there's also rentarou defying harem protag tropes by literally being an awesome boyfriend. Its why he's so popular in the community with the moniker 'chadtarou'.
@AVSystem-eh9qu I wonder how that'll work since the point is that they are possessive and usually want to be the only girlfriend but our king will make it work
@@AVSystem-eh9qu I have a feeling most would describe Meme as a yandere (atleast as close to a yandere as the series can get without killing everyone). Having a body pillow of your boyfriend aint normal.
The thing about each girlfriend is that they're a mix of an exaggeration of a stereotype, and an oddly-specific trait, they always will have some sort of unique case, which helps every one of them to be compatible with each other.
My favorite part of 100 GFs is that it is so chaotic that it needs multiple people to play the straight man. Karane isn’t enough with its ever-growing cast, and even characters like Hakari have to step in sometimes because it gets so crazy
Good video. All girls do have a thing where they take a trope to exaggerate it, but also then put a very unique twist on it that goes against the original concept. It is one of the reasons why people still care about new additions: all girls end up having very unique and likeable personalities

I get so excited whenever a new girl is introduced. And whenever we learn her name, the first thing i do is research on her name before even reading the chapter. Trying to figure out and guess what her character is gonna be like, this is what makes it so exciting for me with 100 girlfriends.
@@spikeytortle595 That entire chapter is a goldmine, not just because of the comedy (even the freaking toddler was a tsundere LMAO) but because it also sheds light into karane's life and the reason why she's how she is, and also gives more context in the reason why she went as far as trying to remove her tsundere persona just for rentarou
I came across this series way before it was adapted by some freak accident. Friend of mine sent me a link to the manga (which she hilariously doesn't remember doing) and my snap reaction was "This looks like wild garbage." Hoo boy, did my expectations get flipped on their head. I learned very quickly that this insane premise was being handled better than I ever could have thought. This series is genuinely the most fun I've had in a while. Glad you covered it!
i came across it a long while before the anime by an accident as well, and i'm quite glad for that. even if i probably would have started reading it after seeing the anime, its still just so good
It also adds a layer of realism. No human will just fit one troupe or kind of person. Each person is unique and different. And yes we contradict ourselves on many occasions. Like personally im a very out going person and love being around others but I have trouble talking to people or being able to keep friends. Everyone is unique and like the girls in the show makes them human or more real. I really enjoyed this video, thank you.
@@ganshrio7336 you know he didn't mean that , Infact he meant almost the opposite of that By his statement no one deserves a 100 girlfriends but if anyone does deserve it , it's rentaro And about not deserving anyone affection Actually you do deserve affection from other people (not strangers) for example every child deserves affection from his parents, Rentaro as a good boyfriend who goes all out for his girlfriends does deserve their affection. If you are in a situation where you are doing everything you can for a person but he shows you no affection , there something wrong with him😅
@@ganshrio7336 how do you misread that. yeah you don’t automatically owe people their love. realistically nobody should be forced to date 100 people or else they DIE. it’s just that rentaro is such a sweet guy that out of all people who could’ve been cursed, he was an amazing option. he truly loves all of his girlfriends
My personal way to check if a harem show is worth it is if I feel like I could actually fall in love with the mc. And Rentarou is an absolute chad, so hell yeah
I’m more interested in will make 100 unique girlfriends. 10? Easy. 20? Eh, little bit of thinking maybe but not hard. 50? That’s hard. 100? How? It’s very easy to just say “mix and match character tropes” but genuinely, even with that, doing it for a 100 people is hard, especially if every single one of them will be tied to 1 theme And then you gotta give everyone a satisfying amount of screen time which will objectively be hard to consistently achieve once you reach 60 and above
I Dont think a lot of fiction even have 100 characters above the lvl of side characters This is like 100 main characters GG author gonna have a lot of waifu crafting
He's the male version of bella swan. He is nothing outside of his magical mind controlled potatoes in the same manner bella is nothing outside of edward & jacob.
100 Girlfriends have quickly become one of my Favorite Rom/Harem Anime and one of its best strengths is the Clever Writing and the unique styles of Tropes as each one has more variations on their personalities than just One, looking forward for Season 2.
I love this anime because the protagonist isn't constantly used like a speedbag whenever there's a minor inconvenience that he caused. Like yeah, Karane has definitely gotten quite rough with Rentaro multiple times, but when she realizes she's wrong, she admits it and apologizes. Not to mention, she's one of the few Tsundere's I actually enjoy watching. That and the guys of the class don't immediately go fucking feral when the MC gets the girl. I never understood why that was even a thing, like what's the point?
Honestly, there needs to be an arc where people start to gossip about Rentarou down the line. There are too many girls on the roof with him. He hangs out with a crowd. Maybe the boys could get mad because Rentarou got half the school to date him. I don't know, there's both drama and comedy potential here.
@@enzoponce1881 I have?? I responded to a comment that was deleted. Either they did it RUclips did. That other person said there should be more lgbt characters which I disagreed with.
I like that Kusuri turns into her adult form fairly often and uses it to her advantage in situations as opposed to being a one time joke or that ability early on in the anime that gets forgotten for the sake of plot.
Correction: 'tsukkomi' isnt about telling the truth its more about pointing out absurdities. And tsunderes isnt so much about lying but more specifically lying about or hiding ones own feelings Tsundere and tsukkomi are two completely different things and are not mutually exclusive. In fact, a lot of tsundere characters do tend to be tsukkomi. Chitoge from nisekoi and nino from quintessential quintuplets are both tsundere and tsukkomi.

