I never understood "concurrent sentences." If I walked into a bakery and ordered a cake and a muffin, and asked the cashier if I could use the money I already paid for the cake to also be used for the muffin, they would laugh at me.
It serves a purpose in some ways. Example if someone committed credit card fraud at 5 places at 500 dollars each and the minimum sentence was 5 years for grand theft. He would have 5 counts at 5 years for 25 years. However another person does credit card fraud for 5000 at 1 place only getting 1 count of grand theft gets the same 5 years. The person who stole more money would get a less sentence if concurrent didn't exist.
I would like to add that the same money can be used multiple times. I have paid a credit card to lower it's balance and then take the money back out and paid another credit card. So in essence it IS possible to use the same currency to pay for multiple things.

@@mongoose406 Pay attention to the video my guy. It says he won't even be eligible to apply for parole until 20 years served.

20 years, that’s it? For killing!?
I remember watching videos of this kid taunting the police and smirking how he'll get off once he was caught. All of this after he had already killed an innocent woman. Somehow 20 years doesn't feel long enough.
He'll likely not make parol, he got 40 years, not 20.
So why even bother with Second sentence? You just told the victim they don't matter
Because when they APPLY for parole in 20 years, it will look a lot worse for them, there will be more victims and victims' families to account for, and the chance of the APPLICATION being granted by the parole board will be less.
Wow he’ll get out and still be young enough to cause more problems and harm.
I hope they deny his parole every time...lets see how tough he'll be in prison. RIP to the victim 🙏🙏
He joining a gang out the gate, he’ll be fine
They keep sending us their best.
He won't last they going to turn him out
Concurrent sentences effectively acquit the offender of all the shorter sentence crimes . They should at least negate any parole eligibility.
It does have the effect of reducing the likelihood of parole.
How can anyone serve concurrent sentences unless there's more than one of him? What legal chicanery is this? Why do they insist on inflicting danger and mayhem on the public again rather than PUNISHING them? You cannot rehabilitate a soulless cretin.
why not 99 years? why do these murderers get chances at parole? why are his 2 sentences get to be served concurrently? he still makes a mockery of justice as he'll most likely be out in 20 years.
I actually find this sentencing a joke. Fact this was not 99 years automatically is disgusting.
How many murder cases for a 17 year old get 99 years?
I'm not paying for that
He got 20 for giving up and pleading guilty. If he fought it, it would have been a life sentence.
NO sentences should be concurrent.
What happened to the death penalty?
Apparently its "inhumane" unlike what criminals do.
Not enough cash flow with the death penalty
It was not a death penalty case and secondly the US Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional for a death sentence for a person who was under 18 at the time of the crime.
@aztecwhistle9122 lol as if they make cash.

The sentences should be served consecutively, not concurrently. If he gets out, even after 20 years, he will be a threat to society.

given this guys attitude, nature of the attack and likelihood to reoffend, how is he getting parole in 20 year. Serious slap in the face to the victims.
He should have gotten 3 back-to-back life sentences: 1 for 1st degree murder, 1 for escaping, and 1 for taunting police.

Slap on the hand
40 years and 20 years running concurrently means he will spend at least 40 years in prison. So he would be around 68 years old at the earliest when he got out of prison.
@@Oblivisci........ 17 years old + 40 years in prison = 57 years old
A 40 year sentence is not a "slap on the hand."
I think the taunting is the least of the crimes, if I'm not mistaken
Remember the teachers who have these lovelies every single day.
He should never be paroled after a callous murder.
I was surprised to see his dad in court. Or wait, that was just the lawyer….
I'm sure there are activists right now drawing up plans to get him out 20 years early.
Who? Who would want this loser out? You have to be a complete idiot🤷🏻♂️

Maybe if he was darker. Mexicans dont have rich athletes and rappers bailing them out their problems like the 13%ers

