It's BS that you only have 633 views on this. Some serious gold right here and I don't even do audio anymore.

This is the best and most realistic video about "how to make it" with a recording studio out there! Thanks for the tips Brian you are a genious! Keep on with the good work!

Awesome video. You really go straight to the center of running ANY good business. Which so important. In regards to actually marketing yourself do you recommend FB/Google Adwords. VSL funnels? I'd love to know

From what I've seen other studios doing, content marketing on social media seems to be the most cost effective. There are definitely ways you could dominate paid advertising if you have productized services, but most of us don't have a great offering for that. That being said, every successful studio I know relies 100% on word-of-mouth. I think there's a place for heavy marketing efforts in the beginning, but after that your word-of-mouth should be taking over. If it's not, something else is wrong (which is why I push that self-assessment so much).

Thanks! Would a productized service be like a training course?

Sorry for the late reply, but a productized service would be something like mixing or mastering. Something you can charge a flat rate for, and have a VERY solid idea of how much time it's going to take you.
Both of those services lend themselves well to systemization, which means you can outsource or automate the non-creative parts. We'll be talking about this more on The Six Figure Home Studio Podcast in the future (launching late October)

So, first time I took you up on your email offers, and I commend you, good, sound , basic advice. I've always followed Dave Rat's advice from working RHCP concerts in Vegas as a well paid union A2 "never sacrifice your reputation for a paycheck." But we all have to keep the lights on, and the mortgage paid, food on the table well before the six figure issue is even addressed. The biggest issue for me was covered in step 4 I believe. I was a big dog in Vegas, never had to advertise, had a great reputation and was able to network and stay well paid strictly by word of mouth. I had to move to STL because of my wife's families issues, which were quite serious. Now I find myself as an adult father and husband who is basically the new kid on the block. This is a Union stronghold area, so much so that my past successes mean zilch. Here the question is "where did you go to high school, or if your union, who's your dad" I am not a local, but highly qualified. what is my method of self promotion? Put a business card up at the local Guitar Center??? Secondly, and I think we all fight this battle, anyone with a thousand bucks can by Logic Pro X, an SM7, a couple 57's and call themselves a project studio, so.... how do we overcome these basic hurdles even if we're highly qualified, have the top-shelf gear and knowledge, the studio space, work great with clients, are tech savvy, etc. when everyone and his brother has what is highly affordable, quality gear. All you really need is decent converters, a MacBook, and the aformentioned DAW and mics? This is a sign of the times. I believe you should focus on teaching how to find your unique niche. Nice Video though. Thanks!

Steve Pfeiffer hey Steve! This is a very tough situation but a fantastic question for our Facebook community. I highly recommend you join the group for free over at thesixfigurehomestudio.com/community
Once you join, just copy/paste your question from here. I’ll chime in with my advice, and, more importantly, there are thousands of other studio owners that can offer their perspective. Some of them will likely be able to offer advice from a similar perspective (having to move mid-career).
I’ll keep an eye out for your post!

I have realized I'm a bound to be a failure and will never succeed in the studio business and have accepted that.

Great video! Only thing I would suggest is to maybe incorporate more graphics. For instance when you take time to speak out a long list, if you had a Colbert Report style list somewhere on the screen it could help keep the viewers engaged.

Brian you need a podcast! Need an editor or assistant? I can help with that. To answer the blog I need to work on the skills and knowledge part as well as the positioning and differentiation. I am subscribed to the self learning philosophy through and through so thats no issue I just feel like there is still so much to learn and I get lost in the higher levels and forget to focus on the ones at the bottom. I try to mix at least one song a month, I do work a 40 hour day job to support my family, sometimes more depending. I have also been thinking about taking up nail the mix or from shit to gold but havent pulled the trigger bc I sit there and cant justify the cost bc I dont make any money from it! How do i fix that! As per usual I appreciate the videos and everything you do educationally and musically. If I can help in anyway i would be stoked to and from your response it seems you made need some haha

Awesome content Brian, but your dialog is choppy when you read the script. I notice your voice is much more smooth and commanding in the PPC videos. (Just an observation)