And in the manga nano and shizu have this cute relationship cause nano always finds shizu cute Even in that one chap where she and a "narcissist" trope gf point out a beauty in each of the girlfriends, in shizuku's turn she could only think of the cute things about her
100 girlfriends doesnt really defy character tropes. It says: you want character tropes? I'll give you more character tropes that go harder than anything you've ever seen Simply put, its a parody series, and every girl are parody characters. Just like how saitama gets so strong it becomes boring, or that shadow is so edgy that loops back to becoming cool again, all 100 girlfriends characters lean so hard into their character trope it loops around the globe and ends up on the opposite side. Whats more, each girl doesnt just have one trope. They each have 2-3 common gags and quirks that make them unique. This creates an environment where every girl has a 3 dimensional personality and isnt just 1 trope. For example, shizuka can only speak through her phone, but is also super light, and also super cute (when i say super i mean defying the laws of physics super). For some girls in the manga, the author just straight up created their own trope for them because why not. But the brilliance of 100 girlfriends lies in the interactions between the girls rather than the girls themselves Manga readers will know, but shizuka and nano's relationship becomes one of the best friendships i have ever seen. Of course the same thing goes for hakakara and tons and tons of more fun and wholesome interactions to come
I would argue that a trope looping around and ending up on the opposite side would be defying the trope But I completely agree on the best part being the character interactions. It's not just 100 girlfriends that really love Rentarou, it's 100 girlfriends and Rentarou loving each other
True the interactions are the best part. Defining the character tropes, no it just a parody of the tropes and does not change the meaning of trope. Using said trope for a different outcome from the norm is a different story. The Harlem protagonist where the the guy or girl is actual a good respectable person is really rare and would like to see more. I do think the main is just a few steps away from being that respectable person. I don’t like Harlem shows/anime’s but this one of the steps in the right direction.

