I am 62 years old. when I was14 I studied guitar from a real master. His name was Richard Choi. He was 65 years old and retired at this time. Back in the 1930's he was head music arranger for NBC radio. He met Django and Stephane Grappelle. He played with them and did the music arrangements for them. My teacher did not care for Grapplle. When he talked about Django there was that look of reverence. In 1969, he pulled out an old 78 rpm record of Django's. It blew me away! He was light years ahead of his times. My teacher had all those arrangements with Django. I have an idea where it might be.
I am 79 old years and heartloving of countrymusic and Willie nelson is real admirateur de Django.....me to...I am crazylove for they 2 genius musiciens...oldwoman from Paris with my loveheart (2023/03/21)❤❤❤❤❤❤with my respect 👍😑🙏

Well said, he tapped into the essence of what music is like only a few others ever could. Couldn't read or write, but man did he understand what music is.
Just found Django today and I’m hooked :) I followed guitar lineage from Peter Green to Danny Kirwan and Kirwan said Django was one of his biggest influences, and here I am - HOOKED!
Djangos voice there is the best. Just few musicians enjoying their music and Django 2:12 just says ye man, we know this, just cmon, like do something brave, new and diferent, ur good just do it i know u want it. From 2:15 u can hear Stephane is preparing tension and melody for awesome 2:30 moment and everybody is enjoying it. "YEA!" The best music is when after u finish playing the song, everybody is laughing of joy!
I kept getting this Django Reinhardt song pop up on my U-Tube list. I never listened until I got tired of it popping up. I tapped one finally and listened to them for 30 straight hours. No bullshit. As Sachmo said, man that cat knocked me out.
I first heard M inor swing when I was 15 I'm l amazed by Django's guitar playing and coupled with Stephane Grappelli's violin playing it's just beautiful
the best jazz guiterest that ever lived, the man had 3 fingers burned in a fire, and played this magic music with 2 fingers. so wow. i love this guy. #djangoreinhardt forever.
Django's playing is in itself a master class in comping with chord inversions, substitutions, and maintaining swing feel even through solos. No guitarist's education, regardless of genre played, is complete without a study of Django's music.
As a Romani I know what I'm talking about he broke away from traditional Romani music which is beautiful he loved Jazz so he put a Romani flavor into jazz and the results was one-of-a-kind he helped to make Jazz popular worldwide in his day the royalties of Europe sought after him to entertain his other Royal guests and at their children's weddings and so on musical genius a master and a proud Roma opray Roma that means Roma people stand up be proud be lucky and be blessed
This has to be one of my favorite Django tunes of so many I've come to like. I always describe to people, when I talk about music taste, that the day I first heard Django, (~1990s @35 years young) that, it was the first day of the rest of my life, when it comes to particular music recognition that is well made and tasteful.
@@Yero666 There are a few songs I think, but not NEARLY as many as there should be. I can understand why they did it due to time periods but it wasn't nostalgic like the original was.
@@Yero666 You are absolutely, positively correct on that one! That was my favorite track from the game, but then I really enjoyed that other one too. It was only played in the countryside when you were going down that one single path but I forget what the title of the song was but it was fast, upbeat, and catchy!
I've been told, that if I wanna know guitar ,than to check Django Reinhardt and Boy oh boy this is my first time watching Django and I can not stop listening to his music yet ! It's get better and better as I go along his music 🎶
whenever i listen to this song on LP, suddenly i find myself in 40s in a small cafe in montmartre having red wine, an incomparable man, hastasıyız çok feci
There is nothing like Django Reinhardt, the sound is sui generis (even if it really isn't it sounds that way), you are swept away and driven faster than your heartbeat by it, it's a steam engine, slowing down to take the curves and then powering on down the straights
My kitchen might mutiny on me if I play this track one more time! Can go a 12 hour shift on repeat and love it the whole time! Stephane just rips at about 2 min in!!!!
I love how chain reactions work, long story short I played bioshock and wanted to find out who played the instrumental of Beyond the Sea and now Django is my favorite artist.
All you Django lovers, did you know he lives, in the form of a guitarist called Angelo De Barre, who plays just like this and very inventively, too, and you have to hear him playing with the guy who shreds on button accordian. Fantastic music....
Alexo1954. I just stumbled upon debarred he is up there with luc lemay and srv as well as Joe pass and Django when it comes to influencing my approach to guitar

Damn thats sick. I look at myself now im just a little 16 year old boy. XD Respect good old pal.
What an great story! Please share the arrangements when you find them! :)
What didn't he like about Grappelli? (just curious)
sick indeed! you guys never heard of steve morse? now that guy's playing is even sicker!
Did that guy have 2 fingers to play with tho?
this is certified sickest violin solo in history
Great but nope. Paganini Caprices with Heifetz. This is up there too.
@@lawrencewood289 really weird comparison, one is a written piece of music and one is improvised
the violin solo is a killer here
🔥
Django Reinhardt was a legend and this beautiful song is a classic. Stephane Grappeli and his violin was amazing, too. Two genius playing together!!!
me sorpredio este violin
MY TEACHER KNEW BOTH OF THEM!! HE FELT GRAPELII WAS AN ASSHOLE!! WHEN I MENTIONED DJANGO, HIS EYES TOLD ME PURE GENIUS!!!

What a rhythm, what an exceptional performance by Stephane and Django. Love it throughout almost 50 years.
1937, first time recording ... Almost a century ago and still matching ^^... (86 years actually..)
This has got to be one of the influences on Tom Waits. Not just this guy, but this song. (and on Marc Ribot too, who played with Waits.
Just listened to Django Reinhardt for the first time. His music steals your ears, mind, everything.
I agree 100%!
Happened to me lol
and just with two fingers

Django c’est le plus grand guitariste que le monde a connu, ses improvisations sont parfaites🎸🎵🦔
Grappelli’s solo is electric
He didn't play music, He just plucked it out of the ether. It was there to be discovered. He found it: we hear it!
Well said, he tapped into the essence of what music is like only a few others ever could. Couldn't read or write, but man did he understand what music is.
Django's music is something that just grabs you the first time you here it. You get hooked immediately and need to hear more . . . and right away.

a huge pre-war hit and remains a classic swing tune " a la francaise".
Encore un super solo de violon par le grand Stephane Grapelli . Bravo .
I LOVE THIS SONG! NO MATTER HOW MANY YEARS IT HAS PASSED, THIS SONG STILL SOUNDS AS GOOD AS THE FIRST DAY.

Deux très grands Django et Stéphane !

I salute you Django mon frere. This is the best recording ever produced, of anything. Just listen to the build.
Poor Django only had 2 fingers to work with on his left hand, the other two having been injured. He's still better than any guitar player out there!
Thanks to the old English man in London that gave me a tape of Django .. what an amazing story and talent ..
