Yes and no. Though it's true that you don't HAVE to punch hard in order to be effective in its combat, it is highly incentivised through critical hits. If you put more force into your punches, you'll get a higher combo AND deal more damage. It's like how you get a higher score per cut in beat saber if you put more effort into your swings.
@@Anthony-qv8yu On Behemoth, I haven't tried it yet, gotta get it on the PSVR2 but I'm excited to see what the Saints and Sinners team did! For swordsman, I actually have a more personal connection to that game, I was following its development since I think December of 2021, basically 2 months after it's release on the original PSVR, when it had pre-bought animations, the original boss sword models, sword detection that didn't work, no dismemberment, no Pirates, no Hel, no Claus, and no armor. Let me tell you, seeing that game grow and develop over time, even being a part of it myself (I joined their discord and became an active member, and then became a beta tester, you can see my name on the leaderboard of the training grounds promotional videos on SinnStudio/Swordsman's RUclips channel) was nothing short of magical. I didn't just see a game get better, I saw a struggling game studio crawl their way out of the ashes with one of the most successful PSVR games ever and grow and learn. The game itself is great, with an in depth damage system and customizable difficulty that awards more skilled players, tons of weapons, relatively challenging enemies (that can still be cheesed but they make Blade & Sorcery's goons look like morons), and a satisfying progression system. It suffers from the same baked in animation issues as B&S, but at a lesser scale. Honestly, I'd have to make an entire video on the entirety of SinnStudio's catalogue if I wanted to get all my thoughts down, and that's something I might just do.
I think Warpfrog are planning on doing just that eventually. Blade and Sorcery is fun but is definitely held back by mistakes in early development that they've learned from by now
I appreciate the suggestion, but those videos probably won't be made only because those two game mechanics have been pretty much nailed in the VR space already. You'd be hard pressed to find a popular VR game with bad shooting mechanics or a racing game with bad driving that isn't just shovelware. However I am still open to talking about what I consider to be the best VR shooters, but their shooting mechanics would not be the main reason why.
@@ketchup9804 I would rope battle talent into the "Similar games to B&S" category, meaning that it shares the same problems. (Also I haven't played that game NEARLY enough to give my two cents on it, I wouldn't do it justice.)
I personally haven't played it yet, but from what I've seen it may suffer from the same problems as blade & sorcery, but to a far lesser extent because the arms of the enemies seem to move independently from the rest of their body, making their movements much more fluid.. It has some awesome features and looks extremely polished, I just can't talk about it definitively because I haven't played it 🤷🏾♂️.
@@BRNG2042 I do think that the AI behaviors in hellsplit just kinda work for the game's setting because of the npcs being zombies and all but yeah melee gameplay does have less jank overall. I also think that it has the right balance between B&S physics and battle talent attack/npc variety

