10 years ago I started watching vagabond, Delos, etc. ive long since stopped watching other peoples travels (cept you guys occ. ; ). I now have my own beautiful boat and have no desire to you tube. After saying all that, I don't think anyone has influenced me to want to see the world and see the world by sailboat. Thas something inside. I want to escape the "look at me im special, MTV, social program". and simply live. P.S. I have truly enjoyed watching people building boats and working through life to get to where they want to be channels on you tube. CHEERS to you two, the intellect, humor and down to earth commentary. Jamie, id like to see some more pippin/locking and the mango again.
If you have your own sailboat then you absolutely don't need to be watching sailing RUclips channels. You're too busy out there making your own adventures! It's been a while since I did any locking 😅
I'm very old and cruised for many years and I watch a lot of sailing channels and I haven't seen what you describe. If different customs in SE Asia include government shakedown by immigration or customs, incredibly complicated clearance procedures or exhorbitant vessel services these should be publicized.
I want to do the same and do want to do the You Tube thing.. but for me it will be for my family to watch and as a kind of family photo album... if other people want to watch too... then cool... but if no one ever watches except my adult kids and a few friends then so be it. I too stopped watching most sailing channels... I think Delos though, despite being one of the biggest, have stayed true... not like Vagabond and others who are now businesses.
MTV's "The Real World" was ground zero for this "look at me" landscape we are in today. I'm more into building channels like Acorn to Arabella, Salt & Tar (and the FTB refit for that matter) to the point where once it's done I move on. That's why the documentary style is important. I really don't care if I ever see another time-lapse go pro on a shopping cart grocery haul.
I was living in Thailand when the King died in 2016. I was blown away by both farang immigrants and tourists walking around shirtless, drunk, and being loud even on the day the King died. This behavior is discouraged on a normal day but when the whole country is in mourning and/or showing respect for their late king it's completely unacceptable. You really do not have to spend more than 10 minutes reading about Thailand to know that you are not shirtless, and they loved the previous king and his daughter so it was clearly not ignorance, it was arrogance.
We were there at the same time and wore black ribbons to show we were mourning with the country. 'Farang' immigrants' really should know better, especially as disrespecting the monarchy is an imprisonable offence! Tourists are a whole other thing! I agree that it doesn't take much to find out such simple information, but some people are not interested and happily go around in their own bubble of arrogance (look at the tourists who stripped off at the top of Mt Kinabalu and were sent to prison). RUclipsrs have an obligation to be culturally aware and sensitive. Thanks for your comment. Liz
We live in Thailand and were very much involved in Thai life when the King died. We did not see any of this shirtless, drunken disrespect, but then I guess we don’t hang out in Pattaya or other such places where dickheads go to party.
It totally depends on which channel you follow. From my point of view I, as an ex brit, feel nothing but pride in my race when I see the likes of sailing Florence, Teulu tribe and Barry the old sea dog leaving their footprint around the world. They appear to be polite, considerate, and extremely respectful to the countries they visit as well as producing high quality weekly / fortnightly productions.
Great video, and it is definitely a pet peeve of mine that should be called out. I just hate seeing misinformation disseminated out there to people who are considering this lifestyle. Having met quite a few of these RUclipsrs in person over the years it is clear quickly who the genuine people are and those who just have their hand out looking for you to fund their lifestyle. Funny thing is the RUclipsr’s themselves will tell you exactly who the goofballs are since it’s a small community. Love your channel and thanks for being one of the genuine sailing couples out there helping people!
I must agree with your entire podcast. I have recently unsubscribed to at least 6 channels due to many of the reasons you talked about. Including the excess swearing, too much "all about me/us" and not enough about the details of their travels as you two do. I watch primarily to learn, and secondarily to be entertained so when the departure into me first and I'm mad at the world attitudes crop up I turn it off. Keep up the good work both with your photography, and all your content is both informative and often inspiring.
Detailing the places, be it through photography or video, is our main drive, but we try to be detailed in the boat work too. That said, we have an episode coming up that'll be quite different to anything we've done previously that we're quite excited about. Expect more photography!
Same! I've unsubscribed from ALL the whiney channels, the deck-fluff channels, and the clickbait channels. I stick with the ones that express gratitude (especially Nahoa, Florence, and the Wynns).
As an American, I find the idea that other people in other countries might do anything differently than we do quite frightening. Also, the concept of me not being the center of the universe is absurd. I mean the spherical edge of the universe is equidistant from me no matter where I am. 😄😄 You guys are the best.
I’ve read that no matter where you are, you are always equidistant from all sides of the Ice wall also. Speaking of which, just wondering if anyone has had any luck getting their cruising paid for by the Flat Earthers. Seems like it could be a good way to get them to buy and outfit your ride.
Agree. I am a Malaysian and a sailor, to be honest I found one of RR's videos very upsetting to watch. Not cross checking information and just going by word of mouth which can end up like Chinese whispers. The people in the comments section loved their rant and would probably end up believing every word. I felt so insulted. The sailing community is so small and close knit in Malaysia - everyone knows everyone here.
RUclipsrs are influencers, whether we like it or not, and for viewers who have never travelled to these countries RUclips video content will be their only experience of these locations. What compounds the situation is when, in the eyes of the viewer, the RUclipsrs themselves become bigger and more important than the country they are visiting. It's one thing to have a bad day, we all have them, but it's questionable when you don't consider the implications of said content.
N is known for his foul-mouthed rants and being po'ed about something consistently. I know the episode you are speaking of. Watching him lose his 💩 over trying to find a place to dock his dinghy. 🤦♂️Maybe they will find the high priced Med more to their likings. 💸Hopefully, the rudder destroying whales gets the memo.
@@claverton RR is short for Ruby Rose. However, I do mostly like their content even though N gets frustrated. Perhaps they should consider editing some of that out considering that many people including those who can impact ones travel, are watching.
You are my 'goto' channel. I started watching you before I purchased my boat. Looking at channels as you described is just off-putting. Good call on having a conversation about it.
I really dig the still photo segues and appreciate that fact that you don't insert the film camera shutter and motor drive sound effect between photos.
About time someone said this! I have unfollowed a good number of "well known" and "BIG" vloggers just because they are not only vain, selfish and fulla rubbish! Keep it real and drop your egos to reality of sailing!! Thanks Jamie & Liz for this!
When half your episode is with no hint of irony ranting about the ice machine not working on your brand new million plus boat you have well and truly lost the plot... a recent episode of one hinted at above.