I blame the parents. Some people shouldn’t be allowed to have children.
Some? Most, I say. Especially in this craptacular country.
Parents ? It’s a lot of parents that raise their children to do what’s right and yet they choose the wrong path. He is to blame and no one else .
He should’ve got life in prison !!!
This amounts to little more than a slap on the wrist. Honestly, he took one life and injured the second victim and this is the best they can do? Why are the sentences being served concurrently? Does the judge really believe that a "lifetime ban on gun possession" is going to stop this creature from obtaining an illegal weapon when he does get out of jail? Somehow, I think that's the first thing he's going to do with his freedom...arm himself and commit new crimes.
San Antonio votes Democrat, so there's your answer.
What planet are you from? Do you not know how laws work? This isn’t Judge Dredd 🤦♂️
@@kommisar. It's very sad.
@@DirtyDirkDiggler I don't know who Judge Dredd is...sounds like a character in a bad sci-fi movie. I do know, however, that the sentence did NOT fit the crimes. End of conversation.
He was underage among other things. Many factors. I don't think he's laughing all the way to jail.
I never understood "concurrent sentences." If I walked into a bakery and ordered a cake and a muffin, and asked the cashier if I could use the money I already paid for the cake to also be used for the muffin, they would laugh at me.
That might be the strangest analogy that I have ever heard.
Excellent analogy
It serves a purpose in some ways. Example if someone committed credit card fraud at 5 places at 500 dollars each and the minimum sentence was 5 years for grand theft. He would have 5 counts at 5 years for 25 years. However another person does credit card fraud for 5000 at 1 place only getting 1 count of grand theft gets the same 5 years. The person who stole more money would get a less sentence if concurrent didn't exist.
time spent in prison isn't currency
I would like to add that the same money can be used multiple times. I have paid a credit card to lower it's balance and then take the money back out and paid another credit card. So in essence it IS possible to use the same currency to pay for multiple things.
If you cannot trust a citizen to own a gun legally, they should not be let out of prison at all. Either they served their time and are no longer a threat to society or they are still a threat and should remain in prison.
Well in a way, he did get away with severe consequences. 20 years is nothing in a murder case. Shame on that judge.
Get more for having not selling illegal drugs.
He got 40 years, if you are paying attention. He is ELIGIBLE to APPLY for parole after 1/2 the sentence is completed.
60 years, plus 20 years to be served concurrently. oh, btw..... you'll be eligible for parole after 20 years. I hate our 'judicial' system. Never thinking of the victims or their families.
It was 40 plus 20, but you're right to hate the system. Concurrent sentences is a free pass on the shorter sentence.

The US needs to follow the justice system of China. You should see what they do to people like this...
Based on the brief details shown here:
- He premeditated the deletion of someone
- went to that person's "home."
- he actually arrived to the wrong address
- recklessly deleted one person and injured another at the wrong address
- he receives concurrent sentences, and this brings it down to 20 years
He sought to delete someone (strike one), went to the wrong home (strike two), and mayhem ensued where the value of an innocent life deleted (strike three) only equates to this: 20 years.
Makes sense (sarcasm).
He received a 40 year sentence, not 20.
He is eligible to go in front of a parole board 20 years from now.
And while the point is well taken, there is no premeditated crime in Texas.
20 years to be on parole? Man these judges are getting super soft 🤦♂️
The judge looks like him. An endless stream of the best.
Concurrent sentence is like spending the same 10 dollars to buy 100 pizzas. Doesn't make sense. If you spent the 10 dollars on a small pizza, you can't use the same money to buy a different pizza
So the victim received a life sentence, and this coward will be eligible for parole in 20-years? All we need now is for the judge, prosecutor, and defense lawyer to go spit and dance on the victim's grave.
Can he be deported?
And not one ounce of remorse on his face, disgusting sentence.
Now taxpayers are paying for his food for the next 40 years..
That is true, but don't tell the rocket scientists that want to keep him in jail until he dies of old age at 102.
