    Here is DEWALT's response:
Question from us: The Atomic DCF850 does not list "enhanced parts" as the XR impacts do. Does this mean Atomic is cheaper built than XR? The 850 is XR in the UK. Does that mean they got a better version? Please clarify this page for us-support.dewalt.com/hc/en-us/articles/360058242431-What-is-the-difference-between-MAX-XR-and-ATOMIC- Thank you. Alex toolrev.com
Here is the response and the reason I usually don't bother asking them anything -
    Hello Alex,
    Thank you for contacting DEWALT®
I'll be happy to assist you!
Actually, Our 20V ATOMIC tools are designed to be more compact than the XR tools. But it does not mean that one of them will be less powerful. For example, the atomic impact model DCF850 and XR impact DCF887 both are 1/4 impact 3-speed drivers with 1825 ft-lbs max torque and 3250 BPM; the difference is the length of the head.
On the following link, you can look at the reference:

In case you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. And I would be more than happy to assist you.
Hope you and your loved ones have a great day, Alex!

DeWALTs reply and website are wrong, they both say 1825 ft-lbs max torque, you correctly say Inch Pounds.

One of the specs that is missing is how many joules of energy the impact imparts. The different sizes could indicate that the mass of the impact weight is different or that mechanism could be different somehow. Perhaps a longer stroke.

The XR is hands down a better product. I install garage doors so my drill gets a lot of use. Hardwaring large doors definitely puts the drill to work. I found the atomic would cut out if I was pressing hard on the drill, I returned it because I thought it was a defect but the new replacement atomic did the same. The XRs can handle however much pressure i put on the drill without cutting out. I still keep an atomic with me though for those tight spaces. Anyways , great video man!

Bought one to try with my 850, while I rebuild and rebuild and degrease my 887 but also do garage doors and now the beating impacts take it’s unreal!

Right tool for the right job, bud. Maybe that drill was meant for the work you were doing I have and have had numerous Atomic product. All with great success.

Such a helpful video. I never really noticed how much fatter the 850 is than the 845.
I was set on getting the stubby 850 but I realized I often find I don’t need a shorter drill I need a thinner one

Presumably the XR tools would last longer since it is larger, more heat dissipation and stronger physical parts due to them being larger.

i have an 887 for home diy.. in fact ie just built a 6mx6m timber framed workshop and it has done everything without missing a beat. at least 3000 screws so far. ive been curious about upgrading for months now since it is several years old, but i feel the reality is that i just dont need to. it is a solid workhorse, no issues ever, and just like any tool you may occasionally find its too big for a space youre using it in but i cant blame the tool for that.. nor can i justify spending more for a different size tool unless i was in those different spaces all the time (i am not). the 845 looks to be more aggressive in speed and impacts per min so im swaying towards that next... but no rush!

@@ribbitism nice, I've bought a 887 in a XR full kit. Do you use mode 1 or 887 or only mode 2 ? And do you push trigget at maximum or you're manage it for control?

I haven't tried 845, because it seems like they only sell 840 in Europe. It doesn't appeal to me at all. Stubby is better than slim!