@larrygordge2688 This is a story we are seeing a lot in the comments. Rather than you quitting, I wish the channels would shape up and realise their responsibility to the places they visit. All the best, Liz 🙏
@@followtheboat Hi Liz, yes I appreciate it was about the contaminated water. BUT he still started with rant which was repeated about the ice machine. And my issue was more that he has changed so much that he couldn’t see the image this generated. A bit like the locals in SE Asia being offended by things… I was totally bemused by this guy just with no irony banging on about his ice machine. It was emblematic. And they were a good sailing channel. I am an experienced dingy racer but have little big boat experience and like to see details on actual sailing… you get that with Florence and used to get it with Ruby Rose. I am bored with people buying new catamarans… it’s their life but I will vote with my choice of what I watch. Would love to see someone buy a brand new Kraken… I bet they don’t have dirty water. Love your channel and this is a can of worms someone had to open. Cheers Julian :)
Most YT sailing channels are not sailors. They are grifters who found out that posting bikini pics on a boat gives them more views then just posting bikini pictures. They are always in the most amazing place on the planet or they had a horrible near death experience which is always a dramatization, because they aren't sailors, or simply just a straight up lie for the views. Making $100k - 500k+ a year, and still making videos about "sailing on a budget" and begging for money in every single video while being in the top 10 - 15% richest people in the world. It disgusts me.
There is a lot of nonsense talked about near death experiences. Not all, but most, are regular occurrences for sailors. There's no harm in showing a bad storm or high seas to viewers, but it doesn't need to be sensationalised, I totally agree. Liz
You are 100% correct. There’s boats that are only used as video props. Behind the scenes there’s a paid captain and crew. The “sailors” are only actors. Just like Hollywood, don’t believe everything you see on social media or TV. Very prevalent in the Van Life, RV, Bushcraft and Camping channels.
I missed this one and it just popped up. You are correct we all must be respectful of one another and not push personal opinions in people's "faces". During the pandemic I started watching & enjoy how boats are repaired and maintained. Also, watching young people rebuilding an older home or boat. Even how to cross an ocean or walk in a new town and point out the history also points of interest. But channels who click bait their significant others is discusting, as is showing who can compete best of tattoos as Caribbean pirates. Additionally, those who pedal CCP products claiming they are made in Japan or USA without researching the donner manufacturer. Or even those who definitely can't afford new shiny gear and don't credit the donner. But most channels the authors are over 25 and know better but are too arrogant to care and over time viewers will realize those channels don't respect their viewers and will drop them.
Bingo, your card is full. You hit the target dead center. 🎯 I would never invite these individuals to my home. I understand why other countries don't want them. Their entitlement is suffocating. Jamie, I dearly love your photography. Congratulations on the rudder repair and getting back in the water.
I used to follow a couple more channels now it's down you you guys and one other couple who make really good mini documentaries about where they visit while balancing their own adventures. Your "rant" was well spoken and accurate!
Thanks, Christine. We really want to move towards the docu style of episodes. They're a bit more challenging and time-intensive. We hope to have one out in a couple of weeks on one of our favourite cruising destinations.
Just came back from Java and Bali. Overland trip not sailing, but loved it. Lots of things to see and do, courteous and friendly people, exotic, good food, service culture, value for money etc. Sure the population density is high, the traffic slow and there is a waste problem, but I have no idea why anyone would dislike it and, if they did, why they would be vocal about it. Moreover, it's fun learning a few words in the local language and adjusting your behaviour slightly to reflect cultural norms. When you do, the obvious appreciation of the locals is priceless. Can't wait to go back.
I was in England during the Queen’s passing. I had the decency to look up etiquette for the procedure and people. I would never intentionally disrespect anyone or country especially in a situation as that. Behavior of other Americans who were there actually embarrassed me. Glad y’all touched on that subject.
@@followtheboat I understand, y’all were respectful. As an American I singled out Americans. A lot of Americans have a horrible problem with self entitlement, especially in places other than America. When I say American I mean The USA.
At 27:00, mix oxalic acid with wallpaper paste and make your own rust stain remover on the hull of a steel yacht. Or you can buy a proprietary commodity canned Y-10.
I just got back from Thailand- my first visit to an asian country. It's really not that hard to dress properly for the occasion and be as polite as the locals are. Glad you guys are back in the water!
I am selective as to which channels I view. These are ones that are respectful of their host countries. Which decent human would visit and not show their hosts respect? That is just good manners and "manners maketh the man".
I don’t think it’s just about Asia, I think if you’re an influencer then you should conduct yourself with a certain decorum. Plus you’re projecting a brand that sponsors and manufacturers could be put off by. Your channel is one of the few we watch now we are actually cruising. I love the fact it’s about travel and photography and about what it takes to cruise in Asia.
Thank you for the comment. In fact it's not just influencers, it's anyone and everyone. David makes a good point, just below your comment. Fair winds to you 🏝️
Unfortunately, the issues that you are speaking of don't just pertain to "social influencers" visiting foreign ports by yacht. There has been a changing trend away from civility the world over. Not raising voices, not swearing and not gesticulating have always been the hallmarks of good diplomacy in any culture that I'm aware of, even in the West. Equally, so has consideration for other's privacy and other's sensitivities. And it doesn't hurt to focus on positives. Why do people fail to understand this? I sent my son out into the big wide world with basic instructions: Never explain and never complain and when you hear the words "make yourself welcome", it's an instruction, not an invitation. Thanks for the content, again.
@@followtheboat Thanks for your reply. It is frustrating that those who can afford a yacht and the luxury of travelling to remote locations don't leave enough change in their pockets to be able to afford manners, especially at the price they are.
I agree. I have stopped to follow a couple of sailing channels because of click-baiting. Usually exaggerating anything quite normal in high sea sailing, like ripping a sail or the like.
Well done looks like a good place to get work done while staying in some nice local accomodation, which I think will please the captain ! Being the crew I usually work and stay on the boat too, but this looks like the way to go double up work and holiday. Well done! again , I’ve often thought that some of these RUclipsrs are saying and doing fake controversial things just to get numbers up. But with no thought for the next cruiser to go through or how to help the local economy. Cheers Sinbad off “ Zen “ Australia
That spot in particular is a popular place for yachties on the hard. But let's not forget Medana Bay has it's own accommodation too, so you can stay within the confines of the yard. We tend to stay on the boat but have been known to take accommodation if the boat is a tip or, in Liz's case, there's a sweltering heat wave and she simply can't stay cool! Being out the water in the tropical can be trying.