I do see where you're coming from, the main selling point of VR is the free movement, but this is kind of addressed in the video when I say "you're not playing as yourself playing as Batman, you are playing AS BATMAN, and it will make you fight LIKE BATMAN." The game's main goal first and foremost was translating the systems of the flat screen series into VR, and I do think they did that successfully with the system they made. They certainly did much better than Assassin's Creed or Skyrim. Although I do agree that for the next game they do, if there is one, they should tweak it a bit to make it more freeform. Maybe each part of a criminal's body has a certain effect when you punch it. The stomach won't knock them down but it will decrease their health, their head will basically instantly knock them down, their legs may take longer but open them up to a takedown, their arms and shoulders will stun them, etc.
I do think that blade and sorcery has some issues but I still think its by far the best combat vr game. I played gorn and blade and sorcery on and off during quarantine for a long time but my dog chewed my headset cable and It kept happening until I recently got a oculus headset about a year ago and I bought both of them but I just couldn't get back into gorn and I refunded it because it just felt bad to play. The combat feels not only really easy because of the massive windows you get to attack and dodge but you don't really have to try when fighting them and it just doesn't feel the same. My main issue is the movement is just so slow It feels like it takes multiple minutes to walk back and forth around the big arena just to one shot the new enemy that spawns in. I also just think the game just lacks having something else going for it because its really hard to try other forms of combat because this game just doesn't really have the options too do so. My final note on the game is that it isnt bad by anymeans but I just cant see myself playing gorn.
Yeah, Blade & Sorcery is definitely much more well rounded than GORN is. Out of curiosity, were you using the joystick way of moving or the "grab & pull" way of moving? Because you can go around pretty quickly with the latter method. Also, on nightmare difficulty the enemies move much, MUCH faster, and there's no slow mo.
@@cannedcam1401 I haven't played Behemoth yet, but I have heard mixed things about it, apparently in a recent patch most of its problems were fixed, so I would probably have a far different view on that.
Of course, the definition of "perfect" is subjective. There's a lot of people who don't like Batman's combat being relatively pre-determined, but there's no denying that it works nearly 100% of the time, is super satisfying, can be challenging, and is simple enough for (almost) anyone to get into and have fun in. (Also that was just one example specifically for non-physics based games, according to my criteria there's more than one way to achieve perfect VR combat.)
Agreed and valid: 4:19 Gorn is moreso a tech demo that demonstrates what is, in my opinion, perfect combat, but for a tech demo, it's pretty damn good.
I just noticed the watchmojo you snuck in that part lol. Good video though just highlighting that Gorn isn't too much of a game. Underdogs is a banger.

We just need a dev to make a blade and sorcery style combat without the jank
exactly bro
I think Warpfrog are planning on doing just that eventually. Blade and Sorcery is fun but is definitely held back by mistakes in early development that they've learned from by now
@robjsmiles I've been thinking the same tbh I honestly wish they would I hope they do
@robjsmiles I hope it's multiplayer
Behemoth has really good melee also, its arcade mixed with physical
@@Sneaky_Tempest I really have to get it EVERYONE'S talking about it. But I need to get it on PSVR2 because I'm stubborn 😅.
next shooting in vr games and driving
I appreciate the suggestion, but those videos probably won't be made only because those two game mechanics have been pretty much nailed in the VR space already. You'd be hard pressed to find a popular VR game with bad shooting mechanics or a racing game with bad driving that isn't just shovelware. However I am still open to talking about what I consider to be the best VR shooters, but their shooting mechanics would not be the main reason why.
I think Battle Talent combat not being mentioned is a crime
@@ketchup9804 I would rope battle talent into the "Similar games to B&S" category, meaning that it shares the same problems. (Also I haven't played that game NEARLY enough to give my two cents on it, I wouldn't do it justice.)
What if the next video wasn't CDHD and instead was a video of our wedding? 🤔
@explodingninja7897 We haven't even planned it yet staaahhhhpppp
Did you ever heard about Half Sword? Its not VR, but has the best melee combat i ever played with, give it a try!
I have indeed! I play the Steam demo version on a whim sometimes because I enjoy being a psycho
what do you think of hellsplit arena?

Batman is just dance dance revolution with punches it takes the freedom that makes vr immersion and tells u how to punch leave that for flate screen
I used joystick and it is painfully slow and when I played I did play on nightmare difficulty and it still just didnt feel fulfilling
@@thedetect1ve oof, yeah that sucks, I personally never used joystick because I'm a purist, but I totally understand how GORN didn't fit your fancy

Batman? So, perfect VR combat is the game telling you what to do and when, like a long series of QTE's? yeah, no
Of course, the definition of "perfect" is subjective.
I mean it’s honestly more enjoyable than most of these vr games they’re janky at times but never with arkham shadow
Try Bonelab bro
Don't gotta tell me twice 😎
Gorn is barely a game tho
Agreed and valid: 4:19
Gorn is moreso a tech demo that demonstrates what is, in my opinion, perfect combat, but for a tech demo, it's pretty damn good.
I just noticed the watchmojo you snuck in that part lol. Good video though just highlighting that Gorn isn't too much of a game. Underdogs is a banger. Just find it a bit annoying that people point ot other more complete VR games and say HEY this tech demo VR game does bstter combat for a game that only does in depth combat and have nothing else/incredibly easy/sandboxy @@BRNG2042
