This was wonderful! Twenty years ago I went camping in the Ukrainian part of the Carpathians and it was like going back in time to the Early Paleolithic. But Julius, don't worry about the bears so much. If you don't startle them or make them feel cornered they'll leave you alone because, really, Julius, they are very picky eaters. What is there to eat on YOU? Nothing. Zip. Skinny arms and legs with no meat, just tendons and veins. No bum with a bit of fat. No thigh meat. Big nose and ears, yes, which would be like chewing rubber. And being a vegan, well, you have the natural defense of your gas. I mean, at minute 14:10 one can hear the results of eating a kilo of lentils the night before. No, maybe a starving polar bear might think gnawing on a Dutch bony size 46 foot has some nutrition but I doubt it. You do not appeal to carnivores. Sorry.

One of the best things one of my grandparents did for me, was make sure I had a subscription to several nature magazines for kids. I"ve always grown up loving nature and trees and I just... cannot understand people who look at forests and see money to be made and nothing else. It's not survival. it's not needed firewood to stay warm through winter. It's just... cruel.

Forestry provides jobs in otherwise poor regions of the world. I wouldn't attack the livelihood of people in a country you are a guest in. I don't believe the loggers are responsible for the increase in bear attacks in Romania. It is much more likely the foolish ban on hunting them that has increased their numbers to a dangerous level. Most of the trails hikers love to follow through the mountains were built for a forestry or agricultural purpose. Without those industries you have nowhere to hike except on the manicured cycle paths of western Europe. The Netherlands has allowed and encouraged wolves back into their country out of foolish and ignorant ideas about conservation. You can now have that authentic predator encounter experience in your backyard in Holland with your wife and kids, no need to fly to Romania any more ! Anyway thank you for sharing your views and showing what stunning mountain scenery Romania has to offer. Bedankt.

Those little burner triangles always go nuts when the pot is on top and there is a bit of wind. They heat pretty quickly to where the alcohol is just boiling and, I think, evaorating and flames in excess of 70 cm suddenly shoot out random directions while anything flammable underneath begins to contribute. I used a trangia version as a second stove in the arctic for a month, and it was pretty intolerable unless all was quiet and everything else nice and wet. Not really convinced of their facility, you really need them on a good wide slab of rock, naked earth, sand or some kind of metal tray which is not not always avaliable or practical. Why carry a dedicated tray for a proposed light system? They also go through fuel fast because they’re more exposed even if you use a shield. This thing about “prevailing wind directions” - I never really get that. Nor do I get mostly stable winds but gusts which create a bellows … so nyeah ….meeeh ….

He who slew a tree was considered the same as he who slew a man. The trees are citizens of the state to be protected the same as any other citizens. according to the old law. Leonardo Da vinchi designed dams that catch river wood that can be dried and provide a constant supply as a it accumultes at the dam. i was chased this summer by two guys working for the council as it turned out for cutting down trees in my local park, their three dogs surrounded me off leads and i shouted at them to get back and the council guy came at me with a raised axe for threatening his three boiterous dogs. it also showed me the mentality behind the pepple who cut down trees and how easily they can move on to wanting to cut down a peacful person walking silently though the park keeping their space. Humans should not be allowed within 5 meteres of a tree without taking a vow to respect them as a human, otherwise we can way too easily overlook the gifts and take advantage. Lentils and curry powder, that looks awesome and very brave to cook around Bears. Id say the Garam Masala could carry for a few hundred feet., your a brave soul, it looks like an amazing place to realise your animation.