Nail on the head , when in Rome do as the Roman’s do . I have work overseas and so many locations in Australia and always have got with the locals better than the expats and learn so much off the locals .I to have unsubscribed to several RUclips sailing channels just getting so over the princesses, keep up the good work guys
Nice to hear from you, Shaun. There's much to be learned from the locals. We attempt to speak a few words of their language but are blessed that many speak good English, even in some of the more remote places. Besides, there's always Google Translate. Hope you're well
Interestingly I've unsubscribed from some channels that featured beautiful babes in bikinis and not much else. I certainly appreciate a nicely turned ankle but there's so much more to see and appreciate in the locations they say they are visiting. As one who has lived and worked throughout Asia I have often cringed at the behaviour of raucous westerners. Your blog/video was timely and appreciated I hope that certain RUclipsrs sit up and take notice. Still in awe of Jamie's photography!
Well said..and worth saying! I was recently sailing in another part of the Indian Ocean and this applies there as well. When i sail anywhere I always remember that I am their guest.
Well spoken, I would love to hear more of youre anker system. I am fitting my old contest 38 for extended travels. I m not sure what to do with my windlas and chain. 12/24v, seperate batterys , 8 or 10 mm chain that sort of stuff. Love youre channel, All the best machiel Sv Anna Nerherlands
Go for 10mm rather than 8mm. You can connect them to your house batteries no problem as you'll likely be running your engine and charging them when weighing anchor.
(Would love to see another how to anchor video). Your comment on not showing locals etc is really so so so true. I watch a travel You Tuber called Harold Baldr... he is amazing... he got to know a family half way up a mountain in the Himalayas... he will then tell you how to find them etc and he does it market stalls in Vietnam and all over the world. A lot of sailing channels could learn from watching travel channels like his. I aim to start sailing and have a You Tube channel as soon as I stop looking after my mother (I am not young LOL). I aim to be a travel You Tuber who sails... not a sailing channel. I hope to address a lot of what you are saying in my own little way. I would support James on Tritea and Matt and Amy on Sailing Florence... they are both good at being respectful to local people and getting to know them. Some of my biggest OMG moments from entitled You Tube sailors... at the worst moments of covid sitting on their catamaran in the South Pacific bitching about how hard they had it... and then being American genuinely expecting the Australians to change their quarantine rules because they were at sea... he actually said with no irony... 'but we're Americans'. The other is one mentioned a few times on here... brand new boat in a beautiful part of SE Asia and all you can do is bitch about a broken ice machine. I thought I was watching satire.
Yes, I know the channel you are talking about. It caused a big sensation in these parts and did no service to cruisers. Thanks for the anchor video vote and for staying till the end! Liz 🙏😄
@@followtheboat I have had an odd sense of discomfort recently with RR and in a way I am glad it wasn’t just me. He has at times come over as very entitled with a: ‘these johnny foreigners need organizing’ attitude… with no understanding the world doesn’t bend to you. It has really annoyed me.
I worked in Banyuwangi which is in East Java just across from where you are now. Every Sunday we would visit the hotel and hot springs and also the marine reserve at the island at the entrance to the bay. Disappointing amount of plastic in the water at the reserve but the water was still clear. The hot springs were great. I worked at North Sea Boats building some seriously impressive boats. The Banyuwangi Yacht Club is worth a visit.
This was a great video. Whether people like it or not international travel/ cruising does make you an unofficial ambassador. If you don’t like or don’t want to respect the culture and rules of a country, you can pass it by or also just stay home. There is nothing wrong with just getting an RV and exploring your own country if seeing what it’s like becoming part of another’s culture isn’t what you want. Foreign travel should change you and your perspective. If it doesn’t, you aren’t really traveling. IMHO. I have personally experienced backlash due to the bad behavior of my fellow countrymen who traveled to a place before me.
Totally agree! I’ve been sailing over 50 years mostly solo since childhood growing up on Sicily before setting sail on my own and I took the time to learn about the culture of the countries I wanted to sail to or visit while sailing because that’s what I was taught to do. Europeans/English are so much more well versed in educating themselves and being proper/polite/respectful etc! I only subscribe to a small group of sailing channels. One is @WindHippie this young lady is quite remarkable and adventurous and educated!! She reminds me of me as a young woman taking off from Palermo years and years and years ago on my little O’Day 23 heading out in the Med only to find out I like bigger boats 😂🤣😂 for ocean crossings! You guys have a great channel! Thanks so much for keeping it real! Fair We new and Fins Up!
It's really nerve wracking to film in public places! Let alone asking others to be a part of it when our channel is so small. It feels like we're imposter youtubers lol, and we don't want to bother people. I'm hesitant to even mention having a channel to other cruisers for fear of judgement (until we know for sure they won't think less of us). I'm almost wondering why I'm so drawn to do it then, if filming publicly is so damn hard? Well, I honestly, passionately LOVE editing and one day when we're old, we'll get to relive it. And even if we had no subscribers, just making the videos for ourselves is also helping me (Lisa) with public speaking/posture/etc, something I've never thought about until being in the videos. Thanks for making this, its a very interesting discussion and we will try to remember that 'not filming' is not always respectful, and for those with a big following it would likely in fact be offensive. Maybe one day we'll get there :)
There are places where it's much easier to film people...like SE Asia! Most love to be filmed here, and Jamie usually has swarms of children and friendly faces around him. If you haven't already watched his RPS talk (Royal Photographic Society) he gives some insights into how he approaches the filming of strangers. Well done for making this video, I'd like to add a few points. Firstly, I don't consider a number of 'sailing' RUclipsrs as yachtsmen or women. By that I don't mean they lack experience, but the RUclips medium and sailing are just a means to an end, so I don't think they represent sailors as a breed. Secondly, travelling the world and getting to stay in other people's countries is a privalege, and should be treated a such, as Brits who have suffered brexit know only too well. It is each travellers responsibility to make themselves aware of local customs and expectations, it's part of what travelling is about. It literally broadens the mind. Also, I think it's fairly obvious that some channels simply follow the money - if a certain behaviour is rewarded, they repeat the behaviour regardless of what it says about them. Perhaps the best way to moderate behaviour is for visas to be withheld.
Good points, Philip. We stopped chasing the RUclips algorithm (ie the money) some time ago now. We only put out what WE want to. Some of our favourite episodes, normally the travel-related stuff, get the fewest views... and that no longer bothers us. We've gone back to our original motivations for creating content: to keep our family and friends updated of our progress, and we do this by trying to be as authentic as possible.
@@followtheboat Out of interest, was it easy to 'see' what made the ratings improve? It wouldn't surprise me if, over time, the more genuine channels win out.
