I save the 1/2” wide rubber bands wrapped around broccoli stalks and asparagus spears (usually purple) in my kitchen drawer. They’re excellent for opening jars and bottles (I have arthritic hands). I use two long rubber bands to keep my crockpot lid on. Stretch both from side handle to side handle, and, on the center knob, one goes to the left, the other to the right, looking like a crisscross. This keeps the lid extra secure, especially when traveling (to a potluck dinner, for instance).
