    Looks like you had seen the Mini and reacted, the o/s went onto the grass, causing the traction system to engage, when you got back onto the track there must have been a bit of excessive torque through the o/s wheels which you could see by your steering input to counter against that torque vector. Personally I'd blame the Mini driver 😂

    A bit of nerd info for you.... A 1 dB change in a sound equates to about a 26% difference in sound energy (remember that a 3 dB difference is a doubling of energy levels). In terms of subjective loudness, a 1 dB change yields just over a 7% change. A 3 dB change yields a 100% increase in sound energy and just over a 23% increase in loudness.
    It's the reason I took the AR1's off of my car.

    Firstly glad youre alright Lee, any crash you can walk away from is a result.
    Without sounding too cynical and this comes from a respectful place but why focus on doing all these mods, chasing more bhp etc.. when youre clearly struggling to drive the car within its abilities in standard form? Just seems abit daft 🫤 seats/harness and a neck brace would have been more sensible.
    These cars are so capable in standard form, get used to that power, learn how to shift properly and learn the cars characteristics to the point where you know every inch of it and can anticipate its behavior when pushed .
    Anyone can map a car turn the traction off and go fast..but when you run out of skill then then big bhp means nowt.
    Glad you walked away from it in one piece but dial it back mate and get the basics down 💪❤

    Sorry to learn of your accident but at least you’re ok. I ran AR1 all last year. Went through 22 of them. A good tyre but very noisy and only reasonable on track in the wet. Just had two sets of the new Bridgestone Potenza Race. They are another level and much quieter. Price wise about the same too. Sadly my i30n and driving style at the ring eats up the outer edges so I went back to AR1 last weekend. They are much harder and accommodating for wear but less grip and much noisier. . If you’re predominantly using it on the road the Bridgestone are great and you’ll love it on track. They are probably not far off an AO52 and good value.

    That interior footage is wild, it’s fortunate that you weren’t seriously hurt…
    There is a school of thought that says running a harness is dangerous because a crushed roof could lead to serious neck injuries, but then you see this footage and can’t help but think it would be safer to be strapped in to the seat.

      @@evilgtlee I run a harness in my cars but I'm under no illusion that they are just as dangerous sometimes. As they pin you into the seat, if you hit an immovable object at speed like here, all that force and momentum that chucked you out of the seat is acting only on your head and neck and depending on the impact/speed can be deadly.

    Good advice from me: get a pc and a mid priced sim rig and a decent game like assetto corsa. Not gran turismo or something like that. Especially drifting different types of cars (fwd,rwd,awd) in the simulation will give you so much understanding about how the physics of the car work and teach you reacting to these kind of situations. Thats the way i learned racing before getting myself a yaris. In your situation as soon as you had touched the grass and as you had noticed the car starts spinning the right thing would have been to put the accelerator to the floor and steer in the direction where you want to go. As with awd cars the front wheels pull you into the direction where the tyres are headed under acceleration

  • @MrGB1999
    @MrGB1999 5 месяцев назад +1

    Loss of traction due to redlining / drop off in acceleration = sudden drop off in grip levels. This is then followed by a lack of reverse lock correction (which may have saved the skid, but also could have resulted in pendulum slide back the other way). So either a fraction less speed in that gear or a short shift before the corner and use the torque instead. That's my 2p, at least. Obviously a very technical corner to get right! Good luck with the car.

    Looks like the ESC was coming in as you went through the corner when you crashed, which probably pushed you wide leading to your rear right wheel being on either the grass or the less grippy kerb and then sending you into the wall. If you're in track mode, you need to hold down the Traction Control button long enough to turn off Expert in the digital display. Then all the nannies are off. For someone who is knocking on a bit you certainly like the toys. Don’t let this put you off but if I could offer any advice it would be this. When the car is fixed you definitely need better seats and 100% a harness to keep you in place should you have another excursion. Cadwell is no Joke Lee. then maybe swallow your pride and invest in track day tuition which I’m told is worth it. Everyone I know who’s done it has learned a lot and recommended it. Lastly I reckon every track day at Cadwell sees a crash at the goose neck. Yours was a calamity though. The change in direction then there’s a wicked lip and dip combined with lift off over steer and jumping on the brakes was tragic. Get tuition and you will see they teach you to look much further ahead for instance. You clearly didn’t see how fast you were catching the Mini. I suspect you were looking at the Speedo maybe too? Anyway good luck with the Bradford boys innit

    Track insurance is 100% worth it even if you back your own talents. I recently had to claim on mine after two other cars nearly collided, went spinning and one took me out! Very annoying but you only cover yourself on track regardless of fault. I paid £130 insurance for the day with Moris and they paid out in 2 weeks from submitting the claim. £8k paid out and free to use any garage, new or old parts and they paid out with no quibble less my excess. Definitely worth it should the worst unfortunately happen. Luckily my car can be saved and it's all covered.

    You should watch a couple of recent videos from REPerormance as he talks about tracks days and spends a bit of time talking about tires, he highly recommends sticking with road tires and not slicks as you need completely different suspension geometry to make the slicks actually work otherwise you go backwards from road tires. I get the feeling you would have caught that with road tires and not had the accident as there’s no doubt those slicks weren’t in their optimal operating temps

      Yeah I was thinking the same. The semis are good but I’m not sure any better than the road tyres 🤷🏻‍♂️ Ove gone for cup 2’s now so let’s see what they are like

    I crashed my mx5 on the Nurburging 3 weeks ago, not a fun experience but I learned from it. Was a combination of problems. Tracks was colder then what I was used to, suspension was shit and I was pushing hard because it was going very well. Made a grave mistake on my part there but it's should all be fixable but man does it suck. O just can't wait to drive it again on the Nurburging, not finishing the lap just sucks.

    • @evilgtlee
      @evilgtlee  5 месяцев назад +1

      I’ve never crashed on the ring but from what I’ve heard it can be expensive not just for the car to be fixed but all the other track repairs etc. main thing is though you can walk away, everything else is fixable 🙏

    Interesting you mention the pain you felt during the impact, this is exactly why the more recent crash tests have an offset test to try and mitigate the transfer of force into the vehicle.
    Yes I am boring, sorry.

    Mine conti sc7 looks exactly the same after 1000km and 50km on a track (very small and technical). I will be trying to get the warranty action on them because either there is a major problem with quality control or conti is just lying in their marketing materials. No other tire is degrading that fast. You cant call it UUHP tire if they are melting faster then smoking winter tires in 20C temp on track
