😁. I’ve really enjoyed this last months festive crafty makes. I remember Alex and I making a book folded hedgehog a few years ago for Steve’s Mum and she still has it on her mantelpiece 💕🎄
Thanks for sharing, love the wooden spools for the tree base ! Ijust took a free class our public library was offering on reusing old book for Christmas crafts and made a book tree but didn’t have an idea for a base ! Thanks for sharing!😊 cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Oh, Nina! Your tree is splendid! I love the tall shape and the pedestal! Watching you make this has made this a delightful morning! You took me back to happy place! My mom always loved Christmas, and although we had next to nothing she loved making gifts for our neighbors. We had eleven other families in our building, so it was a challenge to find an idea we could afford. We had a grocery bag of old Readers Digest Books someone was throwing out and this is just what we made. Ours didn’t have pedestals. I love that idea. She got a spray can of green paint and a package of glitter at the five and dime store. It was the early 70’s. We were so excited about our lovely trees and the recipients were very pleased. I may need to make one for each of my my children with a story about their grandmother, so they will always remember what a generous spirit she was. TFS. I did. God bless and stay safe.
Hello Evelyn. Thanks for sharing this lovely story. I think that’s a lovely idea to make some for your children so that this memory can be passed down the generations. Every year I make my own Christmas Decorations and love having them on display and sharing them with friends and family. Alex has already claimed this tree and it is looking pretty on his windowsill. A good excuse for me to make another 🎄. Have a wonderful week and thanks as always for sharing ❤️ xo
It’s really effective isn’t it. I’ve never made a tree before, but I made a book folded hedgehog a few years ago with the kids to give to Steve’s mum and she still has it 🎄❤️
My mom and I made these back in the 60’s with Reader’s Digest magazines, and because it was the 60’s we added glitter to the edges. I love your more subtle version. Thanks for the blast from the past.
This is a must make for Christmas it is beautiful. I have a few thick magazines and some plastic reels, great alternative thank you. have a lovely evening and I hope your coping with this heat wave, its much too much for us. Cant wait until Monday when its suppose to be a little cooler. ❤❤❤
...and we used Readers Digest! Thanks for the reminder! This will be a easy, fun craft for the grandkids still at home (virtual school since March)...trying to find special things to do to make up for no school, no relative visits..etc.
Thanks Debbie, the wooden cotton reel was just perfect. I just love recycling and repurposing things and it looks really effective. Have a fabulous week 💕🎄 xo
Good morning nina, what a lovely idea, think I am going to give that a try today. I am still in pyamas, cup of coffee, sitting next to the christmastree .love it..the first thing I do now when I wake up is light the tree. This week I am going to decorate the house further, looking forward to that. Making cards, The christmas spirit has woken up. In me. Hope you will have a good and also look forward to the good things to come . Love and hugs lena xxxx
Hello Lena. Projects like this take me back to my childhood, so I always have that nostalgic feeling. There is nothing better that homemade decorations and I hope you will enjoy making yours too. Have a wonderful week. Love and hugs Nina xxx
Oh that’s lovely that this has reminded you if your Grandmothers house. My eldest son loved this tree and I will be making him one next Christmas. Happy Creating 💕🌲
Thanks Steph. These are so effective. I’m going to make another this week as Alex has run off with this one and it’s now on his windowsill! Happy Creating 💕🎄
Your tree is gorgeous, Nina. I also like the idea that they will all be different depending on what sort of book/magazine has been used. They will vary in size and colour. Lovely video and good ideas once more-many thanks!
My mother made trees like this when I was a small child. Money was tight but she always found a way to make decorations and gifts. It is why I enjoy art and crafts too.
When I was young, we used to make those out of Reader's Digest and they made cute small trees. A few years ago I started making them again, now that I live in an over 62 community. The residents went crazy over them again!!!
Oh I’ve done many of these back in the day but it was slightly different! This looks fabulous and I shall try doing them again if time allows! Tyfs🤗👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼☃️❄️☃️
Thank you so much Nina, that’s really really stunning and gorgeous too, and I’ve never done this before, although I’ve seen them. So I’m going to have a bash at this. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags. Yes please do some more things to decorate with.
Thanks so much for your kind words Mags. I love making homemade decorations so will carry on sharing ideas throughout the festive season. Have a wonderful week and Happy Creating 💕🎄 xxxx
Your tree is lovely, Nina. Years ago I read the instructions for making one and it seemed complicated. Seeing you make it has made all the difference. Tfs I've been working on the clothes peg snowflakes to bring an extra bit of Christmas cheer to some family and friends this unusual year. Blessings, Shell
It’s not difficult at all and very relaxing folding all those pages. I’m sure your family and friends will love their snowflake decorations. Who doesn’t love a homage decoration, especially at this time of year. Happy Creating 💕🎄❄️
Thank you for showing me a new way to make the trade I made it last year but I made him just a little bit different I made it the way I learned years ago but I like the way that you did it it's a little different but I like cuz I didn't do the magazine in between like you did at the half and half one way and half half another way I didn't do that way
❤️I remember doing this as a kid using the Readers Digest magazine! I have several so I might do this. We used to spray paint them gold. Great idea Nina. I am putting up my Christmas Village today and I may make a couple for background!
These are such an effective decoration. Alex has claimed mine and had popped it on his windowsill, so a good excuse for me to make another one. Your Christmas village sounds fabulous and I hope you’ll share some pics on FB. Happy Creating 💕🎄
Wowsers, this is outstanding and so easy to do. Sadly, the magazines I do have these days are used for my gluebooking and by the time I cut out images there won't be enough pages left in the magazine to do this lol. So might have to post something else into the group this week. Tfs xo
I love this colourful tree, and so does Alex as he’s run off with it and it’s now on his windowsill! Good excuse to make another 🎄. So many options this month and you could do any RRR with your magazines. Happy Creating 💕 xo
We always did these with Reader’s Digest magazine...sprayed them with gold spray paint...oh for the old days of Christmas
Yes there is something very nostalgic about making homemade festive decorations isn’t there 🎄
I remember doing this many years ago with Sears Catalogs. Now you can tell my age.🎄
😁. I’ve really enjoyed this last months festive crafty makes. I remember Alex and I making a book folded hedgehog a few years ago for Steve’s Mum and she still has it on her mantelpiece 💕🎄
