joint tool problem

maya2013,..
when i am creating a joint, the joints don't actually show some connection to each other, the orientation of the connectors are pointing in different directions,.. i tried all possible ways but still no hope,,, i tried deleting the prefs in my documents folder, tried uninstalling,.. i did even tried formatting my laptop(clean format as usual) but still no luck,..
