    What would you use this lens for?

    I do like mine Tamron 18-400 with FTZ on Z50, even when many people dislikes those ultrazoom lenses 😊 with its quality I can imagine this one could be good too.

      It proves a huge range to work with and I think it also helps you work for focus and sharpness with technique and settings.

    It's phot youtube, mate. Most of the commenters have an inherent bias you'll never satisfy. You have killer commentary and clearly enjoy your work. Makes your content quality stand out. Tamron for some reason has to fight harder than anyone to get respect and you can see it in the comments sections everywhere. This lens will make a lot of people very happy. Whether the haters like it or not 😂

      Thanks mate. Your comment and insight is an encouraging breath of fresh air. I read some of them and think what am I missing. These lenses are great and cheap. I often get people saying ‘be more critical’ my response is that there is enough criticism in the world and there’s not much to criticise. My experience with lens quality is that it’s usually knit picking pixel peeping where the criticism comes in, which is a dead issue if you learn to shoot well 🤷🏼‍♂️ maybe it’s just the two of us tho lol. Thanks heaps mate.

    Thanks for this video. The lens looks like something I might be really interested in, depending on price of course. Enjoy all your videos, keep up the good work.

    Great review of this lens. The photos at the end during the airshow were impressive.
    I've got the Z mount 150-500 from Tamron. How's the mount on your test lens? About the only complaint I have with the 150-500, the mount allows about a degree of rotation after it's locked onto the body.

      Thanks mate. I use the 150-600 Tamron through a FTZ and it’s really firm. Will keep an eye out on that weakness in future lens reviews tho.

    Sounds good so far , I am very interested, but one thing that I am disappointed about is it looks like it does not come with a tripod collar foot mount and this lens is big enough that it should have one , there is one available from Tamron but it is expensive for what it is.

      Yes I sympathise. I also found however after using it constantly for a 5 hour air show and a 3 hour whale watch, I was never left with the impression that I felt it necessary. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Oooo does this mean I can sell my F mount Tamron 100-400? Wondering how this compares to Nikon’s 28-400..

      Potentially. Not sure the price point it’ll come out to but it’s a fantastic lens.

    The Smart Money is on the Premise that for reliable Image Quality no Zoom should be more than 4x . ie a 70-200 is 3x , a 180-600 is 3x >> yet this 50-400 is 8x ..doesnt apeal to me for that reason .. but the Z mount sorts out lots of previous problems

    • @RalphMayhewPhotography

      I’d not heard that approach before. How does that stack up against the image quality this lens delivered for me? I was really impressed by it.

      Thought the same thing, but the results we’re seeing in this Z mount 50-400 (and even in the E mount) say otherwise. It should not be this sharp with its range, but somehow, Tamron nailed it. This is the first non-native lens I’m seriously considering (in decades).

    Can this lens be adapted to Nikon Z 1.4X and 2.0X Teleconverter on my Z9?

    • @RalphMayhewPhotography
      @RalphMayhewPhotography  15 дней назад +1

      I don’t know but my 150-600 from Tamron couldn’t so I’d be doubtful.

    • @RalphMayhewPhotography
      @RalphMayhewPhotography  15 дней назад

      I doubt it. My 150-600 couldn’t so I wouldn’t be super confident this lens could.

      TC’s will not work with this 50-400

    f6.3 at 180mm .. Midnight down a coalmine >> no thanks now pass me my 180-600

      Different lenses. One is a specialized lens and it's heavy and HUGE, Tamron is a portable walk-around lens with the telephoto option. Nikkor 24-400, a natural competitor, is even worse with f8 kicking in quickly.
      Personally I am getting this lens. I shoot wildlife occasionally and when I do I need a wider perspective as well for landscape so for me it's a perfect walk-around lens. There's no way I will be getting 180-600 for walks.
      Also, these new Tamron lenses are amazing optically, like 28-75mm f2.8 Gen 2. I am sure this one will be good as well.

    So you are suggesting people go out there and shoot events at 6.3?
    That's laughable at best.

    • @RalphMayhewPhotography

      Did you even watch the video??

    • @SingleTrack66
      @SingleTrack66 13 дней назад +2

      Why did you click on a video about a 50-400 lens with an aperture of 6.3, clearly not watch it and then make a comment that’s laughable at best?
      Had you attended the event, no doubt you would have taken 3 bodies, all Z9. A 400 f2.8. 105 macro. 85 f1.2 and a Plena. Post it up on your channel when you do, look forward to it.
