It's popular for typing in Japanese since you can just use one input instead of 2, and you can just look at the characters to recognize them instead of typing it out with English alphabet. Only on phones obviously, though. PCs just use normal JP Keyboard usually.
I would expect a Japanese keyboard to have more multifunctional keys or key inputs… There’s Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji, so that’s got to be many potential characters that you might want/need to type… And that’s before we get to the standard western alphabet, which may likely also be desirable to use on occasion… I might have to look it up to see how it all works… It’d be interesting to see if there’s a Japanese typewriter too… That could be really interesting…
@@KitsyX There is a japanese keyboard with the hiraganas, since there is a limit to the amount of hiragana, and to some extent katakana is equal. But for kanji, you still have to press in my case space to change to kanji, and if it is not the most used kanji you kind of have to look for the right one. Japanese is hard all we can do is find ways to turn around those issues. PS: I am not a native speaker, far from that, still on my ways to learning the language
@@KitsyX I do not know how actual Japanese PCs with Japanese keyboards work. It's very similar on a US Windows PC though, except you have more hotkeys for switching between katakana, hiragana, and kanji. This is called Japanese IME. You can install this IME (language and input method). You start typing in English (roman alphabet) and the appropriate kana will appear. At that point you can accept it, or press the space bar (I think, haven't used it in a while) to scroll through katakana and various kanji.
The keyboard makes way more sense for Japanese. Their mora system is typically arranged in groups of five, a-i-u-e-o, ka-ki-ku-ke-ko, sa-shi-su-se-so, ta-chi-tsu-te-to and so on. So you use one button per group and then you have five options, no drag, drag up, down, left, right and now you make it consistent so that the drag direction always corresponds with the same vowel
Sure, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's faster to type that way imo. I have both the 10-key keyboard and the Romaji keyboard downloaded, and personally the Romaji keyboard really helps me type in Japanese faster.
Can confirm, I have a JP mode on my phone's keyboard because I am trying to learn a little bit of Japanese, I use it to input it on those study/learning apps
Only Henya The Genious could legally get away with this typo. Now, if this was a Scarle Yonaguni incident, the comment would be legally valid tender to spend massive clippage on!
I have high respects for the people who got to use the number style word pad. The thumb power alone and what a thumb could do just to get to one letter then shift to the next, yet still type as if they were just pressing the words once.
so many ppl talking about autocorrect and T9 when neither was involved, also ~everyone who types hiragana instead of romaji on the phone uses that layout so it makes perfect sense to type english with the same layout
Not Find. Its Standard in Japan. Its a Japanese Phone keyboard. So obviously changing to the qwerty keyboard will be a confusing thing to relearn and switch back
So I've been translating Japanese. Apparently "Ne" is "See" as in "see that book over there?" So every time Henya says "Ne" they're essentially saying "see" CONFUSING! AINT IT!? 😊

JP people being incredibly intuitive with their writing systems as usual. _Pro tip:_ When your writing system has 3,000 characters to learn instead of around 30, that means it's incredibly bad. No, shush, I don't care how much it "saves space" or whether "haha wa hanasu" looks dumb in kana. You're wasting a decade or more of everyone's life, just to teach them to read and write! Tell me that's not the definition of insanity.
I lived in Japan and had a locally purchased smart phone. Those 9-key Japanese keyboards are so hard to use if you aren't Japanese. I always used a full QWERTY keyboard that let me type out the Japanese words in English letters and then click to select the kanji.
Ahhh I see the mistake. Japanese still use the T9 keyboard format instead of the standard qwerty keyboard. I guess that was carried over from the earlier phones. While we Westerns use the standard board to type in Japanese because its easier to spell out the words in English. We cannot fault her on that. I also just tried it on my phone......Makes perfect sense LOL.
So it's like she's texting in the 2000s except with a touchscreen. Interesting. Now that I think about it, It was kind of nice being able to type out and send a text without needing to look at the phone back then. Quick messages while in class or at the dinner table were a lot less obvious. Can't really do that without physical keys though lol.
It’s far easier to type in Japanese using a T9 keyboard on a phone, since as you can see on the left screenshot, it’s far more compact and less prone for mistypes. Her mistake is not switching to a full keyboard when typing in English (or checking it over before sending the tweet).
That is a very interesting way to use a phone's keyboard. Haven't encounter it so far and would be interesting to try it and see if I get similar mistakes.

Yeah, me too! I did not expect the old phone buttons format. I didn't think this format was still used in texting around the world.