As well-written as this analysis is, I can't not point out how you didn't mention Rentarou at all. My man is literally the greatest subversion of his character trope I've ever seen in my life and honest to God carries the entire fanbase. What do you think of when you picture a harem protagonist? The most stereotypical, generic dude who's likely an asshole and a pervert, but has girls falling over him anyway. Rentarou? Breaks every single one of those tropes. He actually pays attention to the girls, is invested in them as individuals, and actually builds a meaningful relationship with them without significantly changing his personality to the point where he seems like a totally different person. It's to the point where the polygamy MAKES SENSE and WORKS. You GET why these girls would fall for him, and how they could even do so without the help of the shrine. Not only that, but he's not a massive pervert. Hell, the trope is completely flipped because the GIRLS are more perverted than he is. He's literally just portrayed as a young, inexperienced but honest teen and it's mind-boggling. This show is so. Freaking. Good.
I'll be honest my guy, you just described every generic harem male protaginist ever. Ironically if he was a perv, he would somewhat break the mold cause I can only really think of 2 harem protags who are perveted(The MCs for highschool DxD and school days)
@@TheKeven28900 You have CLEARLY not watched enough harem animes, cause the trend is for the main guy to have girls falling for him for acts of chivalry like saving them, but they never actually get to know him before or afterwards and the guy is often clueless to the affection or worse, taking advantage of it. The girls are treated as flags to conquer and once the process is done and they're in love, onto the next. There's continuity in the love dynamic for 1000 girlfriends
This manga/anime is just ridiculous that I can't wait to watch and read it because of Chadtarou and his girlfriends. The interactions are funny and the references are ridiculous and each characters are unique and the dynamics. Props to author and also for giving a gigachad MC an opposite of any harem anime that I read or watch.
Fun Fact: Ancient Egyptian harems were WAY more intense than this remember, they are the same civilization to have also used air pressure from the mist in underground springs to experiment with propelling boats and blocks using them, my father believes that's how they constructed the Pyramids.
Do not feel bad if can’t remember all of them later, as of the manga, he has like 25ish, and I only remember like the initial 5 plus one or two extra, but each is well explored with mini chapters to show that each girl is their own character, more than loving the mc, but caring for each other
It defys character tropes and uses them at the same time which is GREAT, because karane is the BEST tsundere ever in anime. She actually apologizes when she gets rough with him unlike ALL other tsunderes
idk why I just saw this but very greatly put. This whole franchise has that gag feel to it, so it's often hilariously ridiculous as well, but I will always say that it's a very well-thought work, especially from the characters' personality, the characters' interactions, and surprisingly, how they tackle some serious, heartwarming issues at times (some references without giving away too much spoiler: karane's tsundere side (and the tsundere girls as a whole rlly), rin's (22nd gf) debut chapter, shizuka and her phone, etc etc. and my favorite part that's already appeared in the anime, nano's debut)
Honestly, i don't think the reason why every girl loves him so much because of the spell. I think rentarou just takes the time to know them and see them for who they are. and thats what every guy should do honestly. If your going to have a girl fall in love with you, you have to not judge they're looks, and just try learning about them by heart.
I suppose, though the mechanics of the whole soulmate thing is still puzzling to me sometimes. Cause there's the question of how much free will the girls have if at all into falling in love with him in the first place. And considering that the whole thing started as a mistake on God's part. Makes it a bit awkward if you ask me.
I really, really, really, really, REALLY love this video. My friends think this Anime is just another harem romance type, but now I can proudly present this video to them lol Thanks a lot🔥
My predictions on what would happen (future gfs) -someone commits a crime and he zings with a policewoman that’s scared of criminals -he breaks his body and zings with a strong nurse who cannot control her strength - someones granma (imma bet its going to be a lolibaba, a loli granma -his stepsister he never saw -his own mother who just got cured from blindness -idk, a drug criminal at this point seems to be possible
As any well written character; they are not just a thrope; these thropes are just molds where their characteristics align. If you want a full character, they need an arc, to make a character arc out of thrope, you need to break the mold of the thrope, they need to evolve beyond that, while also keeping true to themselves as a character, they need to evolve in a logic way. Basically this series is not just an harem or a comedy. It's actually introducing characters constantly and giving them their time to shine and develop them as main characters while mantaining them relevant as secondary characters when new ones are introduced. They feel like genuine people, and nor just fanservice or gags. It's actually quite impressive. Specially Rentarou itself I think is an amazing protagonist for an anime like this; he is relatable in the way that he is a total goof and just a normal guy, but he is good hearthed and absolutely does care about every single one of their soulmates and works superhard to make them happy, so it never feels unfair or that their love is undeserved.
It's kinda like Sierra Burgess is a Loser or Tall-Girl. You think its great cause your desencitized to trash. But duh: to support kimi no koto is to support oversexualization of minors on a conceptual level. You are going to the vote-booth and vote for the industry too drop all pretense that fanserivice shall never use minors
Also I got to say. They all of some good chemistry with each other. Most harem anime’s struggle to keep the balance between all of the characters of how they interact. And a lot of the girls in “ 100 girlfriends” are capable to be funny and serious.
