2008 we had bolt , 2012 we had rudisha , 2016 we han van niekerk , now this year we got warholm. Glad I was able to witnesses all of them

As a former athlete, this has to be one of the greatest races that I’ve ever witnessed over the past 40 years, I was literally out of my seat almost the entire race, I just felt that something extra special was about to happen and boy it did not fail to deliver, a speechless performance and a tremendous race by all the runners!!

Both the men’s and women’s 400mH lived up to their hype.
Both were just so good. The top 3 of both were gave us out of this world performance.
Samba in fifth place ran the 6th fastest time in Olympic history. Would have won gold in every other Olympics in history, save for silver in 1992 when the WR was set.
For me it definitely has to be the 400m Hurdles. There is a lot of athletes in the world that would dream of running a 45-point in the open 400m.. This was done over hurdles. Impressive is an understatement. This time for 2021 in the open 400m would rank as 143 in the world 😳..
I would love to see him race this race without the hurdles.

As a former track runner, this has been one of the best Olympics for track I've seen. The American women's 4x400, the women's 400 hurdles. A girl in the 100 beat Flo Jo's record, and in the women's mile a girl FELL and still got 1st.
But this event just blew me away. It is actually insane to run a lap in 45 seconds with hurdles. It will be very, very long before somebody will be able to beat that

No argument. I'll just say that comparing performances of that caliber is kind of pointless. How can you say that any of those is not the greatest performance of their time?
I've never followed Track & Field events before except to watch some Olympic highlights, or if a world record gets smashed making it news worthy.
I then stumbled upon 'Running Productions' in the lead up to the Olympics when selections were taking place.
Before I knew it I was hooked watching all the channels posts. and
I've even become a little bit knowledgeable about the athletes, their names, preferred races, etc.... and I'm not even from the USA. 😂
All due to the channel's excellent content & delivery, making Athletics damn interesting n super entertaining. Bravo!👏👏

As a past 800m runner this might pass the 2012 800m as the best race I have ever watched on the track. This is probably one of the greatest races in all time. And I’m not just saying that, I truly believe that this one of the best athletic performances in history.
"One of"? That goes without saying. Most if not all world records are "one of the best" would you not agree? The problem is when someone claims it is THE best.

I remember watching the 400m hurdles final this olympics and my jaw litterally dropped as I saw a 45. on the board, Karsten Warholm is an absolute legend
On the Flo Track Podcast they mentioned, that if you compare Warholm's time to the regular 400m times ran this year, he would place 142nd on that list, which is crazy to think about! This is definitely going down as one of the greatest races of all time. To shave .7 seconds off the WR and having the two fastest runners in 400mh history in the same race in an Olympic final is extremely special.

What`s amazing is that almost everyone on the track set records. Either PBs or national/area records. This is extremely rare. Also with that in mind, the distance that Warholm and Benjamin won with tells the full story of how insanely fast they both ran. In any other 400mh race, Benjamin would`ve won with over half a second. Absolutely insane race. This will probably be the golden era of 400mh. So much talent!

Yes. I first noticed him in the semi final in the Doha World Championships, when he was 19, and I thought: "If this kid keeps progressing, he's going to be dangerously good."

This race was epic, legendary...this race will be spoken about for decades.
Carsten Warholm's win was the greatest performance in track and field that I've seen in 57 years of following t & f. It's worth noting that t & f world records are rarely set at the Olympics, in spite of the high level of competition, because there are heats , or elimination rounds. So, an athlete must be among the top finishers in, typically, prelims and a semi-final just to survive and make it to the finals; itself an exhausting experience. To then shatter the world record in the final is a stunning achievement. Congratulations to Carsten Warholm on his historic win, and for exemplifying what it means to be a great athlete!
and the bronze and silver also broke the old world record and one ran nearly a second faster than their best so everyone did amazing
Great video! On top of all the technical stuff you just analysed, on a personal note, this race was simply beautiful. Everyone giving his 200% and an epic close finish with a mad acceleration effort by Warholm to keep his 1st place. Just epic!

