One of the greatest World Cups ever. I was 19 at the time and home video was all the rage. I made a point of taping every single full match from the Round of 16 onward on VHS using our newly purchased home VCR. As captain of the school and later college football team, watching over and over some of the classics from that tournament (my favourite is still the Brazil-France Quarter-finals clash) helped raise my game significantly. Of course, it goes without saying that every boy and young man on the planet who's ever kicked a ball wanted to be Maradona back then. Fantastic times. I still have the original VHS tapes stored in great condition after transferring them to DVD. One of my most prized possessions. :)
My first world Cup memory, and I remember the summer well..long hot one if I remember right.. earliest year I remember vividly 7 Yr old.. Playing out till dark pretending to be maradonna 🤔😊🔟🏆

@@satarello ... No he cheated get it right ... take away the cheating and it was 1-1 and England were playing the better football towards the end on 90 mins
I think the 1986 World Cup She is the best, the most beautiful and the most wonderful He showed us the greatest player in history Football Diego Armando Maradona Maradona goal against Italy One of the most amazing goals of the tournament With his two goals against England (second) And against Belgium (second)... 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷 10 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷
Football was so wonderful then. Every nation had its own philosophy and style. 0:263:013:52 Soviet Power 1:071:272:105:29 Brazilian Carnival 1:444:46 English Incision 2:465:04 French Elegance 3:30 Danish Flair 4:305:58 Diegol 5:42 Latin Skill 0:532:354:12 Just plain glory strikes And here were 20 more goals where that came from: each unique. Italian passion, German discipline and Dutch technique weren't even in there. Now? Doped-up glorified 5-a-side, with unchanging technique.
Great memories 84 and 86 are my first football memories, Michele platini and then Diego maradona say no more, then 2 years later the brilliant Marco van basten
You know, about the first goal, it is well known in Hungary, that before 1990, it was not allowed to win against the USSR. Of course I am not satisfied with our football (time after time terrible performances and mistakes etc - EXCEPT Euro 2016 :D), but in these matches we HAD to lose. Otherwise.... The only thing in the first goal I appreciate is barely the goal itself, how it has been shot. Apart from this - sadness.
+Mark Shikhvarger ok, I was maybe too enthusiastic...I don't know if it was a "rule", and I think in other sports we have beaten them a few times, but that time in football, many said that this was the case.
A total BS. Hungary had defeated the Soviets a few years before 1986 WC and no one was shot. In 1986 the Soviet team (in fact Kyiv Dynamo) was just much stronger then their hungarian counterparts . Dynamo had won European Cup Winners' Cup a month earlier.
besides Maradona's goal being number 1, I thought Careca's goal against France was easily the 2nd best. Brilliant one touch lead up and cracking first time finish
I wish the 1982 final had been between Brazil and France. That would've been the greatest final ever! The Brazilians of Europe against the French of Latin America!🏆⚽🍻⚡
ABForever Nope....I saw both play...live. Mardona was outstanding...but Pele was out of this world. Pele has three world championships scoring twice in the 1958 final at the age of 17, scored 1363 goals. Hard to surpass don't you think? Besides...Pele is an excellent human being...Maradona is an arrogant scumbag, cocaine addict, cheater, got kicked out of the 1994 World Cup due to the use of "enhancing illegal drugs"...and the saga of stupidity goes on and on. The personal qualities weigh in too.
Great memories. I used to have this clip on VHS tape - so thanks for the upload. The order of the goals was probably a bit random. Agree with Maradona and Negrete at 1 and 2. Josimar's against Poland should have been higher. The second South Korea goal - not sure if that deserved being in the list. Wasn't there another wonder strike by Belanov (Soviet Union) that could have been in there? The Soviets were the kings of the long range strikes (no Cold War pun intended) in Mexico 86.
France v Brazil in the quarter final is the best game of football ive ever seen. I had it on a vhs tape and watched constantly as a 12 year old.... Happy days!!
Unfortunately after the 1986 World Cup teams started playing a lot more defensive which made for boring football. I prefer the free flowing, back and forth action of years past. Will we ever see that kind of football again?
Nope, because it's a business now and all about money! In the past teams would just go for it, but now the fear factor has set in, as nobody wants to lose the lucrative incentives that come by being in The Premiership, etc! 👍⚽️😎
The 82 and 86 World Cups were something special agreed and the first two I saw, but aside from the negative Italia 90 and slightly boring South Africa 2010 I think all the other WC's since 86 have still been memorable in their own right, USA 94 was brilliant apart from the final itself. Remember how good Sweden, Bulgaria and Romania were in that? Germany 2006 had more long range screamers than any tournament I recall and the last two World Cups in Brazil and Russia were very entertaining and high scoring.
