When you watch one of the scariest horror movies of all time and laugh constantly of what is happening, it feels like you don´t care about what the filmmakers tried to show, or like a complete disrespect to the material. It just takes people out of the mood that the film intended to create. Is similar to be laughing hysterically at a funeral.
Yeah, not what I expected based on the thumbnail. It's the laughs, mood killer indeed. She's a beginner compared to others. Not hating, but I hope she do a better if not, a proper reaction next time😢
The thing is, older horror movies are not like modern horror movies. The movies of today are formulaic, filled with jumpscares, and you can giggle through them without missing anything because the plot is paper thin. Movies like this are actually trying to say something. You have to pay attention because everything means something. I dont know, maybe you laughed out of being uncomfortable, but it came off as disrespectful. Everybody in this movie worked very hard and under tough conditions, just so you could giggle.

The best way to watch a scary movie is not by pausing it every time you get scared and then turning it off halfway through and watching the second half the next day lol ..... but really you can't give a proper reaction watching any movie like that. This film was made specifically to make people feel uncomfortable. At the very least, that's what it does to most viewers. To many others, it makes them cling harder to their faith. Some people are unaffected by any of it, and they laugh it off, perhaps nervously. Either way, what can't be denied is that "The Exorcist" is brilliant from a technical film-making point of view.

Put yourself in a theater watching this in 1975 and you would have been terrified and shocked to the core, you should read how the audience reacted to this in it's original release, still widely considered the king of horror movies, held the record for highest grossing horror movie for decades and was nominated for several Academy awards
The laughing really took me out of this. I get not everyone will like the movie but it was too much at the absolutely wrong times, and you didn't seem to pay too much attention no wonder you were confused. I couldn't finish this video.
The statue is that of Pazuzu. In Middle Eastern culture, Pazuzu is referred to as a demon, however, not "demon" as we in the western world know the term. Pazuzu is a spirit posessing both good and bad qualities. He is the personification of the destructive western winds, however, he is also known as a diety who fights off evil demons and spirits and is a protector of pregnant women. In the movie, "Captain Howdy" as Regan calls it, is the demon she let in through the OUIJA board (the pretty little face that randomly flashes on the screen), and the demon that posesses her. Pazuzu is also present, but depicted in the movie as watching over her while also inside her, battling Captain Howdy. I never knew what that line meant in the beginning of the movie "Evil against evil" until i researched Pazuzu.
The movie is based on a novel written by William Peter Blatty, who also wrote the screenplay for the film, for which he won an Oscar. The novel explains a lot more. Basically, the story is not about Regan, it's about Father Karras. Throughout the story, he's guilt ridden about his mother and he's losing his faith. In the end, he commits the ultimate act of love by sacrificing his life by taking the demon into himself and jumping out the window before he can harm Regan.
WOW, thank you for explaining it! I did look into it a little after but not that deeply. As usual, it seems that books are just much clearer. I can see why (with your explanation) it won an Oscar, but, I feel like, to get such a wholesome message across, it really didn't need all the weird sexual stuff but maybe that's just me... Thanks for explaining though, it makes so much more sense now!
@neonvibes according to author William Peter Blatty, the whole point of stuff like the "crucifix scene" was to not shock or sicken. It was, in terms of the story, what would be the final straw that would convince the mom, who's an atheist, that this was supernatural and she needs an exorcism. Honestly, you can laugh, but it's really a love story. Karras commits the ultimate act of love for someone he never met. Remember, he never met "Regan", only the demon.
that's so interesting, I would never have thought of it that way... I really appreciate the explanation, I was so creeped out after watching that I really didn't want to spend much time looking into it, so thanks🙂!
@neonvibes I would suggest you watch the documentary "The Fear of God", it's about the making of the film. They talk to all the actors and filmmakers. It's fascinating and on RUclips. (By the way, the whole point of the opening Iraq scene is that Father Merrin, as we learn, had dealt with this demon before and he's having a premonition after he sees the statue/image of the demon that he's about to face it again.)
