Hey bike companies; bring back the simple, lightweight, durable, affordable bike like this!!!! This is the type of bike all us old guys and gals started out on....

That was my first street legal, mode of transportation in 1976. Exact same color and love that sound! It was a great ride cause you could ride it on and off road. It took me around to several girl friends houses and I am sure the parents loved seeing me roll up on that beast. Remember riding it to High School, freezing my fingers off during the Virginia winter. Lots of memories, thanks for posting this up...

    This was my first bike.
More than once I drove 35 miles in the middle of Winter to visit a girlfriend at college.
Love can make you do stupid things.

My first bike was this model. I was 15 years old perhaps 120 lbs. soaking wet. A damn fine cornering and jumping machine, hell it didn't even know I was on it..lol.

Oh wow, in 1977 I bought a used DT360 from Japan imported by an Army Captain at Fort Hood, Texas. I reconditioned it with the sorriest tools you ever seen but had the paint changed from factory brown to factory green with new decals.
I rode it full time till Jan/81 when I was hit by a car and lost part of my leg. Ten years later I wish I hadn't sold it slightly damaged for $50. I still miss that bike. Thanks for the upload.

Had a 1974 DT 360 torque induction in 1977 first bike I owned and was bar none the best bike for trail and street riding that Yamaha ever produced. Gave $ 400.00 for it in 1977 sure wish I could buy one for that price now. Good investment for sure!

These are bad ass. I have a Yamaha xt 500 and a TT500. I'm looking for a DT400. A GT80 was my first real motorycle. I think the Cafe Racer craze is on the way out and these vintage enduros will be hot real soon.

These big bore 2 strokes were great off road. On road.....eh. Many were rode a year or so and junked or stripped for dirt use. Honda 4 strokes were ridden tens of thousands of miles. More expensive but that was what the serious on/off riders bought. I loved the DTs looks sound but only would have bought a SL/XL.

  • @ramishrambarran3998

The early editions of the enduro machines by Yamaha, had the designation AT1..125cc, CT1....175cc, DT1.....250cc, RT1......360cc. In later years they called all models DT. Hence DT100, DT125, DT175, DT250, DT400.
The bike Ken is riding most likely is the 2nd gen. RT2.
    Trinidad & Tobago.
    West Indies.

I had one of these .When I was 16 years old. I ran the dog shit out of it in north Idaho. It never broke down . I gave to my dad when I joined the army at 16. Top speed was 83 mph on the freeway. And it would climb any thing. The fork brace on it is not stock.

    • @pipsqueak631
      @pipsqueak631 5 лет назад +1

No kidding it would climb anything. I was going to climb a huge hill of dirt but checked it out first. It turned out that the backside had been scooped out. Lol.

the 1974's all had automatic compression releases tied to kick starter, you could drop your leg weight on it and they'd fire off.

I had the 72 Silver RT2 360 in south Africa in 1972 and when we weren't surfing we were bundu bashing. picked up quite a few women with this bike. and it never let me down. well built machines. we used to crry our boards on the side or under our bums on the seat but the cops were problem even back then. I suspect parts are now a struggle and expensive now especially in the UK they are non existant in england

makes me want to dig mine out and see if I can break my other leg hitting a car again :|
main thing I hated, you smell like a dirty 2-stroke after riding and everyone would curl their noses :)
