- SHELTER stars Clea DuVall (Argo, Zodiac, Girl Interrupted) and April Grace (Whiplash, Magnolia), and takes place in one day at a local animal shelter, where Petra (Clea DuVall), a prison inmate trustee, works to help socialize a dog deemed too aggressive for society. As tensions build between herself and her hardened supervisor (April Grace), Petra will have to make a choice between what is best for her parole and what she feels is right. The two leads give nuanced performances that embody the perils of giving in to the system or lashing out against it.

That didn't go where I suspected, but I like where it took me. I loved the ending. Really excellent.
Sorry... One day ("takes place in one day at a local animal shelter") seems much too short for this dynamic to have naturally developed for "Petra"--the reason being, she is not reasonably critical of the the personal actions which have landed HER in jail. I've been in jail, and I will not mistake a "cartoon" of my behavior (the abused dog biting her, as she bit a cop) for the reality of what I did.
There must be a much more "nuanced" transition "between what is best for her parole and what she feels is right." What she "feels is right" leads to the flawed behavior that put her in jail. Here, she again resorts to a flippant "A>Z" move, not the "A>B" move (...or, even, "A>M" move) that she HAS TO MAKE. Try this again, with a bit more sympathy for the dog and your audience.

The difference may be the animals that cannot be given
to a new owner or family
are put down humanely?

This company may be one of the best to make short films.