My fave moment was definitely 20 year old Jakob Ingebrigtsen’s 1500m gold medal win and olympic/european record. His first time ever beating Cheruiyot. It was incredible.
He entered #20th world, with that run. But here's the thing, if you do some research into when runners peak, you find the average age at 25.
In the top 20, everyone above him were 24-28 when they got their records.
Jacob Ingebrigtsen's time at just 20 years old, is damn incredible. And there's no reason to assume he's peaked yet.
@@ienfrg His two older brothers have paved the way for him, also being international top runners. The Norwegian TV show "Team Ingebrigtsen" gives a lot of insight, and the two older brothers have certainly helped set up the training plans and tested what works and does not work for their genes. Facinating that their father is the coach. Very much a family team.

I agree that the most epic performance in these Olympic Games was the 400m hurdles world record by Karsten Warholm. The second most epic one was the 400m hurdles world record of Sydney McLaughlin.
Sydney's time is .06 over the qualifying standard in the open 400m for the Olympics , in that respect she outshone the men.
I can't describe how incredibly proud I am of the Norwegian athletes. There are way more people living in London, than in our whole country combined

@@barath4545 None of the runners on the US women’s 4x400 team were were 400 specialists, which was pretty interesting. Felix is an historically versatile sprinter whose one World and Olympic medals at everything from the 100 to the 400. Mu is an 800 specialists and Muhammad & McLaughlin are hurdlers. Incidentally, Mu just became the first female athlete to win double gold at the Olympics in the 800 & 4x400, which I thought was pretty cool. 🙂

I woke up the morning after and heard Warholm had got a world record. I didn't look at the time and just watched the race, completely clueless about what had happened. I was left open-mouthed. Honestly incredible
Karsten was always the favourite, Rai never had a chance to beat him imo, never thought he would, even after the 46.83. Karsten literally runs like a man possessed hence why he is unbeaten for the last 3 years. Both athletes are absolutely incredible. One of the best races ever if not the best

I actually think 1341p for sub 46:00 at 400m h is ridiculously low! In compare, this time would make you a national champ at the 400 flat in numerous countries, like Britain and Seden, while it would get you a silver in Norway, only beaten by Warholm himself. Besides.. It would secure you a place in the semifinals at the Olympics! - And that speaks volume!

Sifan Hassan , that's the woman who made me speachless during this olympics, she even fell once in the last round while running at rank 7 or so and still won that race.
from memory this was on at about 4am in England. I almost fell asleep in the hour leading up to it but I couldn’t sleep afterwards I was so excited from it. best race I’ve ever seen live

She fell with less than one lap remaining in her 1500 metres heat got up and won race then won Olympic 5000 metres final later that same day that’s insane.
Hassan is already a GOAT. Dont know why TRP didnt review Hassan's performances in Tokyo yet

She fell in the 1500 semi, got up with less than a lap, got 1st with a competitive time that even 99% of all human can’t achieve and later in the same evening won gold in the 5000. Amazing!

For me, the two others that stand out are at the opposite ends of the "Age" spectrum. 1. Athing Mu in the women's 800 meters. 2. Eliud Kipchoge in men's Marathon.
The future is Mu and what she might do eventually to world records. The final "icing on the cake" was Kipchoge. He has nothing more to "prove" to the world: he's done it all. Records, multiple titles and a special "paced" sub 2 hour Marathon. Both provided excitement and awe.
There were plenty of other contenders: Jakob Ingerbritzen in men's 1500. Hassan in women's 5,000 and 10,000. Plus, the Olympics displayed a whole host of other young talent coming through, including Cole Hocker. Chepteigi. 2024 Olympics is already looking great. Thanks TRP for yet another fantastic video. I believe the first few hurdles wouldn’t make much of a difference, but the last couple would. Without the hurdles in the last stretch, he would be able to maintain his speed. I’d say with the right training and conditions, sub 44 without the obstacles.
He will run 400 flat in Lausanne august 26. He could run in the 43’s for sure

Probably the greatest performance in the history of sport. For 29 years the mark of 46.78 by Kevin Young could not be beaten. All three medallists in this race ran faster. With the bronze medal being won in 46.72, which was more than three quarters of a second behind the winning time. If someone had told Benjamin he'd run 46.17 in Tokyo, he would have been elated, but to run that astonishing time, only to come 2nd is unfathomable. The winning time of 45.94 is faster than many athletes ran to win their national championships in the FLAT 400! I am not surprised Karsten tore apart his shirt. The adrenaline must have been flowing, out shining the inevitable lactic in his legs, especially coming down the home straight. Breathtaking race. I've been an avid fan of Athletics for over 40 years and this race is easily the best I've ever seen. Simply incredible.
The Benjamin interview was one of the most difficult things I have ever watched. I felt so bad for him bc I know exactly how much he had to be hurting.
This type of mental anguish is always a risk when you go up against Thor's family.

