One of the things I love about games like this is that they're very good at making a fool of you, in a good way. Like, I don't think a lot of people realize that becoming smart lies in letting yourself feel stupid. In delighting in the not knowing, the fumbling around, the demanding for understanding. In using the tools you have to make better tools to understand more. One does not become a master carpenter without hammering his thumb a few times. It's just the volume of work that takes to build true mastery, you're mathematically guaranteed to make a mistake - Hammer your thumb, nail the wrong two boards together, cut a board too short and realize the saw can't make it longer. It's in the nature of skill that one looks the most unskilled, the most foolish, when they're in the act of making real progress in mastery. I think it's hard for people to accept their current inadequacies as a starting point, rather than a personal failing they have to hide. And I love these kinds of games for taking the mask off, letting us sit with those feelings. Bringing us on a pilgrimage through a microcosm of mastery, from the first unsteady steps into the darkness, through to lighting the candle and seeing what was always there. All that to say, I was screaming at you the whole episode. Good work, very engaging content :) I am... At least glad you put together as much as "demons", yet the wild mental block regarding """people""" has yet to resolve itself. I wonder just how long it will last? :lc
