Yes, the tempo is brisker here than on the commercial recording -- waxed, incidentally at Krupa's last session of his first stay with the band -- or the more famous '38 Carnegie rendition. Benny's rhythm sections -- the drummers in particular, but certainly piano, bass and guitar, as well -- provide another means of dating the performances: Krupa, Tough, Hamp, Nick Fatool ... and so on -- all highly distinctive players.

Wow! Your uncle was such a great lead man -- he really shaped the sound of any band he graced. I do associate him more closely with the BG reeds, although I am aware of his tenure with TD. The reeds during his initial stay with Benny were truly part of that band's defining sound.

THE TEMPO IS FASTER THEN THE COMMERICAL RECORDING OR THE ORIGINAL CONCERT FROM 1938. GREAT MUSICANS ALL OF THEM AND I SHOULD KNOW AS MY UNCLE HYMIE SCHERTZER WAS BENNY'S ORIGINAL LEAD ALTO SAX MAN. BY THE TIME THIS WAS DONE HE HAD BEEN OFFERED MORE MONEY BY TOMMY DORSEY.EVENTUALLY RETURNING TO GOODMAN BY 1942