"It wasn't as scary as I was expecting". You could barely even process what you were watching since the anxiety of potentially being in a state of fear produced non-stop babble through the entire movie. Relax! It's only a movie sweetie...
The two things aren't mutually exclusive. If anything, they often go together: people are often scared of disturbing things and they're disturbed by scary things.
@@jaycarv1710 I appreciate your point, but I still maintain the distinction and would add that most of the big scares in The Exorcist are telegraphed in advance by screaming heard from another room, etc.
The movie was released the year I was born, mom told me about it and at 14 watched it, up to this day it's still the most terrifying movie I have ever seen. But gotta love Father K. ( Jason Miller) rip.
Hi, I enjoyed your review, but there was too much commentary. It was continuous with no real breaks in it. Good job and you are fun to watch, but please cut the commentary back some.
hey thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. I hear what you are saying. This was my first time making this style of video and I really didn't know what the play is, leave in more of the movie and less commentary or the other way around. I will keep it in mind next time I make one of these. 👍

I do wish some had been gentler with their feedback here. Like I said, please keep it up and do what we all do. Learn as you go 😊@@neonvibes
You are TOO YOUNG to understand the metaphors of the movie. If you are looking to get into the horror genre, look into watching Hitchcock’s Psycho or Scream. Less obscure but easier on the brain cells.
Honey.....please...grow up a bit before embarking on a journey like a classic movie like this. This video is a perfect reason why folks watch this generation shaking their heads.
This is one of the best horror movies of all time. There are two paths I can suggest: skip the first sequel (Exorcist II) and go right to Exorcist III, which has some of the best acting performances of all time (Brad Dourif, George Scott). Or another way you can go is watch other movies made by William Friedkin- Sorcerer is white knuckle suspense (with no supernatural), while The French Connection is a classic detective film. If you're going on the horror route, Night of the Living Dead was the big classic before the Exorcist, while Texas Chainsaw Massacre was the big classic right after Exorcist. Other essential 70s horror films: Jaws, Halloween, The Omen, The Wicker Man.
This wasn't really a reaction, it was just you talking non stop for the entire video with a movie playing in the background....that could explain a lot of your confusion...just some advice...its OK to stop and take a breath here and there and observe whats happening in the film lol....cheers!
Also, yes, Pazuzu is a real world demon from Babylonian mythology and is said to be a lord of the wind and flying creatures. Historically the demon had some beneficial attributes and people would wear a necklace of the head to ward off other demonic forces.
Pazuzu was an enemy of the demon/goddess Lamastu. Lamastu's primary victims were unborn and newly born babies, so pregnant women wore images of Pazuzu, because he would hinder Lamastu to spite her.
@@HS-su3cf Right. To my knowledge there is no documented story of ancient Pazuzu possessing humans, but his outward appearance is suitably horrifying and makes a more than adequate villain for the book/movie. It is Lamashtu who is actually credited with inflicting great horrors upon mankind.
The things with the assistant Sharon was an original subplot that got cut. I think your nervousness made you talk a bit too much and you missed a lot of important plot lines. You don’t need religious beliefs to be scared by this but I know it adds a lot for some people. It also explains a lot, like you not understanding demons or exorcisms. My dad found out I used a Ouija board as a little kid and was very bothered. I never understood until I saw this in college and realized he thought I would end up possessed. 😂
As for the ending, you have to keep in mind that the mother was an actress on location in Washington D.C., so they did not live in that house. They were probably renting it for the duration of the movie shoot. They most likely lived in or around the Los Angeles area(just assuming). After the daughter's possession and the movie director being killed, i guess they had enough( the movie probably being cancelled) and went home. So i don't think that they were fleeing a murder rap. Although there should be an investigation as to what happened. Maybe they were going to rent another house( if the movie wasn't cancelled). Can't blame them for leaving that house. Also, this is based on a true story that happened to a 14 year old boy in 1949.
Your non-stop confusion feels like you watched only the film clips you reacted to. For a less confusing reaction, watch the entire movie & follow the story better. You should know this was based on a true story with exaggerated special effects. What made this the best horror movie of all time was the story-telling but you can't get that from watching only the film clips.
