    Peter wrote Solsbury Hill shortly after he had left Genesis in 1975, and the song had since then been interpreted as a way of getting better opportunities to express oneself artistically.
    as one of my favourite songs, Solsbury Hill is a piece of art that cheers me up and calms me down every time that i listen to it. it is a honour that my video, done when i was 13 years old, had reached one million views. i hope you all stay inspired, cheerful, and delighted every single day. thank you all very much

    My father died in a car accident 50 years ago on the 21st of December (last night as im writing this). I was 3 and my brother was 1. My mother heard the sirens as he was on 2 blocks from home, she was just 21. To honor this momentous anniversary we all said what we had on our hearts, privately and separated by time zones, my candle will remain lit for many days as that's what my inner being is telling me to do. I have always felt his presence around me my whole life, but I have never missed him more than this last past year and this rainy morning. I was led to this beautiful song out of seemingly nowhere, but I know it my father who wanted me to hear it and write a comment which I rarely do. Have the best 2022!

      I am moved by your story as this song reminds me of my sister, Joyce. She loved this song. We lost her in 1979 at the tender age of 29 years. She had complications in the 7th month of pregnancy and we lost them both suddenly one night. I will never forget answering the phone when my brother in law called from the hospital and asked for my dad I could tell something was wrong. I was 18 and we were very close for the age difference. She was the only one of my five sisters to get into Classic Rock the way me and my two brothers did. We were all younger by 2, 7 and 11 years and were all very close.
      Rest assured we will see our loved ones again. Meanwhile we have treasures like this song to remind us.

My dad died of cancer aged 48 (I was 23) and having been the steadfast, masculine, and stoic father figure, whilst in hospital admitted he was scared... This cracked me up. he died two days later alone at night. One day he will come to me and tell me to grab my stuff and he will take me home. If I were an actor and had to weep on demand I would recall my dad’s declaration of being scared.

    I absolutely love this song. The 7/4 time signature and pedal point are amazing musical touches, especially in pop music; but it's the lyrics that really speak. It conveys the feelings on breaking from the norm and stepping out to be yourself, whatever the risks, better than anything else I can think of, and is thus for me one of the coolest and bravest songs ever written.

      Once you say it, the |1 2 1 2 1 2 3 | 1 2 1 2 1 2 3 | highlighted by the bass drum (is it the bass? it's the lowest pitch hit in the pattern) is really clear.

    A song for those reaching thresholds. You gaze out of a door to see a new future. Your mind is the projector. You see what you project. Opportunity for those things you left behind making the decisions that brings you to this door. Opportunities for those things you did not experience taking the path that led you here. Something snaps you out of your comfort zone, and you go. Godspeed pilgrim!

    One of my all-time favorite songs. Classic. I've always believed it to be about his departure from Genesis. The feeling of freedom and liberation mixed with trepidation and uncertainty for what the future could bring.
    Like all great art, it's open for individual interpretation. For me, I equate it to my life experiences. I've lived in four states, once leaving a job of 11 years and the only place I'd ever lived to take a chance on something exciting, new and potentially better. I've been through a divorce, the loss of loved ones, etc.
    Each experience has been scary and exciting at the same time.

    This song has become a classic ballad. One of my favorites that has been analyized for its meaning by many fans.
    Is it Gabriel writting about an actual meeting with Christ atop Solsbury hill in England?
    Is it a spiritual awakening he had atop Solsbury hill in which he was questioning life and man's existence.
    Is it Gabriel writting about how do I breakway from Genesis who are my mates. How will I be recieved?
    Regardless its an amazing song that always puts me at peace with myself and God.

    Praying 🙏 for anyone reading this! The Lord speaks to me in different ways and recently, I believe He has put this song in my spirit! I kept hearing the chorus “grab your things I’ve come to take you home”.
    When I was 7, I was abused and needed help. Jesus was there for me. I remember staring at my wall trying to breathe when all of a sudden I heard behind me “life is a test”. I jumped around, but no one was there. I knew I would know when I got older what it meant. Later, that same year, my Great Grandfather passed away. I didn’t know what was happening, but I was in my bedroom and I began having a panic attack! I really thought I was going to die! All of a sudden, a calmness came over me and I was told “you don’t need to worry about dying”. I felt like He was speaking to my soul! I felt such love and compassion!
    When I got into high school, I was led by the Holy Spirit to forgive my stepdad and ask for forgiveness of my sins. Immediately, all my anger was gone! I felt like a weight had been lifted off my chest! Later that year, while walking to school, the Lord spoke to me “watch for the Mark of the Beast and the Tribulation” I would look around and see nothing. The last time I also heard, “It will happen when your around the age your grandmother was when she passed away”. I wondered when that was and I heard “53”. I just turned 54 in November 2023 and I know the Mark will be the digital wallet passed by the EU in October 2023.
    I never saw anything until 2020. I remember praying 🙏 to Jesus asking Him if we were already in the Tribulation. I fell asleep and when I woke up, I saw a video by Jonathan Cahn about 2 cows born in September 2014, 5 days apart with the number 7 on their foreheads! They represent 7 good years and 7 bad years just like Genesis 41! In the book of Jasher, chapter 50 verse 7 we learn the 7 good years in Genesis 41 started 2 years later! If you take 9/2014 + 2 years = 9/2016. That means our 7 good years began in September 2016 and ended in September 2023!
    I was raised Catholic and I prayed asking the Lord if I was saved because I was Catholic. He led me to Jonathan Kleck’s videos on RUclips and showed me that the Vatican is a snake! Audience Hall too! We don’t need religion! Religion doesn’t save only Jesus can! Seek Him now while He can be found! Read the Bible! The Great Reset is the Tribulation! We are all sinners in need of a savior! The penalty for sin is death! Just say thank you Jesus! God bless you and thank you for reading my testimony!
    The Gospel
    1st Corinthians 15:1-4
    1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
    2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
    3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
    4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

    This is truly a brilliant song, both lyrically and melodically. Although I'm aware that this is Gabriel's first solo single and that it is at least partially a way to express his feelings about his departure from Genesis, there are lines that are still a mystery and that's absolutely fine with me.
    Sometimes it's nice to have a little mystery about a song's lyrics, as you soak up the wonderful melody and instrumentation and simply enjoy the poetry of its words and get lost in the interesting images that those words conjure up in your mind's eye.

    The lyrics in the last verse are so much fun to sing! I don't ever contemplate the meaning of a song if it's too difficult and I don't care what this one's about. It's just a beautiful work of art.