Are they? Dos Santos, maybe, but apart from him, the numbers say otherwise.
Before Karsten and Rai Benjamin raced each other for the first time in 2019, Benjamin had the better PR, 47.02 against Karsten's 47.12. After that race, the difference was 0.06 seconds in Karsten's favour. 46.92 against Rai Benjamin's 46.98. That's
In 2020, Rai didn't race, but Karsten improved his PR to 46.87. That's 0.11 seconds.
Then, in 2021, Rai Benjamin ran 46.83 at the US trials, and had a better PR than Karsten for five days, before Karsten ran 46.70 in his season opener. That's 0.13 seconds in Karsten's favour.
Now, after the Olympic final, the difference is 0.23 seconds in Karsten's favour.

Woman's 1500m semi-final - Sifan Hasan. That's my the best moment for me. To get up after coming down and winning her heat is just mind blowing for me. It gives me goosebumps everytime I think about it!
When I saw 45s, I was as shocked as when I saw Bolt go under 9.7 with his 9.69 in 2008 at the Bejing games. It was one of those bonkers, jaw dropping times that jumped off the screen. I thought the clock was broken.
Kevin Young’s record hasn’t lasted for almost 30 years before before Warholm beat it earlier this year. Warholm (and Rai Benjamin) blew my mind! 🙂

I’m shaking my head this time is simply incredible.. Give Karsten credit he attacked he pushed , he gave it everything he had. Had he been behind going into the final stretch I don’t know if he could have reeled in his competitor but he wasn’t. He led he fought he gets the credit for running the greatest races of all time. This event was not popular until Edwin Moses dominated the event.. Now he can setback and enjoy what he helped make one of the most exciting track events of all time.. But you haven’t seen the last of Benjamin.. LB August 2021

Wow, that's really, totally, extremely absurdly EPIC!
A track and field athlete - who trains for the 400m - can beat offensive linemen, tight ends, quarterbacks, fullbacks, defensive linemen, linebackers, and free safeties - many of which weigh between 250 - 350 pounds and train for 40m and not 400m. You great white hopers find the most absurd comparisons and blow them out of proportion. But hey, what else - besides hackneyed hyperbole - should one expect from the comment section for what is arguably the most hyperbole riddled channel on RUclips.
For me it was Sifan Hassam's fall on the last lap of 1,500 metre qualifier. She then got up and was way behind took off and not only qualified, she won the race. Even though it was only a qualifier, I have been in that same situation. So, even if it was only the last lap of a qualifier. Though not all the best runners were involved, it took a monumental effort to just finish, but then to win, come on. That race reminded me of the Scot Olympian Eric Liddel fell one the first turn of the 400m finals got up and ran everyone down to win the Gold Medal. This was just a qualifier, but the stakes were the same. Everybody was trying to win.and she got up and sucked it up and did it. So for me that was the single greatest feat accomplished.

Athing Mu gliding like a gazelle with her stunning form to what looked like effortless victory in the 800 meters. Only 19 yo , so mature for her age, and from the city where I was born too! We will see her do more great things I am sure.

@@Appaddict01 Hard to say, because in a 4x400 you are not starting from a standstill unless you're the first runner.
@@ohbe18 Just the fact that they have even 1 runner of world class quality is quite incredible, with their tiny population of little over 5 million. And they have Jakob Ingebrigtsen as well who took gold in 1500m. I am also very impressed every time Finland with around the same population as Norway, are able to beat powerhouses like USA, Canada and Russia in ice hockey.
This was a really good breakdown of just how great that run was. It’s mind boggling that Rai Benjamin could run that fast and place second.
Two generational talented hurdlers in the 400 meters that we may never see in our lifetime again. It’s scary how Rai ran a race where his heart didn’t explode out of his body just to finish in 2nd place.

