I think _Ragnarok_ will long be remembered and beloved as a must play videogame. And I agree that _Elden Ring_ should go down in history as a landmark game, an important moment in this industry and culture.
I argue that also Xenoblade should have won one. Obviously it would never win GOTY since anime debuff for people's eyes and both ER with GOW fanbase are too big to even consider beating. But fuck, it should have won music and RPG. It brought together so many RPG circles and it is their beloved game...like extremely beloved. And the music, look up comparisons. The other games had like 2 hours of music? Xenoblade has over like 16 hours with dynamic music and so so many tracks. They also made their own instruments for the game for the music. It losing in the 2 categories it should win is extremely criminal. There is a reason Xenoblade fans are annoyed that it didn't get one, if not both. Especially the music part

The context you're missing, it wasn't about fitting in a primetime slot, it was about the Steam Deck 1 per minute giveaway. Because of such a giveaway regardless of how good the giveaway is, Jeff didn't want the show to run longer than expected. It is pretty safe to assume with these types of giveaways, Valve gave Jeff a specific number they are willing to give away, meaning Jeff can't pull shenanigans like allowing the show to run for 5 hrs.

It's less depressing because after a while, sea species like Squids, Octopuses, Crabs, and all the like started VERY RAPIDLY evolving thanks to the leftovers of the human experiments, and soon evolved into intelligent beings. Squids and Octopuses evolved into Inklings and Octolings, while other species (salmon, crabs, jellyfish) just sort of became anthros. Yes humans and mammals are extinct in splatoon, but life as we know it today didn't change. There's still perfectly good societies and barely anything has changed. I usually don't like the "humans are dead" apocalyptic genre due to its cynicality, but Splatoon is a very special case and that's why i like it so much.

That being said, watching them lose every other category and then not even getting a full ten pull as a reward was just delightful. Honestly the way you feel about stray is the way I feel about Elden Ring. I get that it's a good game, but how people talk about it with such reverence, saying that it's possibly the best game ever made, I do not understand. No hate to people who like it, I just... do not get it.