To me it feels more safer to watch horror movies at night than in daytime because I feel more unease. Mentally I see nighttime as the place for mysterious but daylight is for the sure safest things.
hey, thanks for the feedback! To be honest, I am someone who laughs when I am feeling uncomfortable/awkward/baffled so I just kept my reacting true to what it was when I was watching the movie. I really am sorry if that ruins the experience for you though (i don't know if this comes across as sarcastic in writing but it really is not meant to be)
@@neonvibes Not at all. Was just kind of baffled by your reactions. I guess everyone is different in different situations. I didn't mean to come across as being judgemental.
nah, you didn't I just wanted to explain it a bit, it's my first time making one of these videos so I didn't know if it makes it more confusing if I'm laughing all the time 😅
nah, its all good, I think it really is situational, like if I got jump scared, I'm not laughing, I'm just shocked into silence but if I'm really uncomfortable, I laugh in the hopes that it will make me feel better😅
U NEED TO CALM DOWN. YOU ARE RAMBLING ALL OVER THE PLACE. now the demon is Pazuzu and he and Merrin.know each other. Pazuzu does not die in the end. Regan got possessed thru the ouji board. The figure found at the bottom of the stairs is NOT from iraq buy from her room when Burke fell out. Chris is not dating Butke. When she said you are going to die up there she was talking to the astronaut. They did a time jump and that is when Karrass's mother died. I think that is all of the pitfalls that most people fall into.
That's how the director freaking commentary was he verbalize everything on screen but I don't mind her doing it cause this is reaction and her voice is lovely and dang she looks so lovely lol. Keep talking girl I'm loving it lol
You were lost because you talked through all of the dialogue. Being a reactor doesn't mean you voice every thought to the point of missing everything. No wonder you didn't have any real reaction.
True horror is not about jumpscares but about that feel of dread that you seemed to feel. Jumpscares really are just the film equivalent of a jack in the box, they might make you jump in the moment but they're nothing more than a momentary surprise and won't make you actually afraid. So with that in mind, perhaps you weren't as scared as you would have thought but if your reaction was real, you can't denie that you were actually disturbed by all the different elements, from the demonic imagery to the overly sexual content used on an underaged girl and that is where the film true strenghts are to make people consider it one of the scariest films of all time. I see a couple comments didn't liked the way you laugh at some of the scenes, but at least I think you were actually affected by the rest of the movie. Overall I enjoyed your reaction and hope you do some more later on. Maybe more classic horror movies? Perhaps you could even learn to enjoy the genre.
Jump scares are sometimes good, but they've become a cliche and too predominant in modern horror films. There are ways of scaring without them...this film, from LONG before they were really a thing, proves so🎩
This movie is filled with a lot of deep symbology, themes, and the alchemical talent behind the writing, directing, cinematography, and acting are exceedingly rare to come upon. This isn't really a movie you watch on a laptop and talk and question every millisecond of. Watch this movie alone, at night, with no distractions, no internet, fall into this story and let its hypnotic pace drag you to its center; you might appreciate the nuances of faith, trauma, and profound universal fear this movie explores. There is a reason it is regarded highly and not just as a "horror" movie. This only became a horror film because of the evocative nature and what that evoked in audiences, at its core, it is a drama.
Your one saving aspect of your reaction was mentioning the medallion. Few reactioners address it. It's a St. Joseph medal. St. Joseph is the patron saint of families. When Regan tore the medal from Father Karras, he wasn't protected by St. Joseph and the demon was was able to enter his body. The demon's real target was Father Karras not Regan.
I liked your reaction to the Exorcist, but you converted your nervousness into chattiness. Seems you were envisioning more than was there during the slow build, and missed a few of the plot points, which made it confusing. Kind of a shame you started here. I think you might want a bit more experience before tackling the heavier ones. For a non-gory, only slightly disgusting creature feature, I suggest 'Tremors'. It is that very rare horror/comedy well-written, well-acted, and just plain fun.
