    I feel like everyone that hasn't read the books judges Drizzt exactly like the overland NPCs do. Like some edgelord simply because they played a Drow. But the concept of him is the most selfless force for good born into an evil society, and his development after. How is a 'good' character edgy lol.

      @@michaelconrad8580 if being a Drow is all about being edgy, and he's not edgy, then that makes him a Lord of endless edgery in his own society. the sheer balls.

      @RhysGFrelsa-Eudyptula 3 года назад +6

      You clearly do not understand what makes "edgy" as "edgy". It runs both ways, something daring outside their social norms. He dared to break free from his societal norms. And did so in a way that also ended up with a few others also breaking free, if not by his direct influence, then by indirect with tales of his exploits.
      He (with his companions), fought back against the entirety of his home city not once, not twice, but 3 times that I know of.
      The biggest F U to his society that I know of.
      Drizzt wasn't even to be a main character until others clamored for more about this Drow... he was literally just a random thought tossed in by R. A. Salvatore and then became a main character with his own series of books about his history.

      Svellsongur I'm not talking about your character in particular, I'm more talking about a trend where a lot of newer players tried to create their own version of a good Drow, which attempt to emulate Drizzt and ends up being a kinda serviceable if derivative character at best, or a lone wolf tortured edgelord who is just exhausting to be around at most.
      Granted it seems to be more of an early edition thing, since Tieflings seem to be the primary lone wolf edgelord race now, because Sunlight sensitivity is a serious detriment to Drow PCs, and Tieflings have a ton things going for them with all their options.

      @@InquisitorThomas This was a problem and I think led to a lot of push back against Drizzt himself, as people got sick of dealing with the imitators. Which led to a good while to a weird situation where Drizzt books sold by the bucketful but finding people admitting they liked Drizzt was really hard.
      To be fair it is possible to do a good redeeming Drow, that is not Drizzt mark 2, PC but yeah I did once have someone in my old Uni gaming group ask if they could play Drizzt.

      At some point they say they don't wanna get into too much detail to avoid spoilers. They even summarised the whole story of Dritzz after leaving the underdark, which spans dozens of novels, as "a whole bunch of adventures on the surface" and moved on. The focus i think was on the main character and the recurring cast. That doesn't mean they forgot about Mooshie, just didn't mentioned. Oversight? Maybe. That's a matter of opinion. Drizzt's piwawfi cloak got pretty beaten up during his 10-11 years in exile. It was made of fine threads, in a combination of black, silver, red, and purple colors. But it probably just looked like a muted gray blob after Exile.
    And when he came to the surface, that cloak shrivelled within his first month, as the result of lack of faezress energy recharging, and exposure to sunlight. See Sojourn.
    He then picked up a ratty cloak off a gnoll leader that he killed. That got burned off of him by the red dragon Hephaestus.
    Drizzt is then awarded a fine, thick cloak for helping the Weeping Friars, and he heads off to Icewind Dale.
    At the beginning of The Crystal Shard, he has a brown cloak in the summer, to match the color of the tundra soil, just like the tundra yetis...
    When the Companions traipse across the south to rescue Regis, Drizzt rocks a black cloak.
    At the end of The Halfling's Gem, he overlooks Mithral Hall from a cliff, in a cloak that we are told is forest green when the same scene is elaborated upon in the next novel, The Legacy. (Mithral Hall is located in a temperate, forested environment.)
    As the Companions head out of Icewind Dale in The Silent Blade as winter is turning to spring, Drizzt has a gray cloak again. This would make sense traveling in a snowy area.
    But forest green has been the main color that he has gone with, since he is a ranger traveling in the woods so often. It's definitely his signature look, now.

    Man, Salvatore is a great writer. Every one of the Drizzt books, the cleric quintet, & any Forgotten Realms contributions as well as his demon wars saga & any other standalone worlds he has written about never disappoint. I'm so surprised that Drizzt hasn't gotten his own HBO, R rated cartoon or even movies. I still read the crystal shard & streams of silver every spring for no reason at all beyond living them. I also love Paul S. kemp's books, for anyone that's a fan of Salvatore & the Drizzt series, I highly, highly recommend Kemp's Egil & Nix novels. There's a trilogy of them so far as well as one or two novella short stories that, I think, are Audible exclusives. Love it!!

      10 years surviving alone in the Underdark.
      Exile took about 1 year.
      Spent about 6 years on the surface in Sojourn before moving to Icewind Dale.

    • @alexok37
      @alexok37 5 лет назад +1

      @@drizztiley8740 for an expert on Drizzt lore, he makes quite a few errors. "You can't tell what side Jarlaxle is on" being the most blatant. Pronunciation drove me absolutely insane, I understand some things are difficult/there are multiple correct ways, but the pronunciation of Regis is pretty blatantly REE-jiss. This man lists two pronunciation, both of which are wrong, and says there is debate... kinda just sounds pretentious. Particularly for a voice actor he has a remarkable way of making literally everything sound unnatural. I don't think I would have been mad if Will just said "Hey we are bringing our buddy who is a big fan of the series to talk about it", but they said expert and this guy is DEFINITELY not an expert. I don't consider myself an expert, but coulda given a better interview than this guy... the phonetic spellings are on forgotten realms wiki... i don't mean to be a hater, let everyone enjoy the way they pronounce them in their head... but don't say you're expert and pronounce everything atrociously wrong lol

    I first read RR Salvatore's novel (the second book in Dark Elf Trilogy) on my first combat tour in Afghanistan 2003. Myself being versed in weapons based martial arts (Inosanto Lacoste Kali & Bujinkan) the Drizzt stories intensified my motivation in my studies. Now, I'm re-reading the series in order starting from "Homeland."

    Clacker the Hook Horror that Drizzt befriends in the Underdark was cursed by a human wizard but was originally a Pech which was a sort of rock race, they hear the voices of the stones and slowly becomes consumed by the simpler mind of the Hook Horror

    Your expert has missed and messed up so much but has gotten it close enough to intrigue people to read the series. Do like the show though. His name was Errtu not Balor. The Hook Horror was polymorphed by a wizard from a special race of underdark humanoids who could "listen" to the stones and move through the earth like wading through water.
