Oddly enough, all my dogs *love* the vets lol.Especially my 65KG (143 lbs) 36 inch tall Spanish mastiff cross. A rescue from Spain who has cost me £1000's because I was lied to. 2 cruciate repairs, various X-rays, blood tests and the like, hip score which found such severe hip dysplasia (a condition that all large breeds are prone to, including GSD) that on one side, there is no hip socket at all. His back leg is permanently dislocated!
    That's led to some challenges.
And despite of all the poking, prodding, being pricked and had thermometers shoved where the sun doesn't shine, he *loves* the vet.

0:33 A friend gave me that same hedgehog toy for my Norwegian Elkhound, Grey, in 1996. Moose inherited it when Grey went to the Rainbow Bridge, Moose passed it along to Aani in 2012, and Baldurdash loves it now.
I guess it's the scents of his predecessors on it.
'Dash knew Aani: she was his great-great grandmother and midwoof when he was born and she helped him train me for three years before she moved on.
I'm pretty sure there would have been traces of Moose's scent at the kennel because she was Aani's great-aunt.
Grey, Moose, and Aani picked my Mom out as their special projects (Mom was in frail health and they were Mom's therapists after a series of strokes, and Aani was her comfort through the end stages of dementia.
They also took good care of me through recovery from bicycling injuries and bouts of retina surgery.
    Dogs are the greatest!

    TL;DR
Opt 1: raw wildflower honey withing 50 miles of home.
Use Zymox for bathing & ear irritation.
Opt 2: Pet Labs itch relief chews.
Opt 3: Feeding cool/neutral foods from TCVM
For seasonal allergies get raw wildflower honey from a local bee farmer. Closer to home the better, but not more than 50 mi.
Was the only thing that worked for my boy. He's allergic to everything.
When we couldn't get the honey from our neighbor my husband bought this other stuff online from Pet Labs. It's itch relief. Equally great!
Before that I was bathing him with Zymox every other week. Instant relief. Even for ear infections. Saved me loads of $ on vet bills & relatively ineffective treatments.
Nothing the vets gave us brought so much relief and it took forever to get any improvement.
I also changed his diet to follow Traditional Chinese Vet Medicine. He's considered "hot" so to balance they he gets foods that are "cool" or "neutral".

'Allergies' is the word vets use when they cannot pinpoint the cause of itching. I've fought this battle for decades. I had several rescued GSDs with 'allergies' and severe itching. Now my senior mini-poodle has the same thing. Its not allergies at all. Its a reaction to, and result of several factors.
    1. Make sure your chicken is not full of antibiotics. This kills their gut bacteria and causes severe itching.
    2. Add Fish Oil but not Salmon Oil. Salmon oil cannot be digested by dogs, cats, or humans. Only by Grizzlies. So switch to sardine/anchovy fish oil by Iceland Pure. Keep in fridge.
    3. Looks like your diet is very good for them. Raw or cooked meats (always cook pork), add a veggie stew with cabbage, broccoli, squash (acorn/butternut/kabocha), zucchini, carrots, leafy greens like Swiss Chard, beet greens, bok choy, seaweed, turnips, celery, sea salt. The Cabbage and broccoli will remove toxins, the rest provide fiber and minerals for gut bacteria. I usually shred carrots raw, and add raw greens from Costco - the lettuce mix, and cook up the rest. No onions, garlic, avocado, grapes, raisins, etc. Raw berries are good, and chopped apples. Organ meats are great too.
    4. GSDs have finicky guts. Try Thomas Labs Bio Case Plus in their food for a while. Enzymes break down the food, and probiotics will boost gut function. Lots of other good stuff in there like Ox bile to digest food. If food is not digested properly, it results in a load on liver, which then sends toxins off to the skin. This is how itchiness happens.
    5. Give as few immunizations as possible. 3 yr rabies shots, and not much more. Stay away from steroids, they are a straight path to cancer. Apoquel, etc. are all bad. They do not tackle the root cause only the effects.
    6. Kefir is excellent. It has micro soil nutrients and probiotics. Better than yoghurt, but Greek Yoghurt can also be used. Always add some kefir and yoghurt to every meal.
    7. When you give probiotic supplements, add New Zealand Colostrum. This is probiotic food. This is why all babies get colostrum first 3 days from mother, but not milk. In the colostrum are passed down gut bacteria from the mother, to colonize baby's gut. When mothers do not breastfeed, the baby has a poor gut biome and all sorts of diseases start there, including depression. Gut bacteria produce 80% of serotonin which lifts mood. Depressed dogs and humans are missing gut bacteria.
    8. Visit www.nzymes.com and buy their Healthy Skin Kit for dogs. This is a method of killing off any yeast in the gut and repopulating it with friendly gut flora. It has good results.
    9. Commercial dogs food is killing our dogs. Feed natural food as much as possible. Real food, not processed. The junk they put in that!!!
    10. Embark on a 6 month dosage of Silymarin or Milk Thistle. This boosts fresh bile production, and detoxes the liver. Works well for dogs. The liver is the key organ for itching skin. Fix the liver and gut and you have the problem solved.
    11. Ketoconazole shampoo on Amazon kills any Malassezia yeast growing on skin. This causes intense itching. Shampoo, leave on 12 mins - massage it in - and rinse out. Do this 2 x week for a month to kill fungus.
12 MSM powder 1/2 tsp daily helps kill fungus. Its the sulphur mineral. I take this daily, and so do my dogs. Shiny hair, kills fungus.

I've never heard that as a treatment for allergies.
Baby aspirin is usually the worse the kind of NSAID to give a dog.
White Willow Bark is a better alternative to aspirin. It's what aspirin was made from before they learned to make it synthetically.
You can get it at pet stores usually.
I've adopted dogs with arthritis and it helped without causing any liver damage.
