i've watched several historical documentaries of the civil war in which the very things that the pastor brought out. one of the major reasons i remember was monetary. the north was much more industrial and the other nations of Europe were as well and not in much need of the industrial north, but greatly in need of the agriculture products of the south, cotton, sugar, etc. seeing the south gaining in riches and trade, the north started requiring the south to contribute more to federal funds. the south refused and demanded more representation. i've also read that, just as the pastor said, the issue of slavery was not a major concern until Frederick Douglas and Lincoln became close and with Douglas's influence it became a major issue. i've also read that the conditions in the north with much of the employment for the iron plants was just as deplorable as the slaves in the south. they would invite people, most from the very poor, into conditions where they were furnished not only work but housing only to find it a trap to keep them still in poor circumstance, they could not afford to loose their job, shanties for housing and barely food to eat.
also have read that England was supplying the south with many needed items for the war besides thru the trading aspects. in a book called "The Suppressed Truth about the Assassination of Abraham Lincoln" by Burke McCarty makes the claim that the hierarchy of the RCC were in on the plot to kill Lincoln as well as helping the south during the war, feeling that if the north lost it would be much easier for the RCC to become dominant. i've read some of the book and i can see where, based on the history of how some became popes, where it could happen. there are a few claims that give me caution though. such as the Titanic sinking was an RCC plot, i think it was President Harrison the author referred to, believes he was poisoned after giving his inaugural address out in the cold for several hours. another book i've found interesting is "50 years in the Church of Rome" by Charles Paschal Chiniquay who was defended by Lincoln is a charge made by the bishop of Baltimore. in the book Chiniquay writes that Lincoln wrote to him this statement, "i see a dark cloud rising from the east headed for our nation, and that cloud comes from Rome." Chiniquay also writes that on the day Lincoln got him acquitted, while talking with Lincoln in Chiniquay's room, he started to cry. Lincoln asked him why he cried, he should be the most happy man, Chiniquay said, "i am in fear for your life, for what they will do to you for your help. i fear i have signed your death warrant." true? i don't know this side of heaven, unless more evidence comes to life. God had it recorded that "the secret things will be revealed" and in another place "they shall see your nakedness and shame." sometimes these saying come to be while there is still life on the planet.

At the 24:14 mark the point was brought up that false prophets can sometimes make correct predictions, but they are false because they lead you away from keeping the commandments of God.