That performance surpasses Beamons LJ record, Bolts records and MJ's1 19.32 as the greatest world record and race. To break a record by almost a second is absolutely insane. I don't think non sprinters realize just what that is.
The women smashed the record too. It's obviously due to the track and the shoes. The creator of the track says it gives a 1-2% advantage. Warholm said he hates the Nike shoes most of them are wearing, but isnt he wearing Puma ones designed to give a similar advantage?
In terms of percentages it doesn't surpass Beamon actually

Bob Beamon had 6.59%, that's how insane his jump was

@@valleyshrew Snake oil salesmanship. The cell tech they have been using has been known since 1976. They just change the dimensions. Also, WA has standards that must be meet - so no matter what these people say they never give us the data to look at and will always have to fit the WA guidelines. Mondo (Tokyo) and other track makers (Eugene) always boast that their shit is the best. One reason the WA has guidelines is because tracks affect different athletes and events differently - in other words a certain tech. will have advantages and disadvantages for one event and athlete over another and thus WA has median guidelines for acceptance. Puma does not have any air cushioning and has a thinner plate. There a dozens of contributing factors.

The best moment (or moments) for me was Tom Daley Finally winning Gold in his fourth Olympics and the Shared Gold in the mens High Jump.
Having watched Athletics longer than most Humans have been alive, I have always unofficially ranked the greatest performances of all time. From Bob Beamon's 29' 2 then to , Sotomayor's 8 foot 1/2 inch HJ, to Seb Coe's 141.73, on to Daniel Komen's 7:20.67, and now to Warholm's 45.94. The World scoring system is far from perfect. Karsten's time is IMO the greatest record in the history of Athletics. Javelin is second, 3000m is third. Great vid.
Just imagine 3 runners in the same race beating a wr that stood for 20yrs prior to the season in which they raced that is ridiculous (slso imagine smashing the wr by half a second and not winning the race ) this race was absolutely insane i think itll be s long time before anyone can outrun these 2 guys
well i am from norway so my favorite moments would have to be 400m hurdles, the 1500m and the beachvolleyball finale(i am a volleyballplayer myself)
Am from Sri Lanka, just fabulous racing, from two great champions .visited your beautiful country in 92. Had the pleasure of talking to Atle Skardaal and Kerrill Aamodt hopefully spelled right. Treasured the shirt from Atle it was embossed with his name on it. Went to lillehammer, watched the Olympic stadium under construction for the 94 W. O.
Unfortunate despite those massive achievements it was pants gate that got the most attention from our media in Holland.
That was truly an unbelievable race. Nearly all of the Track & Field events were amazing. I was beginning to wonder if Tokyo's track was too short.
This 400m Hurdles for men was my absolute top favorite event, followed by Jakob Ingebrigsten's 1,500m, and then Sifan Hassan's 10,000m win.
Hassan's 10,000m wasn't the fastest, but given that she already ran all the heats and finals of 2 other middle distance races, AND also given the heat during her 10k, her sheer determination, competitive spirit and endurance, completely filled me with awe and admiration!
For me, this was the best performance.
This is even greater than the 2012 800m
I would have to agree with your post as well as the Women’s 400IH Final which virtually replicated the same wow factor! Both races absolutely brought their respective events into the future by going faster than anyone could have predicted. Unreal and if I had to say waiting an additional year was not worth I would be lying! From the Field events to the track and Marathon; Tokyo 2020 hasn’t disappointed me. Great Job @tokyoolympics!

I have watched athletics longer than most have been alive. I have only been stunned by the performances a few times: Bob Beamon LJ, Michael Johnson 19.32, Seb Coe 1:41.73, John Walker, 3:49.4, Van Neikerk 43.03, Kevin Young 46.78...........and now 45.94 ! I think this was the most stunning, and occurred in a real race, not a blow out..

Mondo Duplantis being so young and dominant, yet so humble. The pole vault competitors are one big family. Its impressive to see them cheer and applause when a competitor makes a good jump, even if it would compromize their outcome.