Drama, bad news and nudity usually improve ratings, but I'm with you that quality usually wins eventually. Also audiences are getting savvier and can see through the BS. 😀 Liz
Thanks for putting a smile on my face 😊 My sentiments exactly. The self-centeredness and self importance of some RUclipsrs is unbelievably embarrassing 😅 I have only just realised I am now only subscribed to you two loafers 😀 Thanks for some sanity and seeing Hendro doing his thing brings back beautiful memories 😊 Paul SV Revel
Have to agree. One, the need to get off of what I call top dead center (them selves). Another thing I find laughable is the who remote thing, you look in the background and see trails running of in all directions. I’m 70 and started traveling at 8. My parents went to lengths to teach us about the nonsense of US exceptionalism. LOL knew ex-pats from all over the world… I was very fortunate. ✌️
You are fortunate. Some people only travel vicariously through RUclips channels, and they are influenced by the content they watch, which is why integrity is important. Thank you for commenting 👍
Very sensical comments, as usual. Experiences vary and lots of factors contribute to it. Attitude from the ones reporting as well. Not generalizing comments and always being polite/compassionate goes a long way. I know we are living in very polarizing times but hopefully most will act as decent and respectful human beings. Locals, everywhere, tend to react very positively to that.
Glad that you have the rudder done and back in the water; the stills are awesome as always; as for as those others I don't know what to say but for people like me who are not sailors I would have NO clue if what they are saying is true or not
Oh you're just up the road, will talk to Mick & Danni about that anchorage before I chuff off. Boat is coming along well looks a million bucks just sorting out with sign writer about artwork on hull etc will flick through some photos when done.
@@followtheboat Still Darwin, topside is being finished / polished by the painter, just discussing and marking waterline for painting then a few minor items then splash service the water maker when in the water will be doing some mods to the anchor locker and electrics. Any beautification work will be done up in Malaysia, along with new rigging etc.
Interesting people have identified RR. I was amazed that on a recent video where at the start they ask for comments to hear N say he’d just blocked some people from future comments because he didn’t like what they said. If you ask for comments take the good with the bad I’d assume. Always enjoy the videos, thanks for the consistent high quality and interesting topics.
I won't comment on specifics, partly because my gripe is more of a general moan that covers a multitude of offenders. And, to be honest, this isn't just a sailing channel problem. Look at Logan Paul in Japan (he says, commenting on specifics). Paul is a shining example of everything that is wrong with the 'influencer' culture on RUclips, a fact proved again with his more recent crypto scam. My point being that a doofus like Paul can still have massive influence over their viewers, irrespective of their behaviour or, in Paul's case, peddling misinformation and lies. If sailors follow suit by showing a similar lack of integrity or decorum in their videos, it could give all sailors a bad name, especially within some of the countries we sail that are culturally different to our own.
Great video. All the things that you have mentioned should really be common sense things if one has some decency, morals, courtesy, etc, etc. This kind of behavior has sadly be come the norm in today's western society. People just don't flat care about anything but themselves anymore. I totally agree with everything you are speaking of. Love your channel and thanks for all that you have taught me about the world an it's people.
Completely agree, you go to another country to experience another culture. If you want it to be like at home - stay at home! Also as a child I was told if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything. You don't have to be rude about something just because it's not to your taste.
I stopped watching Delos when they were using a stil to make liquor when in Muslim countries that don't allow drinking. I thought, "Can't you respect the country you're visiting enough to obey the local customs and laws?" If you can't go a few months without a drink, stay someplace that drinking is promoted.
@paulwyand6204 We still support Delos (have done for years) because Brian is such a good sailor (and Kazza, of course) and they put us on to Patreon. Having a still on board in a Muslim country is probably better than falling down drunk on land! To be serious, most countries with a predominantly Muslim population are absolutely cool about alcohol, many even drink it themselves. The only 100% dry country we've sailed in is the Maldives where you cannot buy alcohol and certainly cannot take it ashore, but they get round that by declaring posh resort islands as 'deserted' because no locals live there so alcohol can be served. Alcohol really isn't an issue and does not offend people here, unless you get so drunk you start behaving badly. The only time we are careful about consuming anything is during Ramadan, when 99.9% of Muslims are fasting and don't need to see drunks swigging back the beer. Thanks for your comment. Liz 🙏
@@nautichunt84 perhaps step 2 is to pressure-wash after applying it. I agree...putting acid in paste/glue seems problematic. Perhaps it causes some form of reaction in the paste/glue that causes it to not to stick well. Anyway, I'll never have a steel hulled boat, so this isn't for me to solve :)
I think we also have to understand the general culture of those who would put themselves on camera. I feel it is generally going to be a self-aggrandizing endeavor so what we are seeing is their natural self-serving experiences. Those types don't care about assisting the people or places they go to. They want their adventure, their experience, without care of the impact. It is the American way TBH and unfortunately that disease has spread. So what you are saying is well and good but we are talking about personality dis-orders here not people who actually care about giving back and assisting the greater good of our sailing and cruising community. Good on ya for speaking out about it.
RUclips is pretty split in this respect. There's a lot of great channel out there that serve up content that's both entertaining and educational. When they have a passion for their hobby/interest, it really shows.
Well said on ur thoughts and are smack on and have stopped following alot of popular channels due to this. It seems to me that some of the more popular channels whom once showed us great content whether being sunny days and great beaches to the nasty weather and times they were having gave you a real idea of what is was like sailing. Seems the popular channels since the adition of the new Catamerans and tri-marans they have now sailing seem to only want to show you what they want IE: sunny days and beaches.RR, VB, WYN just to name a couple just annoy me now as you get no real content of any education unless u want AG1........... keep up the good works guys....
I don't understand how anyone would wan't to just blow thru south east asia, I want to sail around the world I can't wait to get there someday and I plan on spending a lot of time there. My wife is from the Phillipines, once I learned i couldn't win a argument and what good would it do me ultimatly in the long run. I also learned from her and her friends that they have huge hearts and care a lot about who ever they meet. I can't wait to visit all of south east asia. I will have a smile on my face. Why get upset we are on a boat living are dreams.
When you have the level of interaction that you do with your wife, you truly understand how accommodating and welcoming SE Asians can be. Our experience is the same.
Boy did I enjoy playing along being the devils advocate on much of that rant. I would prefer always hearing the 3 sides to a story. And names should ALWAYS be dropped for source purposes 🤔
Everyone has their own way of covering things, We are used to being polite and friendly as British cultures around the world are different there seems to be very little coverage on RUclips of sailing in Asia , some of it I have seen is RUclipsrs being harassed by locals over anchoring and over night stays.
Hi Paul. I guess you're new to our channel because we have been documenting life afloat in this region for over a decade. In the 400-odd videos, few have anything to do with the points you mention and, unfortunately, your comment highlights our point: that you are being painted a certain picture that does not bear out the reality. Yes, there is the occasional bureaucratic issue, which happens anywhere, but on the whole the people in this region couldn't be more welcoming.