I really want to see how they would handle another yandree in the group. I say another because Rentaro is definitely a yandree and chapter 164 is my proof.
The actual reason for Shizuka saying stuff like "Brother" and "Bossman" is because she is trying to act like a delinquent since they are breaking into a house.
i can go even a step further, because this anime literally defies the point of most romcoms just the sheer idea that theyre already dating from episode 1 Like, there isnt some grandius show of how he gets the girl, they love each other from episode one and the show has more priority in developing them as characters than the romance, theres like entire manga chapters with the girls just hanging out and looking more like theyre a couple than with rentaro, theres also that rentaro is quite literally the opposite of most harem protagonist by, first, not being a weirdo who wants a harem in a perverted way, second, being literally the most fucking awesome boyfriend in the world and actually understanding that a polyamorus relationship is a multiple way street, and third and most important, rentaro is absolutely NOT obvlibious, he totally knows they love her and he loves them and is absolutely ready do anything he needs to do for their love, but he is also fully resolved to accept if someone is uncomfortable with the group, the manga tries to be a comedy first, a character driven story about sharing common grounds with people that are very different from you, and only at the end is a romance manga
The rentarou family is one of the best best groups/found families in anime/manga. If anyone is curious about the manga i can not suggest it enough. I decided to read it purely out of curiosity after watching the show for the first time 3 weeks ago and i ended up reading the entire thing uo to current within 3 days. I could not put it down. The sheer absurdity of the premise mixed with the genious comedy writing and the genuinely heart felt romance and then you add ontop some the best character writing ever. Its a joy to read and the art is top notch. And the fun of watching as the family grows and evolves with clicks forming between similar personality types and quickly you find yourself not just invested in the romance of rentarou and the girlfriends. But the friendships between the girlfriends themselves watching them deal with there own issues separate from rentarou. Actually going multiple chapters with rentarou either being basically a side/background character or just straight up not being there. I would put the constantly expanding and shifting dynamics of the rentarou family uo against the most loved groups in anime. Wheather it be other extremely loved harems. Like quintessential quintuplets. Or even the strawhat pirates.
They doesn't break their character role You just looking thier characters outside thier love life Outside thier love life their personality changes But thier character trope is defining their love life while they can be opposite in normal episodes (And mc trying to change them to be honest with thier feelings thats that)
I typically avoid harem anime like the plague but decided to watch this one from a recommendation of a friend. I had the BEST time enjoying the chaos and character growth UNTIL the plot twist. The scream I scrumpt when it happened. I thoroughly enjoyed the series and then felt immense betrayal after that moment. The age gap was too wide for me to accept.😅
Yeah, I was kinda weirded out by why the heck did God give protag boy the mother of one of his girlfriends as one of his other soulmates. Because can you imagine what this would look like in the real world, regardless of soulmates etc. the mom bans her daughter from being with her soulmate, then asks out said 15 year old boy? If it weren’t for the fact that this is fiction and actually quite cute I’d have the mom looked into ngl
If you think about it, Rentarou as a character had so much going for him the moment his friend described his great personality in the first chapter. If you compare to other romcom protagonists you just notice how much Rentarou stands out. Makes you think that maybe it isn't such a good idea to have the typical self insert mc's in romcom anymore
Rentarou and Kimihito from the Monster Musume anime are my fav respectful chad MCs. Especially that MM has in-world monstergirl racism and he goes out of his way to protect the girls, make them feel accepted, have their needs catered to and he even punches the lowlifes being mean to Mia. (Also Monster girl doctor was made by the author of the MM anime and also has a protag that is very caring to monstergirls).
And it’s also worth mentioning that the manga already has 25+ girlfriends that are completely fleshed out and expand upon their initial gimmicks or tropes. Really goes to show how dedicated and talented the author really is.
I love how you just glossed over the age difference and that one scene that shows them rolling in the hey. I mean they didn’t explicitly show it but you knew what they were doing. And that is hilarious to me.
one of the funniest things i think about shizuka's trope that's introduced in the manga is that she's kinda...freaky. probably even closer to hakari than you'd think in terms of her love for rentarou.
Karane works in this mainly because of Hakari. With most MC/Tsundere relationships there's a long stall in progression because the tsundere essentially sets the pace of progress. Which can become a pace that makes glaciers look fast. Karane however is more like a Nascar in a heated duel with another car. That being Hakari. Because Hakari is fine with gunning the relationship along to being openly expressive about her feelings, both verbally and physically, it forces Karane to be more open about her feelings and battling her trope. Otherwise Hakari will get just take off ahead of her.
This is the most weird, shock and wholesome show i ever watch/read Tbh even h*ntai or revenge manga, anime cant even make me surprise more than this manga And i love the show But hakari is a megadere
