I saw the Eras Mode being added in NBA2K and I was blown away, imagine something like that in any other sports game where you can re-write history. I'll say this, that had to take a couple years to develop behind the scenes and that alone just shows the difference between 2K & EA. EA makes excuses on why things aren't in the game, while 2K on the same consoles are doing more. MLB The Show has a stadium creator and yet in Madden we get stuck with generic stadiums that we can't even customize. When 2K introduced Relocation into Franchise, they went all out and didn't half ass it like EA did. Simply put, the executives at EA just don't care, I do think the devs care about making a great game but constantly get shot down by the executives and won't allow the devs to do more than just a couple features here and there each year causing EA to lose devs like Ian Cummings and Rex Dickson who wanted Madden to be so much more. The Sim license needs to be opened up........ period.

As someone who loves playing MyNBA using custom rosters and draft classes to start in the past, this has me so excited. NBA2k gets a lot of flack, but the customizability is unmatched and this just takes it to another level. This is proof that it's possible to make money with microtransactions and still put out a legit simulation. Can't wait.

EA knows exactly what they're doing. Adding features requires labor. Labor costs money. Shiny new graphics and marketing is what attracts customers. They have a monopoly on NFL gaming and they're exploiting the $hit out of it.

I started playing Madden in 1992. I've played every year's title since then. This guy is 100% correct. Most people don't realize how bad the game is because they either never played Madden when it was good and/or never played the 2k football series. The only way we will ever get another amazing NFL football game is when the exclusive license is no longer owned by EA. There is a very, very good chance this will never happen.

The NFL is absolutely complicit in the downfall of its licensed video games because it doesn’t care about the product. It cares solely about the *revenue*, which MUT inarguably boosts. MUT is where the money’s at, once you hook people into dropping cash on the game itself.
I would argue that it’s not just the lack of competition, but the dramatically increased reliance and focus on MUT and post-purchase revenue that has walled this once-great franchise into an inescapable corner.

The "new" passing system is also just an updated version of precision passing on Madden 06. The problem with it in 06 was that the user had to manipulate the QBs field of vision with the right stick, then direct the pass. The QB field of vision was also dictated by QB you were using. So, Peyton Manning could basically see the whole field at any time, but Michael Vick only had a sliver of the field in his view which required almost impossibly precise user skill. If your starter was injured... luckily, you could turn off precision passing.

I have never been an online user when it comes to Madden, but this is the direction they are heading in, catering to the 'casual' fan base.
Madden will always suck now, regardless. I hope Nfl 2k comes back eventually.

      @oreojsn92 2 года назад +2

Exactly. In order for EA to release an entirely new Madden with the feature list of 08 and beyond, they'd have to double their workforce. One team working on the basic ass "Madden 24" with an updated roster and 2 tweaks, and another team working on the completely rebuilt "Madden 25", as maintaining yearly releases is part of their contract. But more labor means more money spent, and there's no way EA goes for that. The series has devolved into a vessel for UT. Dude, listen... I had been playing and annually investing my money into this franchise every year since the very first one hit the market back in 1988 back when it was called John Madden Football... and all the way up to 2010 when I finally got fed up for the exact same reasons as you just laid out in this video. I had finally realized that all EA was doing was milking their fan base year after year without giving them anything in return to earn their loyalty. And if that wasn't bad enough...then came the microtransactions. So because of my love for the game of Football, I check in every year to see what (if any) changes EA has made to the franchise...and STILL!, it's the same old song. So at this point, we can give up on thinking that EA is going to do anything... it's time to start blaming the gamers for purchasing the game. This nonsense from EA is not going to stop until they notice that no one is buying their game anymore. All gamers need to realize that they have the power to change things for the Madden franchise by simply not purchasing the game. EA would almost immediately get to work then.

Preach! Such a scathing but unbiased review. So perfectly summed up by "the game has still not surpassed football games from 10-15 years ago". That is the nutshell.
My gut feeling is that the NFL has already planned for either 2K to replace EA with exclusive rights, or, to include both companies. But that 2K has requested/needs a couple of years to build from the ground up a product ready to hit market with high quality. Not just the actual game development, but all the pre-production required....building and tuning resources and assets, charter of goals, game policies, a strategy of features, implementation, artistic design, etc. Before you can sit down and code a game, you have to have a strategy, a concept, a vision, a design, presentations and resource management systems, etc.

I don't think that *any* one company should have a monopoly over the NFL video game license- there are many different ways to do a football game, and while hyper-realism is great, by limiting the NFL license to just one franchise you cut out the possibility for alternative takes to feature actual players and teams. Like, when was the last time there was a NBA Jam-style cartoon action version of an NFL football game? It has to have been literal decades at this point, and that just fuckin' SUCKS, man.

I know it’s not possible but I would love to see one year just one where game developers were told you are not allowed to have micro transactions present in your next AAA game or indie game. You can still do dlc that would expand on the game but no little buy skins or players packs. And if a game releases with micro transactions it is immediately cut and removed it is not allowed to be sold and if they try to proceed with selling it they have to pay a massive fine like I mean half their companies worth kinda fine. I know it’ll never happen but sometimes I wish it would

I’d love to see Madden listen to the player community for once and bring in former developers from games with better gameplay (like Backbreaker and 2k5). That way, I know they’re at least making the ATTEMPT at improving gameplay. When that happens, then I’ll spend my money on another Madden game.
I don’t know what’s so hard about this, I really don’t. I’m not going to pay $50-$70 for a game that has all sorts of bells and whistles along with cool graphics if the meat and potatoes of gameplay isn’t in order. I’m paying that money for both, not just one “new feature” that they’re implementing this year.
In the end, I stopped caring a long time ago about this issue. Watching hilariously bad Madden glitches and player animations, along with MUT players wasting hundreds of dollars trying to get cards that are *RESPECTABLE AT BEST* has been very entertaining in itself.