@@followtheboat only just stumbled across your Channel , I have benn enjoying The Sailing Brothers, Windhippie , and quite a few more none have yet to venture into Asia yet but some esp Wind hippie have shown care and courteousness towards locals by contacting them before anchoring or going ashore. Thanks for replying
Hey y'all! Sorry I have been away. Just got back from Hospital. Been a while since I responded. Love y'all and your message is timely. Bless ya both 🇺🇸💐❤️
A little something about that rust away stuff, DON'T! store it on the boat especially in like the lazaret it's highly corrosive and it even outgases through the plastic container. It will eat through your sails electric, connections, etc. Trust me I found out the hard way... Now for the RUclipsrs, if like me being a cruiser/passagemaker 50+ years have found most are just "RUclipsrs". Oh by the way my 3 year refit is almost done I should splash in about a week!!! See you out there.
Stopped watching a few channels because they started expecting others to finance their dream (begging for money). I have no issue with the Patreon concept but don't agree with setting up a "go fun me" type of account to purchase a new vessel because your POS sailboat really is a POS.
Now I agree you in some points about youtube s channels ,1 in particular uses females for clicks and views ,yes I know women & bikinis are always gonna be involved with sailboats ,but this channel is heavily influenced by it ,you should always mention the location of your boat ,as a common curiosity, (if you can't say anything nice ,don't say anything at all ) not everyplace is gonna be your cup of tea ?
I can think of few places that haven't been out cup of tea, to be honest. I think that's because we're easily entertained. Anything new or different is an adventure, not a hindrance.
Hmm, 'the breeze here always feels like plastic smoke' - I wonder what the locals would think of this statement coming from the ambassador. This video seemed rather snobbish, if I may say so myself.
The plastic problem is something we continue to highlight throughout our videos. We discuss this with local people and highlight initiatives that tackle the problem.
Jamie: again, I love the photos, especially when used as an interlude between segments. Your love of oblique lighting and shadows reminds me of, of course, Edward Hopper. Less than ten years ago I saw my first sailing vlog (Sailing Doodles) and i thought "What a wonderful Idea for a vlog!" until I realized what a lousy schmuck he is/was. Unsubscribed after six or seven episodes. Luckily, I found others, among them yours. Now I watch you and The Cruising Kiwis -- sailing and visiting with some boat maintenance thrown in for good measure. And, an infrequent sailing vlogger, the prose-rich Christian Williams on the details and joy of running a boat. You are the OGs of sailing! (N.b.: that is street slang for original gangster, a compliment. First time I heard it in context I thought it meant Old Guard which is the same thing I guess...) So, OGs, keep talking about the world and keep showing us the world. Best regards.
We see a few boats racing through. They come across the Pacific, kiss the Sunda Islands and then they're off into the Indian Ocean. I guess if circumnavigation is your main drive, in a limited time frame, then this is to be expected.
Great discussion on sailing channel “influence” which will hopefully prompt some navel gazing 🤞🏻. Nice to see you back in the water 💦 ⛵️ For the anchoring update, we’d be interested in whether you use an anchor alarm App ie; AnchorPro, or if not, how do you monitor it as in the days before the App (when the idea of sailing and living on a boat had never occurred to us 😂). Cheers Deb & Pete
Off the beaten the track in Indonesia, loosing your temper with the locals can end very badly. In many Asian cultures the first blow in a fight is someone shouting. Indonesians believe Madu (honey) has healing properties
I'm with them on the healing capabilities of honey, in fact I think it's recognised to have anti-bacterial properties? Yes, shouting and losing your temper everywhere here is a no-no. 🙏 Liz
@@followtheboat no worries is the only reply one should give when frustrated. sing ken ken (in Bali) or tidak apa apa honey does have anti-bacterial properties. In addition the plant the bees get the nectar from also has an effect. Manuka from NZ is one example . The Indonesians have their own set of plants and often blend the honey from different sources. Have you tried any of Jamu. The tumeric rust colored concoctions that range from health drinks to cures.
You make a lot of fair points and I understand what you are trying to convey. I'll swim against some of your drift, if I may, but you won't like it. I, for one, want You Tubers' to tell it how they see it; how they feel it; how they experience it. I want them to make value judgements and I definitely don't want to see 'best not say that as they don't like it' broadcasting - do that, and everything becomes too vanilla (like BBC newscasts in the UK). So, it is NOT always about 'the facts' Lizzie, as it is practically impossible, in may cases, to establish them. You deal with what you experience, using your (culturally bound, for sure) judgments. As long as you are not being culturally imperialistic, and it is clear what your cultural and financial hinterland is, I don't see a lot of massive issues on what some peoplemare saying, nor in the waynthey are saying it. I have found many of the points about SE Asia, from the four or five different Channels I dip into and out of, useful in that it tells me (amongst other things, of course) that I'd never want to sail my boat there, nor adventure there, not least because of the extreme Muslim cultures and paradigms that exist in a few too many place; the appalling treatment of animals; and the frankly the less than great sailing conditions in terms of sea conditions, weather and wind. On top of that, the practices at sea in terms of 'fishing gear' are dangerous to other water users (making night sailing very risky in too many geographic locations) and disrespectful to sea life - and whether this is about justifying it because of 'making a living' vs cruising is irrelevant; they are moral things, of inherent right vs wrong. The chronic per capita plastic and other littering is also a big turn off as we see the indiginous population self-destroying their environment, and the 'authorities' doing bugger all about it - its nearly as bad as the UK! Did I mention the OTT 'authorities' attitudes to visitors, while ignoring so many other basic priorities & wrongs that should be addressed in their lives. Sure there are many brilliant things about being where you and others are; you offset these and come to an overall different net value. I see that, and understand that. No problem. Just don't hide stuff (for want of "facts"). Don't be afraid of emotion nor opinion. Yes, don't be click bait drama queens/kings, for sure, but don't become so vanilla (or scared of upsetting or disagreeing with the 'locals', acknowledging their values may be different) so as to bring little impact to the sense of place, people, attitudes, culture and the (often) amazing physical environment. VANILLAISM is as bad as the 'faux' drama bait clickers.
I wonder how you have formed your opinion of SE Asia without sailing here? A lot of what you say is partially true, but the balance is wrong. You've taken all the worst aspects and decided that's what the whole region is like. It would be very easy to do the same thing about the US, Europe or Australia. There's nothing wrong with telling it how you see it, but that doesn't mean RUclips channels should be rude or uninformed. Get the facts right first, then explain without upsetting people. Emotion is good, but unfettered and misdirected anger doesn't help anyone. Cultural sensitivity in RUclips channels can help foster sensitivity and knowledge in their viewers. Thanks for commenting. Liz
"not least because of the extreme Muslim cultures and paradigms that exist in a few too many place; the appalling treatment of animals; and the frankly the less than great sailing conditions in terms of sea conditions, weather and wind" I hear ya, those Muslim really know how to Eff up a sea state.
