was hoping to have it done by now, but between a cold, bronchitis, and my mental heal tanking, it's been rough. I'm now hoping to get it done April/May and have it cleaned up and out to, as you called in the last video, the Query-Go-Round (XD) May/June.
I'm definitely at the Imposter Syndrome phase of it, tho. Luckily, taking my eyes off of it for a day usually cures me. I'm also writing a fanfic on the side just so I can keep the juices flowing, and so I can write without the pressure of thinking about what agents, editors or The Market wants. And that's going great!
Nice Buc ees cup!
😂
On sub right now-I needed this 😊
After so many rejections, I gave up and self-published. I had one small press offer to publish but the contract was TERRIBLE.
Sounds like the right decision! There’s a lot of bad contracts out there, sadly
That's interesting about the hybrid publisher... I wouldn't know about it at all if it weren't for you. And yeah, makes sense they'd still need submissions to be agented
I have two books I queried extensively. I am brainstorming on a new project. Having had no support from publishers, agents, etc., I’m kind of wondering what I should do at this time.
It's rough out there right now! The best advice I got when I queried my first book and got no bites was "just write the next one." Sometimes the only thing we can do is just keep writing.
I definitely get the guilt of not writing when you think you should. (Spent the last couple months doing that thanks to waiting mode forced on me by various appointments that meant my brain has, so far, refused to focus on things for long)
But I think in your case, when you go over your allotted 30 minutes, just count each extra few minutes/half hour toward those days you can't get the energy (or will power or any of that) to write. That way you can feel less guilty. (It's what I do when I get a good writing stint in. Sadly I used all those up so I'm now owing with this waiting mode hiatus. Lol)
But yeah, as for that other bit you mentioned about how that new company will treat unknown authors, I'm curious of that as well. Like will they let them in, or is it a sneaky way to pick and choose among authors they think are "elite"? Will big names only make the cut because they know they can profit more off guaranteed sales? Makes me wonder.
Anyway, I hope you have an awesome weekend! And good luck with your work. ❤
Walks are essential for writers i find.
Now that I know its agent subs only that makes me feel more optimistic about the whole thing. Crossing fingers for you sub to work out!
I'm trying to learn how to revise a book.
