I'm pleased it wasn't that busy when I did it (02/05/23). There were 2 folk at the top and I met 3 people on the way down.. Mega ride, I did it from Cow Green reservoir.
Thanks for the great video Ian , unlucky with the puncture at the end . I did the ride yesterday , absolutely loved it , tough going at times as well .
Excellent video of an awesome ride. Thanks for posting this one. I wasn't sure how good the BW up from Murton was but your video made it clear. Four of us went up there yesterday and it was such a perfect day weather wise. Just bought your Lakes book for a few more tips! ;-)
Thanks Steve, that's great to hear you had a great day. I will definately be going back up there again soon. Thanks for buying the book, I hope you enjoy following the routes 👍
Thanks for sharing , I didn’t know about the bridle way from murton. Need to update my OS maps! Rode this today and it was even better than hoped for 👍
Did this a few years back in conjunction with Great Dun Fell and across to Cow green reservoir and along Maize Beck to High Cup, l also punctured on the decent. Great vid Kevin.
I know this is gonna sound a little annoying but could you please consider checking my ,i dont want you to like or even subscribe (you could if u want😉) I just wanna improve my mtb skills and youtube content so please comment wa i need to improve on in my youtube content ...enjoy ur day🤟 (ps. I know my videos are not the best and yes im not the best at mountain biking as i only started a little while ago)
Cracking vid as always Ian. You find some amazing tracks/routes. Gutted for you at the end. Pencilled a couple of your rides in from your book, for my 2 weeks off at the end of July 👍🏻
Great ride - I did the exact same in reverse a couple of weeks ago (climbed up from Dufton rather than Murton) and it was a lot firmer on the top. Note: whilst the O/S maps have the stretch coming the other way between HCN and Murton Pike as bridleway, but someone has removed the bridleway signs and just left footpath markers which had me checking the map a few times. Also, up on High Cup Plain - it's easy to be tempted by the Bridleway on the true left of Maize Beck (also Pennine Way route) to make a little loop on the top. Don't be tempted by this track - even with a couple of months of dry weather it was mush and there were a lot of ground nesting birds - so best stay on the true right of Maize Beck which is lovely XC riding!
Cheers mate, its a lovely area hey. I noticed a mixture of footpqth and b/way signs. Some were a bit faded though. I don't think it has been a bridleway for a long time as it doesn't appear on an older OS map I have got.

Yes great dun fell 2700+ft done that twice great descent , I would like to do cross fell on the mtb either from the golf ball across or from garigill , have you done cross fell yet
What an unfortunate end to the ride Ian! Stunning place to ride a bike though. Spent a few weeks during my Army career up at Warcop, always windy up there! Great ride Mate.
Thanks Bari. No this one isn't in the book. No gpx either. I don't always digitally record my routes. This one is pretty easy to follow though just using an OS. I recorded most of the turns in the vid. Start in Dufton. Ride to Murton and follow the bridleway to High Cup Nick. Keep following another bridleway from there back to Dufton. Enjoy 👍
@@Lakedistrictrider Thank you sir, I will pull out the OSMap soonest and draw-up. The wifey and I are super looking forward to this ride, and your video has made it easy to follow.
@@Bari_Khan_CEng_CMarEng good stuff, enjoy! Just to point out it needs a pretty recent OS. The bridleway was only added sometime within the last decade. I have an OS which is about ten years old and it doesn't appear. But it is there on a digital OS map I found online.
Thanks mate, I don't Strava all of my rides. Though I've started to put the links to the rides where I have recorded on Strava in the vid description. Only done that for a couple so far. A lot of the routes are also in my two guidebooks, though not this one
@@TrailFinder don't you need some sort of high pressure air pump. Saw you use one in your new wheels vid. Or ok just to pump up with track pump? Also need new valves? Think I need to do some research but may be time to go for it.
Looking to do this ride in the future. Shame about the puncture. I'll be sure to have my repair kit and tube packed in my bag. Do you have any of these routes on komoot or strava?
Hi Philip, thanks for your comment, glad you like them. You can get the books direct from Cicerone, or they are in quite a lot of bookshops like Waterstones, or you can get them on Amazon
@@Lakedistrictrider Ian, thanks for your reply, now I feel really stupid because if you’re Ian Boydon I’ve already got the Cicerone books & they’re excellent. Just one thing , and I may be being stupid again, but there don’t seem to be any links to gpx files. Am I right and if so it would be a great addition if these were published.
Thanks Philip and really good to hear you like the books! Yeah there is no gpx, mainly because I don't use them myself. Though If that's what people want I am going to think about a way of potentially doing it for certain videos.

What an amazing ride, just did this in the pouring rain and no one about all the way up and down.

I've only ridden it the way I did it and I think that way is probably best, so yes anti-clockwise.