I think you need to name specifics; names, incidents. Otherwise, this comes across as preachy. You have some good points, but it’s lost with your tone.
90% of sailing chanels are bull chit. They just make content about what ignorant people whants to see😂 Your always Nice, i see you guys for a long time a go.👍
Imagine for a moment you were discussing how people wrote the great adventure novels of a bygone era. I think that you are missing a teachable moment, for yourself, and for these mysterious officials who are grumbling in the background. When a RUclipsr posts something that is disingenuous or untrue, there is a handy comments section where the discussion can be had. For example, in a video that I made, I mistakenly said that a certain lift bridge, was no longer in service. Someone saw this and politely corrected my mistake in the comments. Lesson learned, and visible to anyone following the thread. Perhaps you can convince some of these behind the scenes folks willing to ban a particular Cruiser that they'll catch more flies with honey ;) tiny, stingless, bee honey.
Liz and Jamie didn't miss the point, which obviously grazed your head and bounced off. No need to name and shame the officials. It is their country. RUclipsrs and others must recognize they are visitors. They must conform to the social etiquette of the country they are visiting, not the other way around.
The comments section is a great way of setting the record straight. God knows how many times we've been corrected in the past, and we always appreciate it. It's probably a big ask for authorities to start commenting on RUclips channels though. It'd be politically sensitive and I don't think they have the inclination to get involved in online debates. They are there in person when we need them.
You guys are spot on!!! I'm planning my trip from Cape of good Hope to Cape Horne and I was just debating if Tristan Dacugna was a remote destination or not...
I guess that's "Tristan da Cunha", but maybe it's spelt differently in different countries! 🤓 What ever way it's spelt, it goes down on my list as remote! Cheers, Liz 🙏
Going back to my days traveling for work quite a lot, I was always sensitive to the issues you describe and never wanting to be "that" ugly American in a foreign country. My wife and I love the sailing channels who emphasize culture. Thank you for being among that small handful!
Hmm.. that sucks... I dont watch much of the YT sailing stuff anymore.. Not happy to hear that folks could be making things problematic for us yachties who spend a lot of time in SEA...... So If you've got nothing good to say.................. Anyways..drop in for a softdrink if you guys stop at straits quay
I hope this isn't the beginning of the end of small ports. I could see the authority's shutdown sooner or later because of the disrespect alone. At some point the money won't be worth it anymore.
One or two have certainly become more 'difficult' over the years, and I do wonder if it's because they're just fed up with dealing with irate yachties 🤷
Well done guys, I can't stand people who go into a country and can't fit in to their culture, it is rude and embarrassing, thanks for saying what everyone is thinking 🙏
We've been surprised and delighted by the huge amount of support this episode has generated (we thought we were the only ones)! Thanks for the comment. Liz
I'm a disabled American who once traveled the world SCUBA diving....Now that I'm unable to do I watch many of the RUclips sailing channels and for the life of me have no idea which channels you are speaking about..Perhaps Plukky from Australia who's building an Aluminum Cat ,or maybe La Vagabond who just took possession of a new Tri hull Rapido, these are the only ones I'm aware of being in Asia lately...I wish you had been more specific...
There are many in this area, but we don't want to name names. I don't know Plukky and we support Delos, so we're not directly referring to either of those channels. Even so, the message is the same around the world: say whatever you like, but please check your facts and say it in a way that is not rude or misleading. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Liz 🙏
Far too many seem to just whine and whine..some..dont show anything at all to do with sailing.. just themselves anchored up.. some. just seem to motor everywhere, still not showing any sailing..a large percentage have lost their heads up their back ends..I watch very few now.. when a person is on a 1.5 mill boat.. whining about hardships of boat life. then ask for a handout.. to fund them for more whining episodes. I bail out.
Nice work guys my cruising now is mainly Malaysia and the Philippines a couple of very big YT channels recently cruised through here and as the old saying goes best not meet your heroes. Unsubscribed both. Ps I thought Liz won the vote last post 😁
I truly understand the message you are sharing. In the western world of the United States [Not the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA] there is a document that has the peoples rights which is the Bill of Rights and in that document under the first amendment freedom of speech is protected. Speech can be offensive but it is a freedom some are not willing to curve because it offends others, it’s a freedom
I agree that freedom of speech should be protected, absolutely. I just wish some people would take a bit more care and time about what they say and how they say it. There's never any need to be rude. Thanks for your comment. Liz
Etiquette, common decency, and respect seem to be missing. It may be a generational thing- the vanity easily shared and manufactured on social media, instantly deiminated, quickly rewarded with rattention. The boobs and butt chanels out there- grown adults looking smarmy. You're saying what a lot of people are thinking.
It's the self-absorption which I find sad. It was always there (I remember 25 years ago being at the Rodin museum and watching tourists climbing onto 'The Thinker' to take pics of themselves) but now it seems completely normal. As for manners and common sense, have parents and schools stopped teaching these things, or was it ever thus? Thanks for commenting. Liz 🙏
I'm bonkers about honey, love it. May have to go to Brazil! So far, on our travels, my top honey is the pine honey produced in the hills of southern Turkey. O.M.G. Liz 🐝
Between the cultural differences, the bad rep that Europeans/Yanks/Ozzies have and having to behave on camera it is probably best if we stay in the West 😮 It saves us travelling all that distance as well 😄😄 As for naming people or marinas, we have done that in the past only to find that people sometimes do not like being referred to. Marinas and harbours we usually show because our viewers are often local(ish) and may want to travel to where we are showing in the video. But this is why we almost never have other people on camera when they are on the boat. In the past, we have had to take videos down even after people have _consented_ to be in the vid and then do not like how they look or sound on camera. In short, it is not worth the hassle. So nowadays we (and ONE friend) are the only people who appear on the channel.
There's no legal obligation to take down a video because someone doesn't like the way they are portrayed, but I get your drift. Over here it is much easier to photograph and talk to people on camera, they love it! I think we westerners are much more concerned with our privacy. Cheers, guys! Liz 🙏
@@followtheboat - you are correct that there is no legal obligation, but when it is someone you see on a regular basis then the law does not really matter. It was just a few times but we changed our approach to eliminate the problem.
In the end, you are visiting someone elses country. Of course they will do things differently. Either respect their right to order things how they wish in their own country, or stay in your own country.