The other part of the equation in why the WC have gone downhill, is FIFA and their over the top PC bullshit. All stadium decoration now is done basically by FIFA Uniforms now all look the damn same and now FIFA limits that originality of the uniforms, the fair play BS, the kids coming out with the teams, on and on.....it’s so damn choreographed it’s become stale! What used to be the strength of the WC was seeing the host country showing off its culture and the colors of the spectacle, also the team uniforms originality because back then each country would have their kids designed by their own national brands and so you had very distinct unis 👍🏻 Today it’s either shitty Nike where Brasil’s unis look the same as....Mexico’s or any other country being sponsored by Nike 👎🏻👎🏻 Fucking horrendous
Just watching this whilst the current, awful 2018 edition is on. Wonderful, real football players not tattooed athletes with huge bank balances. Brazil still looked like Brazil, by 1990 they had began to change to a more European style. Maradona, still the greatest...huge personality and bravery. Players could shoot, none more so that the excellent Soviet Union side. Denmark...simply wow. Manuel Negreté and Hugo Sanchez for Mexico. Players were composed, skilful and showed conviction...especially in the final third. 2018 is a culmination of what started in 1990 although we did get a few wonderful players into the 1990s...Zidane, van Basten, Bergkamp, Romarìo, Stojkovic etc.
Roger Mellie Correct Roger,i didn't even watch or look at scores this world cup and stopped watching football 3 year's ago,but I still watch 80s and 90s on RUclips
This World Cup was actually set to take place in Columbia, but they withdrew due to financing problems, so Mexico stepped in at the last minute to host their second World Cup tournament in just 16 years.
just looking back here on some memories that seem more clearer than a 8 year olds memory. This WC. had some breathtaking goals. The russians were a great team then also Josimar, Llorente, even the lesser lights were scoring outstanding individual goals and of course the man himself Marardonna and not forgetting Lineker.
Watching videos of Mexico 70 and Mexico 86 make me even sadder that countries like Russia and Qatar were able to buy....errrrr i mean "awarded" something as beautiful as a World Cup tournament.
Brilliant clip. One of the few times since 1986 I've seen Khairi's goal for Morocco. Few people remember it and never pops up on any 'best of' lists either.
What a World Cup that was, incredible quality on show from so many great teams and players. Makes the modern World Cup tournaments look very tame in comparison.
@hugodrax71 I have to agree . I can't remember anything memorable from the 2002 & 2006 world cups , and this world cup has been tedious at best . France 1998 was the last good one in my opinion .

How is Lineker's goal against Poland (5th) better than Maradona's goal against Belgium (6th) ? This is nonsense
Well, it is a BBC video. Might be just a teensy bit of bias there.
Both of Maradona's goals against Belgium were better than Lineker's...
english propaganda. Maradona crushed ENGLAND :)
You're right. Moreover, in all goals scored by Lineker there is nothing outstanding.
@@satarello ... No he cheated get it right ... take away the cheating and it was 1-1 and England were playing the better football towards the end on 90 mins
Some of these are all-time worldies. The nostalgia is immense.
Holy Sheet! Those brazilian goals
I think the 1986 World Cup
She is the best, the most beautiful and the most wonderful
He showed us the greatest player in history
Football Diego Armando Maradona
Maradona goal against Italy
One of the most amazing goals of the tournament
With his two goals against England (second)
And against Belgium (second)...
🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷 10 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷
The best world cups were between 1966 and 1986 - the golden age of football.
I’m not sure I’d include 1966.
Neither the 1978 dictadura cup.
Best World Cup for me. Maradona broke our hearts but what a player. Josimar againt N.Ireland one of my favorite ever goals.
Football was so wonderful then. Every nation had its own philosophy and style.
0:26 3:01 3:52 Soviet Power
1:07 1:27 2:10 5:29 Brazilian Carnival
1:44 4:46 English Incision
2:46 5:04 French Elegance
3:30 Danish Flair
4:30 5:58 Diegol
5:42 Latin Skill
0:53 2:35 4:12 Just plain glory strikes
And here were 20 more goals where that came from: each unique.
Italian passion, German discipline and Dutch technique weren't even in there.
Now? Doped-up glorified 5-a-side, with unchanging technique.
boosra could not agree more!!
As an example, today brasil looks like a damn European team out there, and it shows.......no thanks 👎🏻👎🏻
Boy! These were goals. Absolute beauties.
wow im proud there are 2goals korean player ... chang sun and soon ho choi
I think this was the best word cup. So many great memories. I like the day games. Great final with Argentina vs W. Germany
Best line ever by a commentator. "You have to say that's magnificent". Classic Davies.
