But its good to know that all it takes is parrying earlier in the window to allow for the game to catch up. At that point its just practice. So thank you.

Dodging, and more specifically, perfect dodging is certainly a skill that requires both deep knowledge of our foes and reaction timing. I will look into some tips that may help us overcome attacks that seek to penetrate our shields. Courage and Honour!
I noticed usually if you're dodging and the enemy clips through the invincibility frames, that tends to have a perfect dodge. Still requires a bit of knowledge of their attack patterns and speed, but waiting until you know that the only reason you didn't get hit was the I-frames does pretty well for me.

By the God Emperor, Brother Tony this demonstration of skill has invigorated my spirits! I shall immediately start practicing propper parries so that I may be more effective!
This is SO helpful for a core mechanic that isn't explained too well in game (like a lot of things, tbh... did you know about mortal wounds? That you can heal them with a stim while at full health? (Though that isn't recommended).) As a bulwark main I have STRUGGLED with the defence mechanics to the point of frustration. The game needs some balance, I think. It's more a dodge simulator atm, less the power fantasy of being a primaris! But this video is such a good help!! Bulwark's timings are def more "off", and finicky, which is odd, considering he's a parry based class with a great big energy shield and 2 types of sword.... This is poetry to watch, though. So cathartic seeing the parries. Though even you, an "expert" miss the odd one, and in combat, when surrounded, with multiple majoris all swinging and shooting and staggering you, with dodge-only attacks mixed in, that ONE miss quickly spirals you into a stun lock damamged state.
Hopefully this can help someone else, I thought I was going insane, but my parries were flawless in trials but could not for the life of me hit a single parry in operations. Turns out, if your melee weapon of choice has a defence type of Block, parrying with that is absolutely terrible and/or possibly impossible, and guess what, that is exactly the weapon type I had equipped. If you switch to balanced or fencing (fencing especially) the parry works and you get quite the timing window to hit your parry. I share this knowledge for the advancement of humanity and our assured victory against the enemies of our kind. While the enemies of the Emperor still draw breath, there can be no peace.
The simplest explanation i have is, when you tap block /parry what you actually do is enter a "parry window" you just need to make sure the opponents attack hits in that window and you get a parry. It feels harder that woth other classes because they can just tap it as late as they wan as their "parry window" starts from frame one, where with bulwark you can accidentally enter a block instead of a parry
Thank you... I came from Assault and went to this class next and I was having a difficult time wrapping my head on the parry system with the sheild. Almost have up on it till I came across this video.
great video. Double tapping seemed to be working well but it's just a bandage to make up for a lack of understanding. Now I have both a demonstration and an effective way to practice. Thank you very much.
Fencing chain sword or power sword is also great for ruthless difficulty. You're able to spam the parry key if surrounded by 10+ units. Makes you nearly unkillable and the power sword counter parry will cleave smaller units
Thanks a lot. I was looking for this video. I have a max level vanguard and I perfect parry 99% of the time. I am leveling up a bulwark and really struggling with parry. I figured out my mistake. if your struggling with parry timing this will help! 1. use a melee weapon with fencing stance 2. play on easy and let your self get surrounded 3. parry your way out
I believe it’s the weapon type. There’s Balance, block and fencing. Fencing seems to have the best window of parrying that feels normal. Block seems like it’s purely block focused. Balance explains itself. If you wanna parry often and more responsively, use the fencing style sword
@garthmarenghi4758 I still need to test by fire but I suspect the block weapons will be easier to use on bulwark since he can actually block. I'm picturing an aggressive heavy killer but it'll need an experienced player to shine
I thought I was crazy when playing the Bulwark for the first time and my parries were not landing, I figured out that I’ve gotta be a lot more precise and parry earlier than I had to playing the story mode.