Completely agree. I've never understood how people can go to a country that isn't their own and act in such an arrogant way. It's no wonder "westerners" have a bad rap. :( I think my pet peeve are the channels that use clickbait titles like, "We were in danger!" or "It was so scary!" only for it to be something totally benign. And don't get me started on them using their children to draw in views...🙄🤣
It's gob-smacking how many people go to places without doing the homework before they get there. Offending people living very different cultural lives to our own is easy to avoid. And if not sure, just be polite, smile and dress smartly. Yes, sensationalism is my peeve too... 👍 Liz
THANK YOU - great video - its getting old how many RUclipsrs "we barely survived" rains in Asia.. with catastrophic clickbait thumbnails - like really Delos - try a thumbnail without looking like you are in fear of dying again this week. wish more people had just plain respect for the locals and their areas / homes. *no need for half naked westerns in countries that frown on this. its their country after all and we were not forced to go there.
Dramatic thumbnails are such a thing across RUclips that I wonder if channels are putting them up in an ironic way now. 😄😄😄 Yes, cultural sensitivity is never wrong. Just be respectful. Thanks for commenting. Liz
I thoroughly agree with your accessment of people who produce content for consumption by an audience of varying moral values while using language unsuitable even for the dregs of the world‼️ I believe that violence and vulgarity are tools of the ignorant and immoral lower cast of society❗️ They use such methods of communication because they are ignorant and uneducated❗️😔 I love your content and the respectful way you take into consideration the local population as well as your viewers❗️Keep up the good work‼️👍😇
We're not naming names, just using that as a hook to ask channels to take a step back before being rude and to get their facts right (about everything from sailing to the destinations they cover). Thanks, Liz 🙏
I agree some channels tell you the history of the place some are like how far the pants can go up the back side. That is putting it nicely. So very nice rant down low not explosive. much boom, HAHAHA.
Yes, horses for courses. But every style of presentation has a responsibility to get the facts right! Misinformation helps no-one. Thanks for the comment! Liz
A bit less Mrs Grundy, maybe? This was exhaustingly British, in the way people find the British most tedious. Yeah, obey local laws, don't start conflicts, try to get your facts straight. That's pretty easy to say.
I gave up Sailing La Vagabonde after their Greta Thunburg butt kiss video.
@@andyjamesable Sailing Brothers is worth it too if you like Florence and Barry… they are great guys.
I was asked why my wife and I aren't in our travel photos, answer is that we know what we look like, we're interested in where we are.
Well said 💯
So true. I think it’s the modern day version of proof of place. More concerned with others knowing they were there than actually being there.
Selling a fake lifestyle has always been a bugbear of mine. Thank you for the comment!
You guys are the best.
😅😅😅 love it!
very funny :)
Oh my word, I've just seen this comment. Worthy of SNL! Liz 😀🙏
I’ve read that no matter where you are, you are always equidistant from all sides of the Ice wall also.
Speaking of which, just wondering if anyone has had any luck getting their cruising paid for by the Flat Earthers. Seems like it could be a good way to get them to buy and outfit your ride.
😂🤣😂 FINALLY! Someone has a 1,000% accurate account of americans and are not afraid to share it for fear of upsetting some snowflakes 😂🤣😂💙
I support you 100 per cent. I am English... I stopped watching RR. Their attitude is just so bizarre. I can't watch them, he is so entitled and rude.
Who's RR?
@@claverton RR is short for Ruby Rose. However, I do mostly like their content even though N gets frustrated. Perhaps they should consider editing some of that out considering that many people including those who can impact ones travel, are watching.
You are my 'goto' channel. I started watching you before I purchased my boat. Looking at channels as you described is just off-putting. Good call on having a conversation about it.
Thank you, Helen 🙏
I really dig the still photo segues and appreciate that fact that you don't insert the film camera shutter and motor drive sound effect between photos.
Haha, the camera sounds! Thank you for the encouraging comment. 🙏 Liz
@julianbatcheler9970 Yes, I had a similar thought when I watched, but to be fair I think it was more about the contaminated water?
Well put thank you. I understand how much thought has gone in this video and we truly appreciate the effort.
It had to be said, but we've got your back 😉
Bingo, your card is full.
You hit the target dead center. 🎯 I would never invite these individuals to my home. I understand why other countries don't want them. Their entitlement is suffocating.
Jamie, I dearly love your photography. Congratulations on the rudder repair and getting back in the water.
Thank you. We have lots more photography coming up in a special episode, all about one of our favourite anchorages 😎
@@followtheboat sounds wonderful!
It really is a great area to explore, by land or by sea 👍
I was in England during the Queen’s passing. I had the decency to look up etiquette for the procedure and people. I would never intentionally disrespect anyone or country especially in a situation as that. Behavior of other Americans who were there actually embarrassed me. Glad y’all touched on that subject.
We're not looking to single out any one particular country, it's more of a general observation. God knows us Brits can have a terrible rep abroad!
@@followtheboat
I understand, y’all were respectful.
Good tips for the steelies out there. If you have any paste left over, decorate your saloon 😉
Just so. 🙏 Liz
I am retired and haved lived in Bali for 16 years ,You are 100% corrrect !😊
Thanks. We're just about to leave Bali. Loved it!
Yes, good points well made, David 👍
Showing the exciting stuff is great, but dressing it up to create false drama is disappointing.

Just clipped to the bow roller. We opted not to use an extension tube to make it easier to set up.

Thanks for the feedback, Max. We should have some more photographs lined up in a couple of weeks 😎

Right now, as I write this, I can almost see Banyuwangi! We're in the nature reserve on West Bali, just opposite 😎

Foreign travel can't help but change your perspective. I agree, if it doesn't then there's something afoot.
99.99% are rubbish. I only follow 6 channels! Thanks for sharing.
There's a lot of rubbish on RUclips and social media generally, we all have to teach the algorithm what we like! Groan. 😫🙄 Thanks for your comment.
I still follow that boat 😊
Hey, nice to hear from you! Hope you are keeping well 👍👍
Well done for making this video, I'd like to add a few points.

Out of interest, was it easy to 'see' what made the ratings improve? It wouldn't surprise me if, over time, the more genuine channels win out.
Drama, bad news and nudity usually improve ratings, but I'm with you that quality usually wins eventually. Also audiences are getting savvier and can see through the BS. 😀 Liz

Cheers, Paul. Hendro is one of those special people yachties can completely depend on. Cheeky sense of humour too! Hope you're doing well.
Sadly today it is all to common to be considered Un-American if you breath even the slightest bit of constructive criticism .
When in Rome....
Our experience exactly. As Liz said, repeating what our local friend said, a smile goes a long way.
@@followtheboat 🙂 I really enjoy your videos. Keep them coming.
Glad that you have the rudder done and back in the water; the stills are awesome as always; as for as those others I don't know what to say but for people like me who are not sailors I would have NO clue if what they are saying is true or not
Yeah, the rudder is a huge relief! It would have taken ten times longer without Hendro, that's for sure.
