I have the same one. Bought 07/23/2004 & it has always started in 1 - 3 pulls until this year.
Just went through the carburetor, putting back together now. Fingers crossed!

Since my comment 10 months ago I have been thru it and back again with my $%@#/?! lawnmower. Good thing I don't own a gun or I'd have put us both out of our misery.
Ultimately I have prevailed over the beast with lots learned along the way.
The carburetor had a plugged pilot jet. It took about 5 or 6 attempts to get past that.
Torch tip cleaners did not get it but micro drill bits did. Harbor Freight $2.99.
Wore out & tore some gaskets taking them off and on, off and on, x5 or 6. Cereal box cardboard -no. Gasket paper from AutoZone -yes! $12?
Put the spacer on backward once. Eventually got a sharpie and numbered every gasket, including the spacer and the 2 metal plates. WITH the numbers facing the way that would correctly orient everything, so nothing ends up backward or upside down which IS POSSIBLE, or so I'm told. Just sayin' . . .
Mis-threaded the float bowl one of the times & had to figure out the gas leak. Luckily no damage done.
Had the governor arm pretty screwed up from jerry-rigging it with 14 gauge wire so it wouldn't idle at 8k rpms. Reset it a few times, straightened & rebent the spring to look like it's supposed to.
Had the skinny end if the spark plug come unscrewed a couple of times. Don't ask me!? Maybe related to hydrolocking(?) 2 or 3 times where the rope will NOT pull, or rips your arm out of the socket. Remove spark plug & rotate blade by hand until compression eases off to fix that issue.
Changed the oil and it starts fine, runs great. Wouldn't trade the challenges and lessons along the way either. Good stuff to know. Thanks 4 asking!

@@evelynmahoney3569 I hope I do as well (getting it running in the end) I rebuilt the carb, put it all back together and it will only run on choke until it is very warmed up..then only on high..after running and mowing for over 20 minutes it will allow me to throttle it down a good bit but if I turn it off, let it sit for 5-6 minutes...I have to work to get it running again and repeat it all again. I'm not sure but I will take the carb off again double check all that (and gaskets) but I'm just not sure why it isn't running correctly. I tested the gas cap, vacuum, watch about 25 videos on the same rebuild..I'm puzzled. I hope I can not shoot the mower..I have a gun. haha (I really wouldn't but...)

I tried to duplicate thr same temp. carb stud hack. Found 1 carriage bolt that was the rignt threads & long enuff. Cut the head off & it worked great.
Just having one is good enuff and a huge help. But i wanted two. I used a wooden chopstick from chinese takeout for the other.
I had located a nut that fit the original bolts & was using it to try different bolts for one with the rignt threads. I used that same nut to make threads on the wooden chopstick. Worked great!

Do tell, why did you rush through the reassembally of the gaskets and carb when that is the main reason I watched your video to get the right gaskets and pieces in order. Thanks otherwise.

Have the same Honda engine and choke set up on a Craftsman. I found the choke released too quickly causing the engine to die. I fiddled around with it and couldn't get it to stop releasing so quickly; finally just removed the linkage from the bail handle.

I fiddled with this one too. The springy metal tab that pushes the plastic choke lever can be bent in either direction to tweak things. It's kind of a pain because it's just trial and error, but you can adjust how long the choke stays on that way to a certain extent.