Here's what the Google search came up with( "how to parry in Space Marine 2"): To parry, simply press L1 on PlayStation, LB on Xbox, or C on PC right before the attack hits you. Parrying an attack that is highlighted blue will also sometimes require an earlier parry than some players are used to, meaning you should parry as the enemy lunges at you, but before they begin the swing animation. Hopefully this helps while watching the video. It helps me😁 -We are the Hammer!
You know. I never like shit. even if I really do like it. but for some reason that little bit at the end made me be like: homie is cool. +1 like from me sir.
@@COA5T tried over and over, my bulwark always resort to block instead of parry for me sadly. I press block the second you do, the second his blade descends on me, always block. Perhaps it's bugged on playstation. EDIT* on playstation you need to double tap as block is certainly interfering with parry. If you block twice, you will see the parry animation.
thanks for the video. seems odd to do a parry when they start their attack as opposed to when they're about to hit you. that's what I was trying to do.
awsome, probably best explanation there is on entire RUclips. and would be perfect if we could see on the scrren an real time indicator of key strokes.
My thanks, Brother. I will seek out the Tech Priests in order to better understand technology that would allow to me enhance our visual training aids moving forward. Courage and Honour!
You're welcome, Brother! In Trial 1, you are given the default Chainsword which is a Balanced weapon. If you can master the timing with a Balanced weapon, then it will be even easier with a Fencing weapon.
After some time in the lab and getting it down I've come to report my findings. I found my problem was that I was reactive not proactively parrying. What I mean by that is you don't wait until the attack is about to land and react by parrying but parry well before they connect so that you have the stance up to receive the attack. This is in stark contrast to the very tight deflects on Sekiro and such that I was used to. After that small correction and understanding I went from missing everything to nailing every parry vs every attack. Go forth my brothers and eradicate our enemies.
Precisely, Brother! Your training has given you enlightenment. May the Emperor look fondly upon your newly sharpened blade and guide it the heart of our adversaries.
I am thankful to have relieved you of that burden, Brother. May your Battle-Brothers reflect on this visual training aid you have bestowed upon them, and that their blades may become even more dangerous on the battlefield.
Like and commenting for engagement, great video, exactly what I was looking for, hoping the advice transfers into the whip warriors too as they're the bane of my life lmao
Because bulwark is the only time you have a shield, i've gotten use to spamming the parry when over welmed and always do it too early. I also hold the button down too long and get overwhelmed very quickly 😅
Knowledge is understanding. Intelligence is the ability to take that knowledge and utilize it. I harbored no doubt that you would swiftly grasp this knowledge and transform it into intelligence. May your shield continue to protect the Imperium, Brother.
I’m struggling hard with bulwarks parries and understanding if/when I do it or don’t. It seems that for normal attacks you press the parry button immediately aka as soon as you see him start his animation. Then for blue attacks you have to wait until he is about to visually hit you then hit the parry button? Also can I hold block and do a perfect parry if I do it at the right time(Incase I mess up or there’s more enemies it’ll protect me) or do I HAVE to tap it? Secondly does double tapping work?
For me if I am blocking with the shield and an enemy attacks me with a blue attack such a heavy enemy, I have to double tap cause if I only press parry once, I stop blocking with the shield and don’t parry at all. Thus why you should double tap when you see the blue attack indicator
Man I was so confused when I parry sometimes, I get the little blue flash that appears when you hit a parry, but then I take damage from the attack immediately after.
I tend to have more consistency with a double tap. I like to block the horde, dodge attack to knock ‘em over for gun strikes, perfect dodge groups of larger mobs and parry when I’m up against 2 or so large mobs. Shield bash is useless in my personal opinion because a dodge sweep attack does a better job of relieving pressure. Trying to parry out of a block without double tapping gave me many issues possibly due to input lag.
Great tips, some can also be applied to other classes and good af idea to go into trials to practice! You can even practice combos! Give this brother a commendation from the emperor
@@Gellossgamer Ultimately yes, but also no(?). Parry on the first frame is amazing and now means you can pretty much press parry extremely late into the enemies swing animation, all the way up to right before it hits you. It's much closer to what a parry is in most action games. However, with the window being moved up to the first frame, whiffing a parry is punished heavily. My guide only applies to Balanced weapons now, as they still function the same.
Are you a power sword user? I've seen a lot of people trash talking it, but I think the skill curve might just be high. if your struggling with parry timing this will help! 1. use a melee weapon with fencing stance 2. play on easy and let your self get surrounded 3. parry your way out
I believe it’s the weapon type.
@@abjak2026 You possess a sharp mind and intuition. We are thankful you side with the Imperium, Brother.
First video ive watched that is actually useful ! Im gonna try this thank you 😊

Bruhhh i was running a block swore and constantly failing to parry. This make so much more sense now
Precisely, Brother. Balanced or Fencing weapons are the way forward.

Thanks it help me a lot, I was goint to give up with this char.
But for me is a double tap, because i'm pressing C while blocking, and to do the parry I have to press double C to do it. I don't know another way.
Thank you so much for your guidance, brother.
@@Renhaiv You are quite welcome, Brother. FYI After today's patch, Perfect Parrying became infinitely easier with 'Fencing' weapons, so this guide now only applies to Balanced weapons.
Bro is playing Sekiro 40k - nice video and thanks for the clear explanation
You're most welcome, Brother. I won't deny that my adventures in worlds such as Sekiro and other Souls games have served me well in the implementation of unorthodox strategies. That those journeys could afford me knowledge that would help safeguard the Imperium is but a boon.
really...this was a huuuuuuuuuge help. many thanks!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤

