Old school back up technique. Not good for detecting persons or objects coming from the left, out of your peripheral vision, or keeping an eye on where the front of your car is swinging in case something crosses your path, though. Best to use your 3 mirrors and look left, right and forward as well. Also utilize backup camera if you have one. That’s looking in 6-7 spots instead of 1. Akin to a 360 degree view. Not to mention it’s not as easy with today’s bucket seats and large head rests as it used to be with the bench seat design of older cars.
It's useful under a very large number of situations not just a singular situation. And the underlying principle of what they are saying can be applied to any car, you just have to find your equivalent marker spot on your car and blind spot on your mirror, but the technique is still valid.
This works with most cars. It worked for our old big Volvo or my former VW Polo back then, the Smart or now with my Audi and also with the big Mercedes. I can’t speak for big transporters but I think it works for most normal cars.
I literally back in everywhere and never have a problem. I find it, in terms of difficulty a 3 compared to 1, and parking normally, however, it makes leaving a 1 all the time
Yea indeed , same in most other European countries… thing is, in the past at least, US license tests were not much of a challenge, so not surprise people need tutorials
For my son’s driving test, the officer had him drive around the perimeter of the parking lot, and then park the car in the space in which he was initially parked. Took less than five minutes. I couldn’t believe it. Pitiful. A hundred years ago, when I was testing, I had to drive all over the city, and parallel park. It wasn’t a difficult test, but, at least I took the car out of the parking lot. 😂
UK too....plus if you can't do this, as it's much easier than parallel parallel parking, you're not a good driver. Plus you should only turn the wheel when the car is moving otherwise it's going to wear the tyres
Not all parking lots have the same parking space dimensions. Video is a good rule of thumb, but always pull in forward when you can. Full lots tend to empty out later in the day. Never back in when you can pull in straight.
That’s all well and good. I was always told not to turn steering wheel, when stationary. As it causes extra wear on the front tyres. As a Tesla is much heavier than a regular car. I thought it would be worse on one of them.
wing it. literally. use only the wing mirrors when aligning, at the end use rear view. if you wanna be on the safe side, hop out and gauge a distance by searching visual points in the environment.
This parking method has interfered the traffic🚙 on the other side of road. ⚠ Alternative parking method: 🚗 (1) Align the rear wheel with the parking space line, (2) then reverse the car while gradually turning the steering wheel full to the right. (3) Straighten the steering wheel when the car is parallel to the parking space line. 😎🏁
I always back into parking spaces because accidents only happen when you're backing out of blind areas and that's when people drive over their kids or their neighbor's kids or their kids bikes or their pets. Never pull into a parking space frontwards. Only back into parking spaces and you'll save yourself a lot of grief over a lifetime.
I work for a company that makes a component for rear alarm and visual system. We always say that we are keeping people safe as you can see and new motion system alarms to prevent this.
Try doing this in a U.K. car park where the spaces are narrower and there is no ground bumper. That is a skill we have to learn. Thanks to my Husband teaching me I can reverse without a problem but seeing some people you wonder how they ever passed their driving test.
This will work for most compact and midsize cars, but not for larger SUVs and trucks, which are what most people drive today. A couple factors that will change this maneuver... vehicle length, vehicle turning radius, how your SIDE view mirror is adjusted.
You know these are general instructions (still good advice), different cars have different steering gear ratios. So how much you turn the steering wheel turns the tires a different amount on different vehicles.
In the united states, it's customary just to whip into any parking lot and wherever the car comes to a stop you shut the engine off, hop out and attendance to your business.
