People who complain about Ref Heart yarn being scratchy, etc don't know how to make it soft. They probably just crochet something and immediately use it. You have to soak then block your work, esp Red Heart. I do the white vinegar soak followed by hand wash and soak in Woolite (pink bottle) followed by a soak for a solid 24 hours in Downy fab softener and water (I like the Cotton scented Downy). After that you PRESS out the water (never ever wring out your work) then you block your work and let it dry. Once you do all that and let it dry? The drape of Red Heart yarn will shock you. It is absolutely beautiful, keeps it shape and you can toss it in the washer on gentle and even tumble dry it on low-medium for about 20-30 Mins depending on how big your item is, then pull it out and let it air dry the rest of the way. Plus it's cheap and it's easy AF to work with. It's a no brainer for me.
Thank you so much for doing this review for us! You are so quick! Even with the transitions not being perfect, it is gorgeous worked up. It looks like watercolors! (It washes great!) I think the rainbow color way has a little more yellow in it, less or shorter, dark colors. They are very close, just different amounts. I’m so excited to use it and I really hope they still get more in. They had it for like a week and now it just has like 1 or 2 occasionally in the crayon box. The other ones were in stocks until the big sale a week or two ago. Again Thank you! ❤
Beautiful yarn, and i love randomness of color and how it works up. Might like a skein or two if I can find it, and use it for bits on different projects. Great idea, though ive never done mosaic. Yet!!!
I'm crocheting a scarf using Moonbeam. The color change is very subtle. Very neutral. Great yarn. I will buy more. I want to crochet a cardigan using Bitty Stripes.
Thanks for sharing in two separate ways. This yarn caught my attention the other day and now I think I want it for stained glass afghan pattern I have in mind
Hi, my name is Sandy and I am from Cincinnati. I have used red heart super saver for a very long time and it actually has gotten softer over the years. I find that once I washed my item, and dry it with dryer sheets or put Downey in the wash, my project comes out nice and soft and squishy. Whatever was in the yard that made it a little stiff goes away, and you have a very nice product. I have to say that I get very tired of hearing people put this yarn down. There is a reason red heart super saver has been a staple for as long as it has. If you want to get a softer yarn from the get-go, red heart with love is very nice. But it does cost more. I like with love a lot, especially because it is almost a five weight.
I love the colors too. Good review. I would not purchase this yarn because there is no real color control but I would not have known that without your great review. Mosiac would be really good!!
Love this color way. Even though you are right about needing a bit more yellow, it still shows God's beautiful promise. I think making short blocks then putting them together would come out awesome. Now I just heard you say the same thing . HAHA! I love all our ideas. You are amazing Thryss! Have a wonderfully blessed day granny to be🥰
Thanks for sharing the info! I love the crayon color, too. I've relied on Red Heart for years partially because of its affordability. I steam block and find that the yarn softens up quite a bit with just that.
I hadn't heard of this yarn. On the skein, gorgeous 😍 but im not sure i like it worked up. Maybe with some black it might pop more 🤷♀️ Great review, thank you 🤗💜✌️
It’s on my list! Thank you for the review! 😊I like that you show a shorter piece and a longer piece. It’s very helpful. I wanted to make a lapghan or a baby blanket.
I got the color way Rattan, and I absolutely LOVE it. I’m working up a blanket and my daughter wants a scarf too. It’s really pretty and fun. Thanks for showing us the washed swatch also!
The first time I saw this yarn at JoAnn's I could not resist grabbing the only Crayon Box skein available. I was so happy to see more a few weeks later. I'm thinking of making a cocoon cardigan.
Thryss, you have the most sweetest calming voice. ❤ Loved your review. My favorite is Mermaid, then Crayon Box. I'm thinking of making covers for my couch pillows with the Mermaid. PS... I'll stay weird. No problem 🤪
@@thryssinstitches9655 continuous granny square blanket/throws are my favorite thing right now😂😂😂 I like doing them cause my sides actually stay the same all the way around. I have tried the regular blankets with rows and I start out good and then it goes wonky😂😂😂
Hi Thryss. I love multicolored yarn!! I’ve never hear of Moonbeam, thank you for showing info on it. And I would definitely be making some wraps or ruanas out of that yarn.
I'm with you about the crayon box colorway. If I didn't have an embarrassing amount of yarn to use, I'd tried making a snuggly blanket with it! Your review was great, Thryss. Thank you 😊
So funny, I just both 6 skeins of this exact yarn. I've wanted it since Crystal showed it and when I saw it on sale at Joann's and in stock at my local store, I jumped on it. I'm still not sure what I am going to make with it, but I'm thinking maybe the granny square that Olga has with two colors. Now I need to figure out if I want this as the main color or the peek-a-boo color. I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually!
I think crayon box and black mosaic would look fantastic together. Great just great another yarn I want to go and buy now 😂. I hope Kindra doesn’t see this video because she’s going to need to put an extension on her house. ❤❤❤
Herrschners has them. 🧶
Oh really? Thank you!!!!
Love the colors. I rushed right here to see this because I was wondering what Bitty stripes looks like worked up. Thank you for reviewing this for us.
Of course!!

Thanks Megan! I have been wanting to buy this just have not done it yet.
I tend to prefer natural fibers too, not into man made fibers. But there are so many beautiful man made fiber yarns, that are soft and beautiful.
Oh the colors are so pretty!! I wonder how it would do in a granny square?
Beautifully I bet!!
The granny hexi at the end looks fabulous
