When Taemin was selecting songs for this album, he didn't really like any of the songs SM was suggesting for him, so he decided to write a song himself. And "Day and Night" is what he came up with. He happened to be in the middle of a concert tour at this time as well, so he didn't have a whole lot of time to work on the choreography either. However, because it's Taemin, he just decided to wing it, and if you watch several live performances of "Day and Night" you will see that the choreography changes almost every time he performed it. He was still working on the choreography during filming of the MV and even during promotions for the song, so he was continuously tweaking and changing parts of the dance during each performance. I am not sure if he ever actually finalized the choreography.

It's one of my favourite Taemin's songs. It's interesting that the songs that he had a part in writing usually have this calm, melancholic and intimate vibe. I didn't like the MV at the beginning. I wished it was more like his stage performances of this song, which are great and have beautiful choreography, but now it is one of my favourite Taemin MVs. So simple yet so pretty.
The story of how he made this song is really cool! It was for MOVE’s repackage album and SM wanted him to recycle a song from Move as the title track but taemin refused and came up with this song within a WEEK while he was actually in japan for a concert. He told on a radioshow how he hummed the melody into his phone and sent it to a composer friend who can revise it until he’s back in korea while taemin was already writing the lyrics. And back in korea he quickly went to jeju to film those aesthetic shots because there were only like three days left and in the meanwhile he already made the choreo but he kept changing it a bit during every music show performance because he was still adjusting it. He said he did it in spite of his company 😂
Taemin, we love you no matter what. You did a great job though out the time. Do what makes you free and happy. We understand it is very different, but it is fine to be not OK. Your music made us strong and give us strength.
