Interesting use of a stone slinger and will truly speed that portion of road building. Amazing how the simplest of inventions take the longest time to come along. Kudos to the person behind the thought.
Allow me to explain this video. CAD in this case simply means "Conveyor Aggregate Delivery". Aggregate is the stone that it's launching. The black 'blanket' is filter fabric. Filter fabric is used in this situation to keep the sand and dirt underneath from contaminating the road bed. The chains are there to keep the fabric flat until the stone goes down. The little bit of stone they're slinging is just to keep it from blowing away until the dump trucks arrive to build up the road.
This material is not used to keep weeds from growing thru the road bed. It keeps the soils and building material separated and disributes the road load over the whole surface covered. I have personally used miles of this stuff in swamp and muskeg land and it works,In some cases we had it stiched to make up 60ft wide strips to cover the surface before covering with a metre of clay fill. This was done to build roads for moving drilling rigs and loads in excess of 150.000 lbs. I speak from exp.
That is an awesome idea!!You dont know how many times Ive been laying down felt for a parking lot or driveway, trying to get ahead of the trucks by rolling a bunch out and wouldnt you know it thats when the wind picks up and I lose my shit!
The black matting is a geotextile membrane. This membrane is used to separate various layers of construction materials. Though I've never seen this machine it would appear that the method would be well suited to road building. The geotextile membrane would likely separate an unsuitable natural soil later from a more compactable, stable, select backfill layer to support the road. This appears to simply be a placement demonstration. The stone is a temporary balast to retain the geotextile.
to all those who don't know I think it is a roadbed under liner developed in the early 70s making the road last longer it is a 3m product first tested in Oklahoma city circa 1972
Chickenman, - that was a great and informative answer. Thanks for taking the time to tell me ! -I'm fascinated by innovative machinery like this and will certainly look up Byron Kelly.
What you are seeing here is a gravel slinging truck putting aggregates onto a piece of felt like material. The material is a moisture barrier. You would use this material in low/wet areas to make a road. there is no hot bitumin (liquid asphalt) here. This is simply felt like material and a rock slinger truck. The chains keep the felt from blowing up and wrinkling before the stones are placed to hold it down.
This truck is also used to backfill basements. when a truck can't get to the otherside of the basement foundation, this truck will "sling" the gravel over the basement and close to where it needs to be. Then a dozer or bobcat can backfill and smooth out for the next course of aggregate, topsoil and ready for landscaping. The truck is called a Rock Slinger.
my uncle used to be an owner of trucks like this they were based out of Carnation Wa they were the coolest trucks, then he sold the company but they were sure the thing to watch as a kid
major600 In this case it looks to be only a demonstration, although I wouldn't know. However it can be used to stop growth of plants, while allowing water to filter through its membrane. If the soil is not rigid it can be used to strengthen the integrity of your road. There are other uses as well including but not limited to creating drainage canals, containment of substance, separation between layers. blah blah blah, google the rest.
For those who don't understand they're laying textile to keep material from sinking. a common practice in soft areas and swamps. that macine is just ensuring the textile does not blow away. If the wind starts blowing you can go to the next county to get it back,I'm speaking from experiance. They will lay road bed on top of the textile.
What EXACTLY is the purpose of this? I have no clue what I just saw. Tip for the poster... describe what's going on in the video to prevent all the negative comments & thumbs down.
+mikeelp23 That's a preliminary stage of road building Mike and it is a great new technology with massive time saving implications, that they are demonstrating. But why are so many people with no connection to Civil Construction watching this video, I mean 5,324,169. WTF.
+John Lane Thanks for the explanation and to answer why there are so many views is because this video has been linked to construction accident videos that have just as many views. That's how I came across it anyway.
+John Lane 5.324.169 views i can explain. You see Cadtruck closely resembles CAT, i dont mean the company i mean the animal. Now youtube thinks we all love cats and i thinks we are a bunch of idiots and at least the second one is true. So all the youtube algorithm sees in "Cadtruck.wmv" is Ca- typo - t ... rest doesnt matter. And now youtube thinks we all have to watch it since its about cats.
design improvement have approx 5 pipes hang off the back and feed the gravel thru the pipes. this should produce less waste while still keeping the weight required to keep the tar paper material from blowing away..
Do you even live in the US? Japan attacked US in December 7, 1941. And the Lousitania was attacked by a German sub in early 1916 (around that time frame) that cause the US to help out Britain and France against the Germans.. Mind you, HELPED out. and the road construction, that black tarp actually keeps the rocks from flying off. Its a temporary road until they come in with proper materials to finish. Here in America, we like to do things properly :) - A legal immigrant to the USA
I think what there doing is putting down landscaping tarp witch prevents vegetation from growing threw. the stones are to weigh it down before the sub base is put on.
This video is just showing off the truck and how it innovates the fabric laying process for roads. The guy you see in the back walking on the fabric invented this truck and process, his name is Byron Kelly. Search for CRCPT and there is an updated video with better improvements to the truck. Anyway to answer your question. After this, road graders or bulldozers will level a layer of gravel over the fabric. Then a paving machine will come by and pave the road with asphalt. Hope that helps
@BoTMSapper I've layed lotts and lotts off these matts by hand in windy situations and that really hard so i really love this selution !! After this you dump the loads on whit dumptrucks and spread it out whit a loader or excavator. At least thats how we do it here....
Please edit this video's description box and elaborate on what's depicted. What the truck is doing and why? What is the black fabric for? What are the chains for? What is being sprayed on top of the fabric? Where does it come from? Why is it necessary?
AND ...btw, I guess we was all looking for THIS HERE ... /watch?v=2VsASzsMLDw the machine uses the old street to build a new one....recycled street, german machine in bella Italia :D
Think its a Geotextile membrane designed to contain a hard core aggregate when applied to soft ground, trouble is how does that truck get over the soft ground to place it ! lol
Yes but for pple that never seen anything like that it's a mystery, I have used miles of that textile and it really works. My work with it was in muskegs and swamp land in northern Canada. I didn't believe in it at first but I convinced myself after a couple of time.,Thanks for commenting.
From where i come from, we use fibertex as bottom on soft ground to hold the gravel, when building roads and shit. but whats the purpose of the mat on this hard ground ??
I'm not giving answers. I'm asking questions. Given the description box as it is, it's not starting far enough back at the beginning for me to understand it.