1. I was 13 when I saw this in the theater with friends. What rating system they had at the time wasn't really followed that closely. By word of mouth, I was aware of the head spinning, vomiting and language but what freaked me the most were the demon flashes.😱 2. When the doctor is looking at Regan's skull x-ray and says, "Nothing in there" I always 🤣 3. The spider-walk down the stairs was NOT in the original release. 4. The loud banging with the medical equipment is for our benefit. 5. Father Merrin and the demon/Pazuzu had a previous encounter where he almost killed the father. Merin doesn't acknowledge the receipt of the note and tells Karras there's no need for analysis. 6. Chris MacNeil/Ellen Burstyn actually her coccyx was fractured when the demon makes her hard fall. 7. The demon doesn't kill Merrin. From the beginning we know he has a heart problem most likely brought on by the previous encounter. 8. Karras doesn't kill the demon. He does manage to draw it out of her and sacrificed himself for her. 9 Karras is confessing and asking for forgiveness for his loss of faith.😇 10 RIP William Friedkin.😇
They used a contortionist for the spider walk, but she needed guide wires to help her walk down the stairs, and the wires were very visible on film, so they couldn't use it. Thanks to computer technology advances, they were able to put it back in years ago.
The good news is that you can tell your parents that you aren't a drug user, as usually a thing known as a gateway drug comes into play. Most users don't start with meth, but something several rungs down and move their way up into coke, PCP, and others. With this though, you went right for the top rung. I guess my suggestion would be now to try some more modern horror approaches, if you're still alive: The Babadook, The Witch, and/or Hereditary.
The Exorcist is a very cerebral movie. Perhaps you're just not smart enough for it. Honestly, you need to marry rich or stay close to your parents. I don't see you making it on your own.
What makes this movie scary is the fact that all starts with little things and just scalates as time goes on. Friends that swear to experience paranormal activity in their lives told me it all started with little things as well. Just one criticism I have with your reaction is: Even if you felt uncomfortable (as was the director intended objective) you should have continued without interruptions.
17:55 A very interesting reaction indeed, the way you explain how the film is making you uncomfortable, and how this whole disturbing atmosphere is difficult to watch. A lot of people actually fainted at the cinema when this movie first came out, there's something strange about how this story makes you feel almost sick. The film is based on a book that was inspired by a true event where to Catholic priests did an exorcism, or maybe something quite else, on a young boy. The symbolism presents a phallic Godlike spirit later translated and rerepresented as Satan, the penetrative evil illustrating sexualized shame. The protagonist in the film shows posttraumatic reactions after some sort of abuse. Of course the doctors can't find anything, there's nothing physical or mentally wrong with the protagonist, the protagonist is a victim. The obscene language and the use of the cross during masturbation is disturbing signs, and so the description 'posessed' covers the actual reality of sexual taboo. And in a religious context, the victim is always presented as a bearer of evil, and the priests are shown as God's representatives who supposedly are the only ones that can save the "witch". The only one who intuitively sees the truth is the mother, she just can't describe it in real words. In the end the priests dies, because it's they who have committed the real crime, and so they are punished... The protagonist gets better, and can't remember anything, she has repressed all of it.
I don't want to be disrespectful, and I appreciate you trying and watch it, but, man, gen z are just... I don't know. I guess this generation of teens lost the ability to enjoy movies. If it's not Marvel, The Conjuring stupid jump scares or some trend from TikTok, they just aren't there for it. I mean, this is the scariest movie of all time, one of the (and probably THE one) most acclaimed movies ever, the special effects are insanely real, sound is very much nightmare inducing, perfectly edited, and I'm not even gonna talk about the acting, and this girl is just laughing and mocking throughout this "reaction". I don't know, this generation of young people is just cringey hehe also, why is it so hard for people today to actually follow the plot of a movie and understand what's going on?

If u don't Wana watch this, then don't, you surely know what's it's about you silly little girl!!
The movie was released the year I was born, mom told me about it and at 14 watched it, up to this day it's still the most terrifying movie I have ever seen. But gotta love Father K. ( Jason Miller) rip.
What were you thinking talking through the whole movie!!???