They bought the exclusive license because they couldn't compete with what others were doing, and now that there's no competition, there's no need to even try. I sometimes catch the E-sports madden players and I see why the gameplay is so terrible. It's geared to be arcade-y for that crew and to get people to spend money on their ultimate team.
I'm really excited about NCAA coming back out next year, but they will surely butcher that too.

This is an excellent review. And from someone who doesn’t make a living off of giving bad madden reviews. Felt like the opposite and more heartfelt because of it. I have bought madden every single year, sometimes twice as I shifted consoles. I only play franchise so particularly frustrating for me and you nailed the frustration. How hard is it to keep in good portions from past years and improve things from there? Feels like they take out great stuff by going to a new simulator and then take years to bring things back. The height of laziness is not changing cities or uniforms to choose from when moving a franchise. How much fun could users have to help in the process? Make it a contest. Get designs from users. But this would create work they don’t seem to be willing to invest in. I can only hope the NFL opens up the market. Done buying this game. Opens up a few hours for me to do something worthwhile.

Just want to say, me and my dad grew up on Madden, honestly the only good memory we had together lol. I had so much fun with them on ps2, PS3, etc. And I ended up stopping at Madden 15. Every game started to feel like a fucking repeat. And, when Madden 19 was on the verge of releasing, I wanted to finally give it one more shot to see if things have FINALLY changed or gotten better. I pre-ordered the game the night before Madden 19s release, and I stayed awake, until 2am when it finally came out. I was hype, and ready to play. I spent $60 on it. And I'm going to be completely honest. No fucking joke, the entirety of Madden 19, I stopped playing instantly after the release. And I didn't even log back on either, not even to check out the new updates. I simply gave up lol and I'm glad I did. I had more fun with Madden 15 than I did with Madden 19 and it just felt like absolute dog shit. Nothing but fucking glitches and the crowd, atmosphere, everything was the worst I've ever heard in a damn sports VideoGame.
Madden 23: I legit almost bought it an hour ago.... After coming from Madden 19 and dropping it completely to never returning, I saw some really nice clips on tik tok and people saying that the game was sooooo good and the best Madden game to ever release. Even the idiots in the comments of the tik tok videos were hyping it up. And I legit almost bought it. Until I came here, to find out the truth. You've saved me from blasting and wasting another $70 on a shitty product. I was going to buy in hopes for improvements, and to see what's new. Money is tight for me rn, so I legit can't spend on any game I see, I have to do my research before buying a video game. But, deep down, I am really glad someone is finally speaking the truth. If I had clicked on any other RUclips review video, I probably would have bought this game, and I would have been pissed and upset with myself for wasting my funds. “The fresh feeling where’s off fast” is exactly what describes Madden. You may feel a little excited and into it and soon enough it goes away. Madden 22 was the first Madden I got in 10 years and I got sucked into the “fresh feeling.” I was actually having some fun! However, it quickly went away and with football season back I could barely get through a game. It’s so repetitive and arcade it’s not only disappointing it makes you angry! Angry that this is the same BS we get every year. Like you said Softdrink, until there’s a competitor Madden will only be a “step in the right direction” instead of leaps and bounds. Terribly underperforming given ALL the resources resulting in barely mediocre at best. In any other business they’d be out of business but the NFL doesn’t care. It just makes money and that’s good enough. We need more prominent players to speak out or some sort of lawsuit to get the NFLs attention to not extend their exclusive license. We need change…something. We the people.

There's just something about Madden that feels stale and boring. I always feel like you can't control your players which is the most ironic thing given that it's a sports game and the gameplay should be the ultimate thing. The players run like they have cement blocks for feet and the overall physical feel of the game is rigid and unresponsive. The players look like they're walking out of their breaks instead of exploding on the ball or through the hole. You can't make aggressive cuts on offense because your player will do an exaggerated breakdown that's disproportionately slower than needed, and when he finally does cut (provided he doesn't get tackled), it always feels awkward and not where you were trying to go. I always feel like I have trouble "aiming" my players because of the response lag. And on defense, it's even worse. Whenever I try to aggressively break on a play as a linebacker, he never explodes athletically off his spot toward the ball; he does this really rounded, slow acceleration, slower than any linebacker I've ever seen play in the NFL and is hard to aim with on top of that. The game feels like it's fighting against you as the player. Its philosophy of realism is putting limits on players' responsiveness instead of making it about positive things like momentum, collisions, etc., which would make the game challenging anyway if done right, and the game just overall feels really lame to play. It seems like their energy was put into more the pop-culture NFL glamor, like pre-game animations, stupid cut scenes, etc., but used less data for actual player movement and good football play. And it's the same thing every year. I still resort to 2009 Backbreaker, a 13-year-old video game on PS3, because the one sole thing it does better than Madden, the gameplay feel, transcends its cheesiness, its goofy player appearances, its dated graphics and its primitive overall presentation compared to Madden.

This has been going on for decades. If you're a gamechanger (or whatever they call their gaming influencers now) and you speak very candidly about the game's flaws, you're excluded from participating the following year. That's why these guys say good things about the game - they feel obligated to because they received freebies and preferential treatment.
We need voices like yours to be raw and not care about the blind loyalty by most fans of the game. 2K sports did a great job at chipping away at EA and forcing them to put out a better product. The bottom line is the ultimate equalizer. The NFL is a business.
I'm waiting for an NFL star to basically break rank and demand they be removed unless they're compensated. If someone with clout like Tom Brady decides he doesn't want to be in Madden because he's going to have his own game - you can bet a few other players will jump ship as well. But this is a pipe dream - currently we're left with "dealing with it" or modding the game if we're skilled enough.