Looks like a weed barrier laid on a freshly built road/driveway sub base and more base being conveyed over top of it to keep it weighed down so the wind does take off with it. Boring to say the least.

OK... I see a plastic sheet with a scattering of stones..... I think this could catch on!
+jim smith what kind of fabric is it
3.8 million views??? Most of the commentators don't even know what these guys are doing.
lol
major600 I was hopping you would be the one to clarify that to all these people.
I don't know what the hell they're doing either. I'm just another of the 3.8 million suckers who thought they'd learn something. :-p

Does whatever a Spider Truck does
wtf loool
I think what there doing is putting down landscaping tarp witch prevents vegetation from growing threw. the stones are to weigh it down before the sub base is put on.
Point of this is exactly what? Is this a new method of sub for a road??
end of the road you say? lets just roll some out!
btw awesome 30sec intro there.
guess no to many viewers tried to lay out fabric in wind lol neat idea

great, at least i know where to look if i need cloth laying out in the middle of the desert with gravel spread on top!
sand stability for OSP projects... I guess. It can save network during flood erosion or sand storm.

they are all idiots like ME ... thought we see a machine building a street instead some comercial and NOTHING else :D

cool machine...just what the heck is it used for?
I guess I'm just like the other 2,352,788 who watched this and wondered why I am. Cause I have no frikkin idea.
I know... Because it's friggin awesome!
what the hell are they doing?
Awsome could use this for building acess roadsson wind farms
That is an awesome idea...
in part two chuck norris is rolling all over that thing... like a boss!!!
Think its a Geotextile membrane designed to contain a hard core aggregate when applied to soft ground, trouble is how does that truck get over the soft ground to place it ! lol
Pretty slick. Rolling that fabric out by hand sucks
Adding extra gravel to the desert Awesome! xD
i think this is a super wonder dirt throwing thing
yes it will. it depends on what style of geo textile you use.
I understand what he's doing - but what happens after this ? -Is there a part 2 of this operation ?
Yes but for pple that never seen anything like that it's a mystery, I have used miles of that textile and it really works. My work with it was in muskegs and swamp land in northern Canada. I didn't believe in it at first but I convinced myself after a couple of time.,Thanks for commenting.

See right there, that's the clarification I wanted. Thank you.
This Yoke Is Cool
In Germany we build highways but different ;)
cool but how dose the big machine stay on soft ground mmmm?
in winter, this shit can save lives :D
From where i come from, we use fibertex as bottom on soft ground to hold the gravel, when building roads and shit. but whats the purpose of the mat on this hard ground ??
you mean to keep vegetation from growing up through the road surface. The geo textile will do NOTHING to prevent the road from sinking.
good job
The forget to take a crap before they put down the fabric :))
the comments here are really priceless, the vid is almost self-explaining, isnt it? =)
thanks for explaining I was wondering wtf when I saw it lol
If I had to stand there watching this machine putting rocks on a piece of cloth for a job better cover me with the rocks and leave me there.
Interesting!
ok...how..did i end up here?
I LOVE CARROTS...! CAUSE IM HUMEN!!!
As you can tell by the sound of the wind it would blow away and they need to weigh it down don't be stupid
uhuhuhuhuhuhu i´m coming baby!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it's broken . I'd watch my windscreen if that's a road. How on earth I got here I 'll never know
i would assume this is some kind of land fill
I don't understand what's happening here. What is this truck used for other than making a mess?
You must be on about one clever 6 year old, sir.

what is the use of fabric in road construction ??. just lift the fabric and the road is gone !!
it keeps weeds and other vegetation from growing through the pavement
thanks for the clearification
I'm not giving answers. I'm asking questions. Given the description box as it is, it's not starting far enough back at the beginning for me to understand it.

And what is it good for? :)
What was wrong with geogrid?
and the point is....?
ssb031 The point is to put that cloth on the ground, and put aggregate on it. It seems to do the trick.
In this case it looks to be only a demonstration, although I wouldn't know. However it can be used to stop growth of plants, while allowing water to filter through its membrane. No, that would defeat the purpose of it. It is meant to keep the rock that makes up the dirt road from sinking onto the soft soil.
The black sborra XD
I'm not sure what you're saying Mike, Imean no disrespect here, just think theres room for improvement on this machinery. :/)
