This is indeed an untold story of Liberia. If only they can get one school and one clinic or hospital on this island that will be great. Also they will need a bridge too. Good blessed Liberia. ❤❤
Hi there Emmanuel 👋. My name is Gloria and I’m one of your biggest fan !!!!!!!!!!!! I’m a Librarian living in Minnesota. And I’ve been here now for almost 30 years. I’m so super grateful for you being a RUclipsr because you have been bringing LiB. to the world that live away from home ( Liberia 🇱🇷 ). I’m later father was from Maryland county 💯 % both his mother and father. I’m from Maryland also but I’ve never been there before when I was in LiB. before traveling to the USA 🇺🇸. It’s has been many years since I left LiB. I need to come and visit Liberia and my county Maryland 😅. I heard a lot about Maryland county. But you brought Maryland county to me in Minnesota. I’m so happy and grateful E man. You and everyone else are definitely right about Maryland county is BEAUTIFUL !!!!!!!!! 😅. Congratulations to you E man as a RUclipsr !!!!!!! Thank you so much for your kind words of appreciation. Your kind words serve as motivation to me. Thanks for being part of my Journey of listening and watching the untold stories of Liberia. I am grateful cheers
Hello Emmanuel, I wanted to let you know that I think this video is amazing. I've been following your videos and there's so much to learn about our country, Liberia. You're doing an excellent job. I currently reside in Chicago, but I'll be visiting Liberia this year. God bless you, brother.
Hello Mr. Kortu, Watching from USA, love your videos. I have decided to be a very devoted follower/ subscriber to support you. God bless and keep you as you traverse our beautiful and blessed mama Liberia. Be safe out there 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Look at this jewel in my mother’s land! It is beautiful I lone this place it is beautiful! Eman I am from Maryland but never been to before, I love it.
Emmanuel Y. Kortu, thank you so much for all you do. It's good that you asked the people if they were willing to have investors over...I was thinking about that.🙏🏽
Hi Emmanuel. First, I want to say thank you for showing the land of my birth and visiting my ancestral land. However, I want to bring up the trend I’ve noticed in Liberia and among Liberian youtubers of going to Liberian villages and talking about the idea of investors buying up the land. That whole selling land from indigenous just in the name of development causes land dispossession and displacement. It’s not only Liberians that are watching these videos, there are non-African people who are looking to always exploit our people. These people need the land to farm, feed their families, and fish cause that’s what God has given them. If they land is taken form them under “investors and development” how else would they live? To go in central Liberia and go live in West Point? All the land that government has sold to investors, yet Liberia is more underdeveloped, our land and water is being destroyed by investors that want to make money from Liberia. It’s laziness and greediness to make quick buck that’s why we are selling our country. Yes I know they aren’t living the fancy lifestyle we want them to, but development is done by the people, it only us that can develop our villages and countries ethically. An Italian, Indian or Chinese man will never suggest to his people to sell of their land, it’s only us that do that because they know the important of owning and controlling their own land. Look at South Africa, the Africans don’t even own their own land. This village and all of Liberia will be developed in due time, we just need to roll our sleeves and organize ourselves. There’s no short cut to development, selling off lands to investors causes land dispossession that causes more poverty. Thanks again and keep showing us the beauty of our lovely country. -Sister Tina.
Thank you so much sis Tina, You know my job is to ask the question, it doesn't in anyway suggest that I want the place sold, I just wanted to hear from the oldman if they were thinking about selling the place. Thanks so kindly for always watching. I am grateful 🙏
@@emmanuelykortu Fair question, Emmanuel! It's better to know what's people are thinking by asking questions than assuming. By their response, you can take preventative measures if their thoughts will lead to a not so pleasant path. I saw a gleampse of Liberia natural beauty during the Civil War.
Sis, South Africa situation is different. Their lands were seized/colonized from them. In Liberia case, God forbid if the people's lands are sold, it would be terrible Liberian government action or the people are tire living in poverty generation after generation. Poverty breeds lots of necessary but poor decisions.
@@sunnyj7257 Some were sized most lands were actually sold to the Dutch and British for two loaf of bread. South Africa is relevant because it shows what happens when we as African and Black people don’t own your land and colonization happens in different forms. If our land is being sold off bit by bit, we will own nothing and have of autonomy. It doesn’t have to be invasion to be colonization, colonization now days is happening in subtle form; land grabs by corporation in the name of investment and business people, for example the Lebanese and Indian. And these people are some of the most racist and anti/black people, eventually if they have enough power, we will turn into second class citizen. This was happening in Uganda in the 80’s, How many Liberian or African man can just go to their countries and start business freely? There’s even an article on New York Times of how Liberia is being colonized by the Lebanese. Look at what’s happening to our beautiful rainforest that is being damaged in the name of Palm plantation by the Indonesian corporation and they still didn’t hire Liberians despite damaging and taking their land that they rely on for food. That’s the real poverty. There’s even an Indonesian guy video I saw on RUclips begging an old town chief to give up his land to him saying that I will feed you in return. It’s sad sad case what happening in Liberia, if we continue down this path we will have nothing left for our future generation including the natural resources we are bragging about. I’m saying all this because we need to be aware and be proactive.
Liberia longest president in its history don't do much for the place of his birth, am referring to president Tubman who was president from 1944 to 1971 and not much for Liberia as a whole I know some of you will disagree with me but that's fine because we all are have our opinions sometime we agree or disagree and is good to have a healthy debate and not be nasty to one and other.
Not only the fact that he didn't do nothing for Liberia he was also a sell out. He was apart of the reason Afrika didn't unite during the time Nkrumah and others were fighting to unite the continent. He was used by a she devil Queen Elizabeth.
These debates you speak of are not as healthy as you think all they do is promote division. Instead of Liberian people worry about what President Tubman has or has not done as yourselves why our Presidents after have yet to make an effort to follow in his footsteps or do what he has not done. Not only that why haven’t THE PEOPLE OUR PEOPLE done what THE GOVERNMENT til this day refuses to do. This nonsense talk your speaking that continues to lay the groundwork for division amongst not only Liberians but Africans all across the world. Do more for your people and in the name of the people and get from behind a keyboard speaking negative about OUR predecessors and ancestors. BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE OR BE QUIET. - Vacanarat Bodio “Future” Tubman
We need to turn that place to resort ..am from Maryland and this is what we will end up doing ...we need money yo develop the people ..that place is beautiful...
The people later went to live with the settlers to go to school, the settlers came with Christianity and they went on to evangelism, so the people adopted the names...
These people were later domestic servants to the settlers and their names were changed. This is why many Grebo Marylanders have names like Williams, Yancy, Harris, Denis, Wilson etc.
Wow this beautiful government needs to invest in these places. Everyone does not have to live in Monrovia. We need schools and hospitals in these communities.
I went to this town when I was in Maryland County. This town you can't climb in coconut tree to pick coconut. If you want to eat coconut, you can take it from the ground as many you want, but don't climb in a tree.

I'm confused. The settlers chased the people from their land, but the different quarters of the town are named after settlers 😮😢???