Why are so many reacters doing this movie in August and September this year, when Halloween is right around the corner?? 🤨
Keep at it! Let me encourage you. It takes guts to put yourself out there like you did. Hey, none of us hits a home run when we are doing something brand new , so you're not alone. I do wish some had been gentler with their feedback here. Like I said, please keep it up and do what we all do. Learn as you go 😊@@neonvibes
Talking way too much. Not focused, obviously don't care about the movie. Unwatchable.
I like reaction video's. But this one is not for me. She starts talking and never stops the whole movie. Not my cup of tea.
You are TOO YOUNG to understand the metaphors of the movie.
If you are looking to get into the horror genre, look into watching Hitchcock’s Psycho or Scream. Less obscure but easier on the brain cells.
Tick tock and social media have killed peoples attention spans. No one can pay attention to films anymore. Film is dead
17:45 “Quitting sometimes is the right move.” You’re so right. Bye. 🤦♂️
WOW, I can hardly get through with your talking. UGH!!!
Other essential 70s horror films: Jaws, Halloween, The Omen, The Wicker Man.
wow😮!
thank you so much for such an in-depth comment. I really appreciate it! I will definitely note these down and get around to them sometime
Excellent suggestion in skipping Exorcist II and jumping right into Exorcist III.
I’m 54 years old. Saw this movie 45 years ago and I’m still messed up from it!
omg, this is literally me....
i watched it a few weeks ago and I still jump every time someone walks outside my window 😓
The man she told "you're going to die up there" is an astronaut. Earlier in the party scene he's talking about flying the Mercury and Gemini programs.
oohhhh, that makes sense, I think I wasn't paying that much attention during that scene in general so thank you for explaining it!
@@neonvibesGirl, no offense - you're adorbs - but you weren't "paying attention" anywhere! 😹
@@EC-dz3fb in her defense, only ONE out of all the reaction vids I've seen caught the astronaut part.
The reason you spend the entire movie being 'so confuse' is because you overthink everything way too much.
The constant babble was somewhat annoying. Yes, it's a reaction video so you should talk... But maybe pay attention to the movie more next time.
Don't talk so much during the movies, a little yes, but not so much haha ♥
Agreed. One thing to consider is that the church probably used its considerable influence to hush it up.
Angry 😠!!!
To me it feels more safer to watch horror movies at night than in daytime because I feel more unease. Mentally I see nighttime as the place for mysterious but daylight is for the sure safest things.
You say it's scary, but yet your laughing and smiling when the shocking scenes are happening. Your reactions are confusing.
hey, thanks for the feedback!
To be honest, I am someone who laughs when I am feeling uncomfortable/awkward/baffled so I just kept my reacting true to what it was when I was watching the movie. I really am sorry if that ruins the experience for you though
(i don't know if this comes across as sarcastic in writing but it really is not meant to be)
@@neonvibes Not at all. Was just kind of baffled by your reactions. I guess everyone is different in different situations. I didn't mean to come across as being judgemental.
nah, you didn't I just wanted to explain it a bit, it's my first time making one of these videos so I didn't know if it makes it more confusing if I'm laughing all the time 😅
@@neonvibes I just realized I laugh during horror movies in some cases. I guess I shouldn't talk. Lol.
nah, its all good, I think it really is situational, like if I got jump scared, I'm not laughing, I'm just shocked into silence but if I'm really uncomfortable, I laugh in the hopes that it will make me feel better😅
“It can’t be that bad”
@@MilesjDoyle 🥱😴💤💤💤
ok, but it wasn't thaaaat bad, it was still pretty bad though😂😅
My GOD... can you talk!
i don't know if this was meant as a compliment but I am gonna take it that way... so thanks?
U NEED TO CALM DOWN. YOU ARE RAMBLING ALL OVER THE PLACE. now the demon is Pazuzu and he and Merrin.know each other. Pazuzu does not die in the end. Regan got possessed thru the ouji board. The figure found at the bottom of the stairs is NOT from iraq buy from her room when Burke fell out. Chris is not dating Butke. When she said you are going to die up there she was talking to the astronaut. They did a time jump and that is when Karrass's mother died. I think that is all of the pitfalls that most people fall into.
1:36 "Surely, it can't be that bad." 😹
Famous last words.