Ah so I'm just doing it wrong. Respect.
I really didnt think bulwark could parry, thanks for the video, im definitely going to go train like this later
This training is certain to prove fruitful and sharpen your blade, Brother.
Awesome ty, everyone else is all builds ad not explaining how to actually play the class, ty.
@@thesephisloth1886 You are welcome, Brother. While their work is certainly important and informational, I am glad to have provided a different level of insight that my Brothers can appreciate and put into practice.
@@COA5T YYou do the Emperors work Brother, ty
Great video man, more bulwarks need to watch this.
Here's what the Google search came up with( "how to parry in Space Marine 2"):
To parry, simply press L1 on PlayStation, LB on Xbox, or C on PC right before the attack hits you. Parrying an attack that is highlighted blue will also sometimes require an earlier parry than some players are used to, meaning you should parry as the enemy lunges at you, but before they begin the swing animation.
Hopefully this helps while watching the video. It helps me😁
-We are the Hammer!
I KNEW IT!!! I knew it had something to do with the timing. It didn’t occur to me that I needed to parry at the start of the animation😅
Your intuition was correct, Brother!
Something i believe is that people seem to miss is that some upgrades for melee weapons remove the ability to perform perfect counter's.
"I am not a heretic" 😂. 40k memes are unique because they are usually done in character
You know. I never like shit. even if I really do like it. but for some reason that little bit at the end made me be like: homie is cool. +1 like from me sir.
I am grateful for support, Brother! Emperor guide you.
Thanks man!
Ty, been struggling like shit getting parries with bulwark for some reason.
@@MrAlek1988 You are most welcome, Brother.
Thank you so much made it way better
Thank god. This video rocks sir. I so needed this info well done.
I am glad to hear that this will assist you in the slaughter of our adversaries, Brother.
awsome, probably best explanation there is on entire RUclips. and would be perfect if we could see on the scrren an real time indicator of key strokes.
My thanks, Brother. I will seek out the Tech Priests in order to better understand technology that would allow to me enhance our visual training aids moving forward. Courage and Honour!
Brother, Part 2 has been uploaded and includes an overlay per your request.
Thanks that was super helpful. Quick question, what sword type are you using balance or fencing?
You saved me having to make a vid to help some friends, thanks.
I am thankful to have relieved you of that burden, Brother. May your Battle-Brothers reflect on this visual training aid you have bestowed upon them, and that their blades may become even more dangerous on the battlefield.
What really clicked me for was 1. Do NOT hold the button; 2. Tap the button as soon as you see the indicator
Good luck brothers

You're welcome, Brother. The Emperor protects.
I was asking this same thing today in the discord. Thank you
You're welcome, Brother!
Great explanation, i was having trouble woth timing and holding button down
Emperor guide you, Brother!
Because bulwark is the only time you have a shield, i've gotten use to spamming the parry when over welmed and always do it too early. I also hold the button down too long and get overwhelmed very quickly 😅
Thx dude after a session of training, i got it :)
Knowledge is understanding. Intelligence is the ability to take that knowledge and utilize it. I harbored no doubt that you would swiftly grasp this knowledge and transform it into intelligence. May your shield continue to protect the Imperium, Brother.
So can you still parry while blocking? Or do you have to release the block before being able to parry?
@@qpblazer6301 You must release Block and tap the button/key again to Parry, Brother.
I don't know if this works on Xbox and PC, but on PS5 you can double tap the block button in order to parry with bulwark
I thought that is with pvp only.
Man I was so confused when I parry sometimes, I get the little blue flash that appears when you hit a parry, but then I take damage from the attack immediately after.
It feels like if you’re in motion that the parry is a bit slower on bulwark. Seems easier to nail it when you press it without a directional input
Some new players needs to learn this before even stepping out of minimal
I would agree that implementing these strategies early in a Space Marine's career will expedite combat proficiency by a considerable margin, Brother.
Thanks for making this video brother.
Thank you for attending this training, Brother!
very informative soldier. i hope your message reaches other astartes
Thank you, Brother!
I am honored to hear your recommendation for commendation. Thank you, Brother. May this information serve you well!
Did the most recent update help bulwarks with fencing weapons?
@@Gellossgamer Ultimately yes, but also no(?). Parry on the first frame is amazing and now means you can pretty much press parry extremely late into the enemies swing animation, all the way up to right before it hits you. It's much closer to what a parry is in most action games. However, with the window being moved up to the first frame, whiffing a parry is punished heavily. My guide only applies to Balanced weapons now, as they still function the same.
@@COA5T ah understood! Appreciate the explanation. I’ll probably practice with both a fencing then balance melee to see which one I like more.
Are you a power sword user? I've seen a lot of people trash talking it, but I think the skill curve might just be high. I'm taking a while to get the hang of it, but I'm just wondering which of the variants seems better. I went for the more block oriented variant and struggle to get parries against the bigger guys. Definitely going to try and focus on these tips. Thanks for the vid 🙏
You're welcome, Brother. Yes, the Power Sword is my most used weapon. I would recommend a variant that uses Fencing. Block weapon actual remove the ability to Perfect Parry which is why you were unable to parry, so I do not recommend that at all. Either Fencing or Balanced will work.
I'm playing on PC as well but I prefer the controller for this game. Is parry not on the same button as block with mouse and keyboard?
Yes, Brother. It is. I discuss in more detail in Part 2.
I didn’t know you could just hold the block like that. This game just got so much easier 🤣
@@glasfish I am glad you were able to gain some Intel, Brother. Part 2 goes a bit more in depth as well.

@@UppityBanana Of course, Brother. When making a custom armor set, select HERALDRY, go to the last tab and in the middle row there is a helmet pattern for the IRON HOUNDS. This particular helmet I am wearing in the video can apply this helmet pattern which adds a stripe. Not all helmets accept this pattern though.
