How do we actually bring about positive changes in how we use ourselves? We'll certainly have to change something about our thought patterns---how we're thinking. But how do you that? In this video, we explore how and why verbal directions are an effective rational tool for consciously controlling and guiding your movements. I offer lessons in the Initial Alexander Technique, which are conducted one-on-one with a teacher over Zoom. They are designed to help you gain conscious control over how you move your body. Most people have no idea what they’re doing with their body, and as they misuse their body, they end up with discomfort, pain, and other issues that they may not even realize are caused by what they’re doing to themselves. But how do you figure out what you’re doing wrong? And how do you change what you're doing and overcome lifelong habits? In an Initial Alexander Technique lesson, you will record yourself through Zoom, so you will be able to see and understand what you are doing when you stand, sit, walk, and perform other simple gestures. With the assistance of your teacher, you will come to understand how you are misusing the mechanisms of your body, and you will gain the ability to choose to use yourself in a more sensible way. You can learn how to use your body without pain. You can break free from long held habits. All you need is a system that works. "The greatest gifts F.M. has given us are 1) the discovery that speech instructions based on the understanding of the coordinated use of the anatomical structure are essential to the construction and improvement of the use of the guiding and controlling centre-the executive functions-and 2) that the perfect training ground for these higher cognitive functions is the sphere of physical acts and more particularly the sphere of the guidance and control of the postural mechanism." i'm really appreciating this great spate of recent videos! Must be a lot of work! But it's so valuable to me as I try to understand and DO this method.

Oh yeah, I hope it's clear that the system I'm advocating for is based largely on F.M. Alexander's work. I would say the style of directions I'm showing in these videos is more representative of Jeando Masoero's work, but of course his system is based on Alexander's work primarily.
I wonder why the arms and hands are stretched forward in the picture on the right. Is this your posture when typing on a computer keyboard? Or is it the basic posture when standing? Or are you saying that I should walk around with my hands outstretched like a jiangshi? 5:00
That image shows the person on the right using a procedure where they put a yardstick under their armpit. The hand shape is just a representation of the fact that they're holding the stick.

Great video! Perhaps giving credit to F. M. Alexander is in order here, since giving orders (directions) is at the heart of his technique.