That's how the director freaking commentary was he verbalize everything on screen but I don't mind her doing it cause this is reaction and her voice is lovely and dang she looks so lovely lol. Keep talking girl I'm loving it lol
Your constant talking probably caused a lot of your confusion. It made you come across as goofy.
I thought that was a great reaction, I understood the laughing to be nerves, we all cope in different ways.
I know it's your first movie reaction but please talk less.
thanks for the feedback, I'll keep it mind if I do another one!
She's possessed hence the violence... Plain clear, right.. this iconic flick's half a century old
Jump scares are sometimes good, but they've become a cliche and too predominant in modern horror films. There are ways of scaring without them...this film, from LONG before they were really a thing, proves so🎩
Three rules for viewing this Film for the first time. 1) Do not watch after Dusk 2)Use Buddy system 3) View sober.
Love it how shes watching it on a free movie website😂 legend!😂
23:49 “It’s the snake wee-wee statue” made me laugh!
You have to watch it with the lights off....
That scary face is Captain Howdy, honey.
Blatty and Friedkin were not looking to make a horror film... but, I guess that's the genre it best fit in.
"I don't like that..." There's an echo in here.
really? I thought I was being subtle...😅
Subtle as a sledgehammer... 🤣
You’ve never watched a horror movie and you picked the one that most reactor’s have to work they’re way up to…The Exorcist? Props to you!
You didn't have to blur it several other reactors showed the whole thing
1. I was 13 when I saw this in the theater with friends. What rating system they had at the time wasn't really followed that closely. By word of mouth, I was aware of the head spinning, vomiting and language but what freaked me the most were the demon flashes.😱
2. When the doctor is looking at Regan's skull x-ray and says, "Nothing in there" I always 🤣
9 Karras is confessing and asking for forgiveness for his loss of faith.😇
10 RIP William Friedkin.😇
They used a contortionist for the spider walk, but she needed guide wires to help her walk down the stairs, and the wires were very visible on film, so they couldn't use it. Thanks to computer technology advances, they were able to put it back in years ago.
This is one of the worst reactions to this movie I've ever seen !! 👎👎
Thanks👍?
You might as well turn the sound off, you talked all through it.
😂😂😂
I love this comment😆
thanks for the suggestions! I will look into these for the next time I get the horrible idea to watch a horror movie
I read the novel and watched the movie, but it scared me for years. After some time you'll be able to watch it without laughing
I would not have started with The exorcist
just fyi this movie is based on a true story
“…surely it can’t be that bad. “ oh, my sweet summer child. I’m so sorry for what’s to come. Buckle up.
The movie didn't have to rely on jumpscares, that discomfort you felt, that's what the film makers went for.
Well you kind of watched it.
Georgetown is in Washington DC
No no no hon! Forget about the necklace!
If you want a more modern take watch “Constantine” with Keanu Reeves.
The Exorcist is a very cerebral movie. Perhaps you're just not smart enough for it. Honestly, you need to marry rich or stay close to your parents. I don't see you making it on your own.
No 1930s monster movies or Vincent Price movies as a warmup. Just jumping into the deep end. Respect.
Girl you doin to much
What makes this movie scary is the fact that all starts with little things and just scalates as time goes on. Friends that swear to experience paranormal activity in their lives told me it all started with little things as well. Just one criticism I have with your reaction is: Even if you felt uncomfortable (as was the director intended objective) you should have continued without interruptions.
yap yap yap
Watch the entire scary movie down stairs in the very dark room of the concrete basement 😰👻!! I probably laugh about that later.🤣😂😆😅😄💀🤡🤠hahahahaha
Pointless “review”🙄
Less talking. More watching.
💯
To answer your last question, it’s because kids these days have the attention span of a goldfish! There was so much she could have learned had she not talked the whole time!
Definitely one of the best horror movies of all time based on a true novel it had people throwing up, passing out and judging Thier own faith when it was in theatre some theaters had ambulances waiting outside and it was just pea soup lol
What do they teach kids your age now? I am guessing nothing except, patriarchy, twerking and alimony lawyers.