I think it's also worthwile to point out that the whole show could be understood as a defiance of tropes. I mean... the show is literary called 100 girlfriends, it SOUNDS like some super cookie cutter harem where women are treated as fantasy pieces and tropies for otaku to lust over rather then full fledge people and characters and I personally don't think that's accidental, I think that is the target audience, at least partially. The author is like "yeah it's cool when the girl is a love struct cutesy, but wouldn't it also be cool if she was a human on top of that?" what I really like is it's not only defiance of tropes and showing more fully fledge characters, but also embracing them at same time. Like yeah, it's fine to have characters like that, but you can also give them more depth. I think this is also true in real life because we all are stereotypes and tropes on some levels, but we are not defined by that and we also go much deeper then that, and I think that this wasn't accidental on the authors part and he wanted to show people who might isolate themselves from real experiences and indulge in fantasies of most harem manga/anime that "actually, the real deal can be even better and here's why" or I am reading way too much into a well written harem anime, that's also possible.
It is kind of embarrassing but after being inspired by Chadtaro, I have also taken up a "mission" of myself for as long as this manga runs, and that is remembering the full name of each of the 100 girlfriends that are intrroduced in the manga, in chronological order and one day be able to simply answer to the question "Who was the 13th girlfriend" with Nadeshiko without getting confused at all (no i did not need to look it up, i have the current roster memorized, but I did need to go "13 so after 12 which was chiyo so uhhh Miss Naddy!" which gets really messy beyond 16 except for Momoha my beloved who's 21) Anyway, at the cost of getting into spoiler territories, here are all the 28 girlfriends so far introduced in the manga 1 - Inda Karane & Hanazono Hakari 3 - Yoshimoto Shizuka 4 - Eiai Nano 5 - Yakuzen Kusuri 6 - Hanazono Hahari 7 - Harage Kurumi 8 - Meido Mei 9 - Sutou Iku 10 - Utsukushisugi Mimimi 11 - Kakure Meme 12 - Iin Chiyo 13 - Yamato Nadeshiko (Miss Naddy) 14 - Yasashiki Yamame 15 - Momi Momiji (Like Nobi Nobita) 16 - Yakuzen Yaku 17 - Torotoro Kishika 18 - Kedurai Asahi (Ahko) 19 - Uto (forgot her last name) 20 - Meido Mai 21 - Bonnouji Momoha 22 - Baio Rin 23 - Hifumi Suu 24 - Kaho Erai 25 - Tama (her last name is eluding me, she's just so Tama) 26 - Saiki Himeka (Kiki) 27 - Dei Matsuri 28 - Usami Shiina (Usa-chan)
I totally agree with the whole premise of the video. As someone who is probably in the 1% of male anime/manga enjoyers, romance and romcoms are my favorite genre lol. I'd say like 90% of what I watch or read is romance be it shonen ai, shoujo ai, or romcoms and this series is *WAY* up there near the top of my favorites. The way it takes tropes and your expectations of them and uses that familiarity to then throw it on its head is masterful, especially after giving you such a rediculous premise. The comedy is masterful (especially the English dub holy shit), the fanservice actually adds to the story, and the emotional beats hit. With how insane of the whiplash it gives between all the emotions it kind of reminds me of if DanDaDan was more romance based instead of Turbo Granny yokai and aliens trying to steal your shlong 😂😂
Okay, so I fully agree with your point on them not being just a character trope and defying those expectations. And that continues beyond what the anime shows (so far). But there are some points I disagree with. While Hakari is often considered a deredere, I'd say it's far more accurate to say she's an erodere. As the name implies, an erodere is all about sexual advances. But even so, Hakari does defy this trope. An erodere is all lustful and sexual... Until their desires are confronted. They try seducing their love interest, but if ever they start to think or worry the one they love will actually act on their advances, they become shy. And this is where Hakari breaks the trope. Because she doesn't. Whenever events make it seem like Rentarou could act on her advances (which he never does, of course), she doesn't back down and suddenly become all shy and innocent. If anything, she gets more active. And she doesn't really hide it either, she flaunts her desires almost as much as she flaunts her assets. The other way she defies her trope as an erodere is by having serious moments where she could try to make advances, but she doesn't. The best example of this is even acknowledged by Karane near the end of the first season. After everything with her mother Hahari passes, the whole group has a sleepover and ends up sleeping all in a group. And Hakari gets up when everyone else seems to be asleep to move closer to Rentarou. Karane is prepared to stop her from her usual perverted acts, but Hakari just wants to cuddle close to Rentarou, needing some innocent comforting and affection after everything that happened. Rentarou also defies his trope as the harem protagonist. I've seen others point this out in the comments as well, but unlike a normal harem protagonist, Rentarou is never blind to the affections of a soulmate. This is partly because of the whole soulmate zing that happens, but he's also just that attentive and aware, always knowing things like how much Karane (and later, other tsunderes) loves him or that Nano cares more than she shows or that Kusuri means well or that Hakari's lust isn't just for show. And, unlike most harem protagonists, he's completely wholesome about his love for them, refusing anything sexual, at least for now (he has admitted that he plans to marry and have kids with all of them). And, finally, he doesn't just stumble into romance. Most harem protagonists get girls just by existing, but while he does have the advantage of the soulmate stuff, Rentarou actually tries hard, putting in work to get all of his soulmates to want to be with him and to make them happy as much as possible. The last thing I want to say is that the series is very good at setting up what trope a character fits into using name puns, and there is no better example than Inda Karane, whose name quite literally comes from the tsundere catchphrase "it's not like I did it for you or anything", "betsu ni anta no tame ni yattanain dakarane". Just about everything about the characters says exactly what tropes they are, from their stereotypical looks to their names, even before you see how they act, telling you exactly what to expect before breaking out of the boundaries of those tropes.
there's also rentarou defying harem protag tropes by literally being an awesome boyfriend. Its why he's so popular in the community with the moniker 'chadtarou'.