Davies was by far the best commentator, but Motson got the big matches. You have to wonder why?
First world cup I watched. Part of the reason it was so special is the colours as well as the football. The pitches bathed in sunshine.
The best WC so far. If only Denmark hadnt let the group games go to their heads
ganegar7 the uruguay match was something else 😁 but then spain gave them a lesson in the knockout stages 😟
Denmark 🇩🇰 was on fire back in 86
1986 and 2014 will forever be the best world cups. it always ends up with Germany and Argentina when it's football at its very best.
@@FlickanIDetKroktaRummet 1970 remains the best World Cup and 1982 not far behind
Great memories 84 and 86 are my first football memories, Michele platini and then Diego maradona say no more, then 2 years later the brilliant Marco van basten
The Soviets could shoot like long distant ICBMs !!!!!
South Koreans too
Those were a couple of good goals from the south Koreans. They are always tough to beat.
Dirty Gentile and Schumacher ruined it.
There's something awesome about the way footballers used to celebrate a goal. They almost always run raising their arms then do a little jump.
Diego Maradona is the greatest Footballer I've ever seen.
You never saw Pele....right?
Rodolfo Ardon Saw him or not, Maradona is still better. Pele is overrated.
Rodolfo Ardon Again, again, and again. world cup championships are for team awards, not player awards.
+ABForever maradona The best player of The Galaxy :)
I was 10 then i'm now 47 and still can't get over that Maradona work of art Vs England
The Danish kit should be awarded the kit of the tournament 👍🏻 what a beauty 💣💥🔥😍
No we won't. Football's shit nowadays.
All stadium decoration now is done basically by FIFA
Uniforms now all look the damn same and now FIFA limits that originality of the uniforms, the fair play BS, the kids coming out with the teams, on and on.....it’s so damn choreographed it’s become stale!
What used to be the strength of the WC was seeing the host country showing off its culture and the colors of the spectacle, also the team uniforms originality because back then each country would have their kids designed by their own national brands and so you had very distinct unis 👍🏻
Today it’s either shitty Nike where Brasil’s unis look the same as....Mexico’s or any other country being sponsored by Nike 👎🏻👎🏻
Fucking horrendous
Mexico '86 was the last good World Cup.
Amazing memories I was eight years old watching this as the first World Cup I can remember. Josimar what a player!
Shut up.. Yeah I'm trolling but at least I'm not blowing smoke up everyone's arse!!
Both Josemar goals should have been in the top five alongside carreca goal against France and edhinho goal against Poland
chris bennett i agree , Carereca goal is a masterpiece. Especially the build up.
Careca's goal is incredible team play.
Footballers of that time much better than today's
"You have to say that's magnificent" LOL
just looking back here on some memories that seem more clearer than a 8 year olds memory. This WC. had some breathtaking goals. The russians were a great team then also Josimar, Llorente, even the lesser lights were scoring outstanding individual goals and of course the man himself Marardonna and not forgetting Lineker.
Even the Hand of God goal was better than that plain goal by Lineker... illegal, for sure, but genius nonetheless.
The Vasily Rats goal was a beauty, but for pure teamwork, the Jean Tigana goal for France against Hungary is excellent.
Watching videos of Mexico 70 and Mexico 86 make me even sadder that countries like Russia and Qatar were able to buy....errrrr i mean "awarded" something as beautiful as a World Cup tournament.
Have you seen that FIFA Infantino suck Putin's dick in public? Disgusting behavior.
FIFA is corrupt to the bone
Best technical World Cup in History
But not the flair of Italia 90. 😁
#9 for Laudrup goal? Are you kidding me?!?
Such color such vibrancy and best player in the world EVER, Mexico WC one of the best.
I’ll tell you what, the Brazilians scored some wonderful goals
Brilliant clip. One of the few times since 1986 I've seen Khairi's goal for Morocco. Few people remember it and never pops up on any 'best of' lists either.
They're not moments, they're players. Previous World Cup's have included Messi, Ronaldo and co but they've never lived up to their form at club level.
Always loved that belanov goal,so fluid.
Гол Василия Раца сборной Франции вошёл бы даже в пятёрку этого чемпионата.
lol 3 pass volley goal by Mexico Wonderful goal is it me or has Mexico hosted some of that best World Cups!
How very obvious that this was made by the BBC...
What a World Cup that was, incredible quality on show from so many great teams and players. Makes the modern World Cup tournaments look very tame in comparison.
@hugodrax71
I have to agree . I can't remember anything memorable from the 2002 & 2006 world cups , and this world cup has been tedious at best . France 1998 was the last good one in my opinion .
