- Track four from the album "Tim Smith's Extra Special OceanLandWorld", "a titillating collection of songs, released exclusively on to CD, from the prolific pen of Cardiacs' main composer and lead singer Tim Smith. Recorded and performed by way of a penance on his own between 1989 and 1990 "
This song has been wonderfully covered by William D.Drake on the Tim Smith tribute album "Leader of the starry skies"... get it here! www.thegenepool...
"Flies volunteering to take my weight and hold me to the night-time sky: there's my mum, no need to cry.". What a haunting and beautiful world Tim created for us all. We love you, Tim.
lovely, wonderful, mesmerizing, whatever, glad whenever I hear another song out of Tims or Cardiacs library that I hadn't heard before, it's all amazing
Tim Smith makes music great. He sings to the soul. A genius with out peers... And i almost forgot that fact.
praise him
a vastly underrated giant visionary British musical genius. In this album and the others of his/Cardiacs you can hear where others drew inspiration. Best speed for his recovery and I hope for Tim and his family all the best. Love 'Leader Of The Starry Skies - A Tribute To Tim Smith' (Songbook One) and Lilywhite's Party (Feat: Andy Partridge) Robert White.
Bill Drake doing this on the tribute album is amazing. He really did a great job. In fact the whole tribute album, and the companion, are excellent.
He really did! Both versions are tearjerkers. A true masterpiece composition, yet that's true for every tune Tim ever wrote.
Just listen to the bass.. that bassline is just so sublime..
Listening on my phone... No basslines here
You are totally right! It's an amazingly melodic line played by Timmy, I just wished it was mixed a tad hotter to hear even more clearly. But its beautiful and genius!
@sterbus79 WoW! Well done on being a part of such an amazing work! Extra pond points for you!
Tim and Brahms were made from the same cloth... practical jokers both, Brahms had a rocking chair in his office that would tip over backwards... but he was universally loved by common people for his generosity and kindness.
its got some pretty amazing covers on it-among my favourites are 'to go off and things', 'march', 'gloomy news', 'stoneage dinosaurs' and of course 'dirty boy'!!:) -but they are all classics and for an excellent cause too!!
"Flies volunteering
to take my weight
and hold me to the night time sky
There's my mum,
no need to cry"
Always gets me blubbering.
Thanks sterbus. By the way, your cover of Gina Lollobrigida kicks the tits off the original, but don't tell Tim I said that :D
Bill really did it with the rendition of this didn't he? I mean, this is glorious, and Mr Drake took it to another level... Absolutely spectacular!
I concur :)
I thought this is all Timmy... in his home studio... Timmy reminds me of Brahms at his best...
Beautiful song and yes Bill took this to a total other level.
Lyrics are so powerful in hindsight.
@@dorengarcia5097 I think op is talking about Bill's cover
William D Drake is a genius, but I still prefer this version. More of a haunting and dreamy atmosphere
@sterbus79 I got both cds! William D Drake and his so called friends did a great job in this track! Tim is probably one of the greatests spirits alive on this planet !
sounds like being wrapped in ghosts
Shark ghosts. :)
Kiss the big ugly shark...ghost.

@stanonfire I have it !!! and to be more precise, I'm on that too... look who did Dirty boy! :) Tim's the man
Wish they wouldn't put that former guitarist's face on the screen.