Karanes entire family tree is full of tsunderes 😭😭😭
@@spikeytortle595 That entire chapter is a goldmine, not just because of the comedy (even the freaking toddler was a tsundere LMAO) but because it also sheds light into karane's life and the reason why she's how she is, and also gives more context in the reason why she went as far as trying to remove her tsundere persona just for rentarou

Generational tsundere trauma 😭
I came across this series way before it was adapted by some freak accident. Friend of mine sent me a link to the manga (which she hilariously doesn't remember doing) and my snap reaction was "This looks like wild garbage." Hoo boy, did my expectations get flipped on their head. I learned very quickly that this insane premise was being handled better than I ever could have thought. This series is genuinely the most fun I've had in a while. Glad you covered it!
It's so impressive how well they've executed such a batshit premise, honestly some of the most fun I've had reading
i came across it a long while before the anime by an accident as well, and i'm quite glad for that. even if i probably would have started reading it after seeing the anime, its still just so good
It also adds a layer of realism.
Exactly, there's always more than meets the eye it comes to meeting new people!
Funny you say that a 29 year old is dating an 16 year old when rentarou also dates a grandmother

He can't really do anything about it or they'll die.
What an incel thing to say. Nobody "deserves" the affection of another.
@@ganshrio7336 you know he didn't mean that , Infact he meant almost the opposite of that
By his statement no one deserves a 100 girlfriends but if anyone does deserve it , it's rentaro
And about not deserving anyone affection
Actually you do deserve affection from other people (not strangers) for example every child deserves affection from his parents,
Rentaro as a good boyfriend who goes all out for his girlfriends does deserve their affection.
@@ganshrio7336 By that logic, you don't "deserve" the affection of anyone (friends, peers, strangers, parents, relatives and etc.)
My personal way to check if a harem show is worth it is if I feel like I could actually fall in love with the mc. And Rentarou is an absolute chad, so hell yeah
I agree, if the MC is a person, I could see myself being a cool person to hang out with. Then I could accept some ladies to take interest in them.
I’m more interested in will make 100 unique girlfriends.
10? Easy. 20? Eh, little bit of thinking maybe but not hard. 50? That’s hard. 100? How? It’s very easy to just say “mix and match character tropes” but genuinely, even with that, doing it for a 100 people is hard, especially if every single one of them will be tied to 1 theme
And then you gotta give everyone a satisfying amount of screen time which will objectively be hard to consistently achieve once you reach 60 and above
I Dont think a lot of fiction even have 100 characters above the lvl of side characters

