  • We visit the Ansā coffee roaster concept store in New York and chill with the staff. They even let Kimoi test out the Sanremo Cafe Racer and more! The idea is to have freshly roasted coffee for your office (5lb hopper it seems) and they claim no resting is needed. They also have a new single-dose roaster they're launching with the same idea but for your home. The experience at the store is awesome!

    Hi everyone ansā here 😊 We appreciate your comments and input as we are a small startup that always strives to become better. We take criticism seriously and learn from it so we are glad to read everything you wrote. We answered some of your questions below so if you are into reading long comments go right ahead:
    Our R&D team is always tweaking our machines and trying to get better and more even roasts, we understand that the roast can shock some coffee lovers because it is such a different concept, but we wanted just to answer some of your concerns:
    Degassing - the roaster does not use any heating to roast the coffee, we do not apply heat to the beans in a traditional way and thus do not lock gas inside the beans, from our testing we have considerably lower Co2 in our coffee beans. That is why you can enjoy the coffee right after you roast it.
    Uneven roast - We do not apply heat on the outside of the coffee, if you were to open one of the beans and look inside of it you would see that it is completely roasted. That being said we are always striving to make the roast more even and with time we know we will get there. If you are interested in learning more about the technology I recommend visiting our website or sending us an email to Info@ansa.coffee.
    Sustainability - By roasting at the point of consumption you are buying green coffee directly from farmers. This takes out roasting and packaging from the supply chain making sure to shorten it as much as possible. This practice is for large-scale roasting and is not intended to replace local roasters but rather large-scale roasting systems. Also, no heat = no smoke.
    We do not have to agree and that is fine, we all love coffee here and that is most important :) We are open to criticism, so feel free to ask us more questions and we will gladly answer them. Also if you are in NYC feel free to come in and we will gladly make you a cup of coffee and sit down for a talk.
    And a shoutout to Brian for coming in, see ya next time 😊

    It's like they attempted to make a sample roaster, realized it couldn't compete with existing sample roasters, and had to pivot to a techbro approach

    I like that about the 5:30 mark theyre very honest about the product (uneven roast) and the problem with straight out of the roaster coffee is the off-gassing coffee needs to taste ideal (aka fresh)

    $8 for a 12oz pourover is INSANE. and $10 if you want the Gesha lmao. Those beans looked so uneven too. Everything about this screams trying to look cool and trendy, but there isnt really any substance to it besides the novelty of going straight from roast to brew. Good luck to them lol

      I think the pricing for those would totally be fair IF the sourcing/roasts were S tier...hoping for their success too cause the concept store was so fun to be at

      @@BrianQuan yep the sourcing could be a big factor. Seems like cool storefront and the customer service looked really good. Looks like there are lots of kinks to iron out product wise tho. Glad you had a nice time!

      LoL... Ya think couple thousand square feet of retail space in Manhattan is about 20k per month just for the rent. not to mention the sheer insanity of just dealing with the city and the trades to try and open a anything at all would imply that your sales would be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars per month every month.... The mind boggles.
      But hey it's low CO2 so the priests of our new religion are very pleased.

      It's a temporary Pop-Up shop. I've visited and I think I was told it would be there until the end of January with a possible extension.

    • @BrianQuan
      @BrianQuan  6 месяцев назад +1

      It's a pop up store so they're using it to prove the concept. Wish we could've seen the smaller roasters in action though.

  • @ristretto3896
    @ristretto3896 6 месяцев назад

    What a concept! With that space and exorbitant rent they might want to bolster their revenue stream with educational coffee classes. As for me, I’ll stick with my SR800 roaster…

  • @eslinleiva3753
    @eslinleiva3753 6 месяцев назад

    That makes no sense. After roasting aren’t you suppose to let the coffee degass for at least 3 days? What is the purpose of roasting 18 grams at a time to then brew right away.

    • @BrianQuan
      @BrianQuan  6 месяцев назад

      Their method of roasting supposedly doesn't have any offgassing so you can brew right after you roast. A lot of roasters like the Kaffelogic already allow you to do this but those have SIGNIFICANTLY more even roasts.
