Fictitious in the fact no one is still around to tell the tale lol but Ragnar and his Sons did exist but the real stories behind the tale are a lot darker for instance we think Ivar is bad in the show... dearie me he was a LOT worse in real life, those times were very different to now and most of the crazy ways of living were social norms by then.. thankfully in ways that's changed lol