Very low standards bruh.
your favorite romance anime has pedophilia in it??
I love this anime because the protagonist isn't constantly used like a speedbag whenever there's a minor inconvenience that he caused. Like yeah, Karane has definitely gotten quite rough with Rentaro multiple times, but when she realizes she's wrong, she admits it and apologizes. Not to mention, she's one of the few Tsundere's I actually enjoy watching. That and the guys of the class don't immediately go fucking feral when the MC gets the girl. I never understood why that was even a thing, like what's the point?
People like attitude sometimes, and others write it poorly.
Honestly, there needs to be an arc where people start to gossip about Rentarou down the line. There are too many girls on the roof with him. He hangs out with a crowd. Maybe the boys could get mad because Rentarou got half the school to date him. I don't know, there's both drama and comedy potential here.

Correction: 'tsukkomi' isnt about telling the truth its more about pointing out absurdities. And tsunderes isnt so much about lying but more specifically lying about or hiding ones own feelings
Tsundere and tsukkomi are two completely different things and are not mutually exclusive. In fact, a lot of tsundere characters do tend to be tsukkomi. Chitoge from nisekoi and nino from quintessential quintuplets are both tsundere and tsukkomi.

And in the manga nano and shizu have this cute relationship cause nano always finds shizu cute
Even in that one chap where she and a "narcissist" trope gf point out a beauty in each of the girlfriends, in shizuku's turn she could only think of the cute things about her
100 girlfriends doesnt really defy character tropes.
It says: you want character tropes? I'll give you more character tropes that go harder than anything you've ever seen
Simply put, its a parody series, and every girl are parody characters.
But the brilliance of 100 girlfriends lies in the interactions between the girls rather than the girls themselves
Manga readers will know, but shizuka and nano's relationship becomes one of the best friendships i have ever seen. Of course the same thing goes for hakakara and tons and tons of more fun and wholesome interactions to come
I would argue that a trope looping around and ending up on the opposite side would be defying the trope
But I completely agree on the best part being the character interactions.

Freaking. Good.
Sorry for not praising the goat more

@@TheKeven28900 You have CLEARLY not watched enough harem animes, cause the trend is for the main guy to have girls falling for him for acts of chivalry like saving them, but they never actually get to know him before or afterwards and the guy is often clueless to the affection or worse, taking advantage of it. The girls are treated as flags to conquer and once the process is done and they're in love, onto the next. There's continuity in the love dynamic for 1000 girlfriends

Do not feel bad if can’t remember all of them later, as of the manga, he has like 25ish, and I only remember like the initial 5 plus one or two extra, but each is well explored with mini chapters to show that each girl is their own character, more than loving the mc, but caring for each other
100 Girlfriends shows how to correctly subvert expectations
Rentaro should be up there with the most loyal and loving anime character he defys the harem protag trope
It defys character tropes and uses them at the same time which is GREAT, because karane is the BEST tsundere ever in anime. She actually apologizes when she gets rough with him unlike ALL other tsunderes
8:23, I have heard many loud silences, but this one by far was the loudest
idk why I just saw this but very greatly put.

Just finished watching it, mainly because of this video. Thank you for the reccomendation. Had a blast watching it.
Glad you enjoyed!

