Bro I’m just wondering what do you use when improvising ? Appergios or scales ? Or both? If scales , what scales

Intuition from many years of playing. It is a combination of all you mentioned. With the scales, you can usually get away with just playing in the key of the tune in general (D minor in this case, F major being the relative key). To make it more interesting you can put in some accidentals (notes not in the key) when running up or down a scale and even create licks using these accidentals but it takes practice to use them tastefully and to create interesting lines doings so.
