  • It is that time of the week again, it is time to declutter another section of this hoarded basement! This time we’re breaking the cycle of new clutter coming into the basement! I never realized how much stuff I had at work over the years and we brought stuff home to sort and declutter! The stuff has only been there for a day!! That is a record for me for sorting stuff that comes into the house!! We are breaking the cycle of having new clutter taking up space in the basement!

Hi, you have helped me a lot. As you, I'm also decluttering. I'm also a crafter and save everything so I can do something with it. Guess what? The cardboard boxes I was saving for something, served me to separate the china I'm giving away so when it gets there it will get there in one piece. I'm happy it served its purpose and I can continue to declutter.

I’m no professional but just being on diy RUclips and following several professionals on RUclips, I’m wondering if maybe part of the problem with the flooding throughout the years is needing better drainage and paths outside for water to pool to, definitely worth looking into as it could be doing more damage than you think and I’m sure there’s things that can be done to lower the risk of water getting in at all.

One thing I would like to point, though, about the salt lamps/tealight holders. Please be careful where atoring them, as some cats show interested in them, and try to lick them. Is it going to be toxic for a cat, so wiudl encourage to use it, as I myself love salt lamps, but put them in a closed space or out of reach of the cat (which I think it's only in a closed palce;))
    Cheers!

    take it easy!
the less stuff its definately easier to clean.. or move if things get wet like your basement does... check and make sure to slope the ground away. get some ground covers around there... maybe bigger downspouts, maybe add a rain garden too.
times of floods etc... I get the most anxious w feeling I have too much stuff.. lost some stuff to laundry floods etc. . and always feel there's too much... we've been conditioned to have big houses, big garages, big basements and attics to store stuff... when we only need a little space for seasonal things unless they are the really big toys. I try to make a point to not stuff things in the basement.. esp that flooding or dampness is a risk ... did that in our old house.. and here as well.. makes it a tad more fuller in spots but things are safer... also don't do the outta sight outta mind and never sort things/get rid of them. most ppl don't ever question why they have something.. I definitely did that w my vhs collection.. schlepping around more than a thousand tapes, smh. my husband did the same thing with his books.. from a ( den) library full to most can fit on 1 bookcase.

Hey, miss heart! What do you think about putting everything in those empty big plastic bins? I feel so much for you when you face water damage, and I know decluttering takes time and energy (including mental energy in decision making, that's pretty exhausting. I can say this for myself, it drains me out). Maybe you could put the whole paper boxes inside the plastic bins, without even looking at what's inside, for later sorting!