Oh you're just up the road, will talk to Mick & Danni about that anchorage before I chuff off. Boat is coming along well looks a million bucks just sorting out with sign writer about artwork on hull etc will flick through some photos when done.

It's a pleasure and we appreciate the feedback. 'Entitlement' is a plague.
Completely agree, you go to another country to experience another culture. If you want it to be like at home - stay at home!
Also as a child I was told if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything. You don't have to be rude about something just because it's not to your taste.
And yachties have the advantage of always returning to their home at the end of each day!
I stopped watching Delos when they were using a stil to make liquor when in Muslim countries that don't allow drinking. I thought, "Can't you respect the country you're visiting enough to obey the local customs and laws?" If you can't go a few months without a drink, stay someplace that drinking is promoted.
I take it you do not understand Alcoholism
@@33eyeman actually I do, and do not support it by watching it.
@paulwyand6204
We still support Delos (have done for years) because Brian is such a good sailor (and Kazza, of course) and they put us on to Patreon.
Liz 🙏
Funny thing is some of them expect you to respect their customs and beliefs yet they donot respect the ways of the host countries they migrate to.
Wow, you must spend an awful lot of your time being offended by those around you

@@gotamd I was a fibre glass boat repairer/builder for years, I won't buy a fibreglass hull 🤣

Nice work, Robert! I bet you're excited. Fortunately, I gave the rust remover to the lads once we were done with it.
Stopped watching a few channels because they started expecting others to finance their dream (begging for money). I have no issue with the Patreon concept but don't agree with setting up a "go fun me" type of account to purchase a new vessel because your POS sailboat really is a POS.
Each to their own, but I tend to agree... We will be tackling the whole question of funding in next week's (30th June) episode. Liz

Thanks, Mario. Hope you guys are well 👍
Imagine for a moment you were discussing how people wrote the great adventure novels of a bygone era.

Oooh, lovely Straits Quay! Of course! We'll be stopping for a bit just before at Pangkor.
I use a toilet bowl cleaner with the active ingredient HYDROCHLORIC ACID as a stain remover.
Yes, we've used that too, I think it's the same principle. But you have to remove it almost immediately! Cheers, Liz
Liz 🙏
@@followtheboat "Plukky" a nick name for "Sailing into Freedom's" captain.
I bail out.
That's fair enough. We continue to chug along in our 35 year old lady 😎
Come on Guys, nothing bad about bikinis on boats - apart from the fact I don't have any on my boat.
Did we mention bikinis?! I think I'd remember that 😅
Nice work guys my cruising now is mainly Malaysia and the Philippines a couple of very big YT channels recently cruised through here and as the old saying goes best not meet your heroes. Unsubscribed both. Ps I thought Liz won the vote last post 😁
I can't say anyone meeting us would be any better. I'm grumpy and don't drink, so I'm not much fun either 😅
@@followtheboat i have met a number of cruisers that have met you, no bad reviews so far. (Well not Particularly bad) 😉🍻
😅😅
Ok , l can't help it , so if there WAS drink , you wouldn't be grumpy , you WOULD have FUN , which means there's HOPE😅😂🎉
peace
😎
I truly understand the message you are sharing.
In the western world of the United States [Not the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA] there is a document that has the peoples rights which is the Bill of Rights and in that document under the first amendment freedom of speech is protected.
Speech can be offensive but it is a freedom some are not willing to curve because it offends others, it’s a freedom
And in Norway almost everyone cross country skis.
I agree that freedom of speech should be protected, absolutely. I just wish some people would take a bit more care and time about what they say and how they say it. There's never any need to be rude. Thanks for your comment. Liz
My experience with epoxy in those types of applications it should have been thicken with an adhesive filler also.
Hi. We cover this in the previous episode in which we detail the use of West System 410 Microlight.
Liz 🙏
The Brazillians have several species of honey producing none stinging bees. 🐝
I'm bonkers about honey, love it. May have to go to Brazil! So far, on our travels, my top honey is the pine honey produced in the hills of southern Turkey. O.M.G. Liz 🐝
Between the cultural differences, the bad rep that Europeans/Yanks/Ozzies have and having to behave on camera it is probably best if we stay in the West 😮 It saves us travelling all that distance as well 😄😄
As for naming people or marinas, we have done that in the past only to find that people sometimes do not like being referred to.
It comes down to exactly this. Ultimately, we are guests.
Completely agree. I've never understood how people can go to a country that isn't their own and act in such an arrogant way. It's no wonder "westerners" have a bad rap. :(
I think my pet peeve are the channels that use clickbait titles like, "We were in danger!" or "It was so scary!" only for it to be something totally benign.
👍 Liz
Don't worry. RUclips knuckleheads don't influence me in the least.
Unfortunately I'm a sucker for RUclips camera gear reviews but I try not to let those 'influencers' part with my money 😅
Yes, cultural sensitivity is never wrong. Just be respectful.
Thanks for commenting. Liz
For the most part, you're not at home now, respect the locals.
I thoroughly agree with your accessment of people who produce content for consumption by an audience of varying moral values while using language unsuitable even for the dregs of the world‼️ I believe that violence and vulgarity are tools of the ignorant and immoral lower cast of society❗️ They use such methods of communication because they are ignorant and uneducated❗️😔 I love your content and the respectful way you take into consideration the local population as well as your viewers❗️Keep up the good work‼️👍😇
We try to be as respectful as we can, John, not only in our content but when speaking too locals too. It doesn't cost anything.
Who was badmouthing?
We're not naming names, just using that as a hook to ask channels to take a step back before being rude and to get their facts right (about everything from sailing to the destinations they cover). Thanks, Liz 🙏
I agree some channels tell you the history of the place some are like how far the pants can go up the back side. That is putting it nicely. So very nice rant down low not explosive. much boom, HAHAHA.
Yes, horses for courses. But every style of presentation has a responsibility to get the facts right! Misinformation helps no-one. Thanks for the comment! Liz
Enough of the common sense already, any more of this I'll. I'll. I'll be offended😂 , seriously though well said👍
Cheers, Graham 👍
Hydrochloric acid.....
No, that would remove the paint I think!
@@followtheboatSold as muratic acid or HCI but the base chemical is diluted hydrochloric acid..
If the shoe fits…
Not always... Liz
@@followtheboat I give you two credit for trying. Thx
A bit less Mrs Grundy, maybe? This was exhaustingly British, in the way people find the British most tedious. Yeah, obey local laws, don't start conflicts, try to get your facts straight. That's pretty easy to say.
Well done for getting to the end. Liz