Maybe the real 100 girlfriends were the friends we made along the way
The actual reason for Shizuka saying stuff like "Brother" and "Bossman" is because she is trying to act like a delinquent since they are breaking into a house.

btw during the chapter that rentarou introduces his 24th girlfriend to the rest of the rentarou family, kusuri gives her a chemical weapon as a gift
i can go even a step further, because this anime literally defies the point of most romcoms just the sheer idea that theyre already dating from episode 1
Like, there isnt some grandius show of how he gets the girl, they love each other from episode one and the show has more priority in developing them as characters than the romance, theres like entire manga chapters with the girls just hanging out and looking more like theyre a couple than with rentaro, theres also that rentaro is quite literally the opposite of most harem protagonist by, first, not being a weirdo who wants a harem in a perverted way, second, being literally the most fucking awesome boyfriend in the world and actually understanding that a polyamorus relationship is a multiple way street, and third and most important, rentaro is absolutely NOT obvlibious, he totally knows they love her and he loves them and is absolutely ready do anything he needs to do for their love, but he is also fully resolved to accept if someone is uncomfortable with the group, the manga tries to be a comedy first, a character driven story about sharing common grounds with people that are very different from you, and only at the end is a romance manga
They doesn't break their character role
You just looking thier characters outside thier love life
Outside thier love life their personality changes
But thier character trope is defining their love life while they can be opposite in normal episodes
(And mc trying to change them to be honest with thier feelings thats that)
I typically avoid harem anime like the plague but decided to watch this one from a recommendation of a friend. I had the BEST time enjoying the chaos and character growth UNTIL the plot twist. The scream I scrumpt when it happened. I thoroughly enjoyed the series and then felt immense betrayal after that moment. The age gap was too wide for me to accept.😅
Definitely top 5 best anime in history you can't change my mind
Kisuri sounds more like a “mad-scientist” type.
I agree, the photo burning scene, as well as the entire Nano date, is my favorites and as a writer I am jealous I didn't write it.
As a harem hater and someone who has not watched 100 girlfriends, i have a feeling like this harem anime done right.
" E L A N I M É I M P O S I -

As of the end of 2024 there are 31 GFs
Brooo I can't wait for more of this anime man hahahhaahha
Karane works in this mainly because of Hakari.
With most MC/Tsundere relationships there's a long stall in progression because the tsundere essentially sets the pace of progress. Which can become a pace that makes glaciers look fast.
Karane however is more like a Nascar in a heated duel with another car. That being Hakari. Because Hakari is fine with gunning the relationship along to being openly expressive about her feelings, both verbally and physically, it forces Karane to be more open about her feelings and battling her trope. Otherwise Hakari will get just take off ahead of her.

Not saying Hakari is Derederederederedere is a missed opportunity. Gotta have the 5 loves.
The author is like "yeah it's cool when the girl is a love struct cutesy, but wouldn't it also be cool if she was a human on top of that?"
what I really like is it's not only defiance of tropes and showing more fully fledge characters, but also embracing them at same time. Like yeah, it's fine to have characters like that, but you can also give them more depth. I think this is also true in real life because we all are stereotypes and tropes on some levels, but we are not defined by that and we also go much deeper then that, and I think that this wasn't accidental on the authors part and he wanted to show people who might isolate themselves from real experiences and indulge in fantasies of most harem manga/anime that "actually, the real deal can be even better and here's why"
or I am reading way too much into a well written harem anime, that's also possible.
It is kind of embarrassing but after being inspired by Chadtaro, I have also taken up a "mission" of myself for as long as this manga runs, and that is remembering the full name of each of the 100 girlfriends that are intrroduced in the manga, in chronological order and one day be able to simply answer to the question "Who was the 13th girlfriend" with Nadeshiko without getting confused at all (no i did not need to look it up, i have the current roster memorized, but I did need to go "13 so after 12 which was chiyo so uhhh Miss Naddy!" which gets really messy beyond 16 except for Momoha my beloved who's 21)

Good thing i clicked the video. You just got me to watch it.
I've never heard of an erodere until today, and yeah looking it up, Hakari definitely fits that one more. You learn something new everyday
" I suddenly had to urge to blast a piss! I was simply digging around for the perfect spot."
Yeah you should watch this anime.
