I don't often say this in music, but in my opinion, this cover is better than the original. Amazing stuff here. They seemed to add just enough in the right areas to truly bring out the eery nature of this song. Extra heavy bass, a little more distortion, and you have perfection. I can't stop listening to this. I won't even start on Chino's voice.
For those of you who kept saying that smith wasn't impressed with any of the covers, look closely at 2:18 and he is definitely grinning from ear to ear! Excellent cover by an extraordinarily talented group of musicians!
I've been a Cure fan for over 25 years now. Some covers of their music are good, some suck. This one is GREAT. I had never listened to the Deftones before this, but will check out their other stuff based on this cover. It was cool to see Roger O'Donnell getting into this song (he is the Cure member in the audience they keep flashing back to).
That's just an awesome cover. I've never been a fan of the Deftones but this could change all that. The attention to detail is what kills me. My favorite part 3:54.
Given how unique Robert Smith's voice is for the most part it makes covering Cure songs pretty hard. Chino's probably the only singer who can do this tune properly and sincerely.
@StraightRazor99 I know, haha. I'm not sure if this is the same show, Robert looks different, but it made me think of the cover of Just Like Heaven AFI did, and the look on Robert's face during that was not a happy one. Was that a run-on sentence?
@simionTheOne Elbow are a lot different than the Cure, but they ARE great and they are still together. But the Cure blew me away for many many years and nothing makes me feel as excited about a band now as they did then.
I first heard this song on the b sides and rarities cd and loved it, I dont know how but I heard from somewhere that that song was performed infront of the cure, and that it was theyre song. now that I'm youtubing and seeing all the coparisons between who does it better I have to comment. Robert smiths vocals does nothing for this song, and as far as I'm concerned this shit now belongs to the DEFTONES. I'm only being honest.
Meh, sometimes second takes are the best ^^. Skindred used a second take for their music video for rat race and thats a good song. You know what they say....If at first you dont succeed try, & try again
...NOT the stones, NOT zepplin, NOT Sabbath, I'd like to see RS cover "fist" or "dai the flu" or "boys republic" or "change" or "xerces" and do HALF the quality performance that Deftones did on this song. in closing, RS is a hack and the Cure should be priveleged that a group as amazing as Deftones would cover their overrated music.

I keep going back to this,, it is so full on addictive, far out, it's just the best cover Ever...!!
without a doubt my favourite cover by Deftones, they simply never disappoint, also gotta love The Cure ^^

one of the best covers I've ever heard. it's tottaly a deftones song
For those of you who kept saying that smith wasn't impressed with any of the covers, look closely at 2:18 and he is definitely grinning from ear to ear! Excellent cover by an extraordinarily talented group of musicians!
beautiful!!! sends chills through my body...
The best Cure cover that night... amazing!
All of the guys in The Cure had smiles on their faces when the Deftones played that night. That says a lot!
Respect well-deserved. :)
What an excelent rendition to the cure. The Deftones kick so much ass!!
i ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE CURE AND DEFTONES...EXCELLENT COVER..COMMING FROM A HUGE CURE FAN~!!!!
71 Days and counting, and I will see you live, YES, please play this, it will be fully appreciated.. xxoo ;-)
You can see it in their eyes and smiles... Deftones fucking killed it!

Wish you had of played this at the BDO, you fully went off though, & it was so bloody HOT, am stoked to have seen you live at last! Thankyou.. xo :-)
Huge fan of The Cure here. This rocks! So dark, so moody... Perfect!
Thank you for posting this!
when chino started singing I just couldn't believe how perfect his voice suits robert's
Modern day Zeppelin. No one can touch the Deftones. They kickass and take names on everything they do.
A show hosted by Marylin Manson, where Deftones play a Cure cover- coolest event ever.
Great cover, great camera angles, great vid...
this takes me to another dimension
That's the power of The Cure influence, great job Deftones!
Flawless
@LandOfMutants The best cover i saw that evening, take care...
I thought this would fail miserably! It was great.
this is the best version,,,
This is probably how the Cure intended it to sound, Deftones funking rock.
Given how unique Robert Smith's voice is for the most part it makes covering Cure songs pretty hard. Chino's probably the only singer who can do this tune properly and sincerely.

Yeah awosome Performance...
love love love
deftones+if only tonight=musical nirvana
wow...this is actually reallyyy...good. The voicals are great, almost Robert Smith worthy :)
Deep love.
this the best the cure cover
How sick do you have to be to click dislike??? LOVE IT!!!!!!
@LandOfMutants
This was their second take. The first try didn't go so well. Just a little info for all.
@simionTheOne Elbow are a lot different than the Cure, but they ARE great and they are still together. But the Cure blew me away for many many years and nothing makes me feel as excited about a band now as they did then.
@PKP405 Robert Smith at 3:55 - he didn't look all that impressed there or at the end but who's surprised about that.....
Please, can you play this song at the Sydney BDO,, thank you. I'll be there, melting...
@atomicinjun
That's like saying you're not a fan of breathing in my book.
Better than the original
the keyboards remind me of being in the water temple on Ocarina of Time
IF ONLY TONIGHT CHI WOULD WAKE FROM HIS SLEEP :(
SKILLZ
@krut917 yeah! another Zelda gamer :D
@beforethree u forgot duran duran, brody. lol
your right you know it sounds a bit like it
@beforethree WHATT??
is ma richtig geil
@pricha24 The Deftones don't have ONE ORIGINAL SONG that is NEARLY as good as this.
I first heard this song on the b sides and rarities cd and loved it, I dont know how but I heard from somewhere that that song was performed infront of the cure, and that it was theyre song. now that I'm youtubing and seeing all the coparisons between who does it better I have to comment. @Watermellin That's idiotic - it's harder - but not better.
@krut9 man you're right!!!
chino can do anything!!! skynard, smith, SADE'
Where is this? Award show?
@krut917 it totally does!
i fucking love this song, but the cures version is the best
@twochordcool basically everything they've ever put on a record is better than what you think is "good" you fail at life. good day sir.
Wow has any1 ever seen the video to rocket skates off their new album diamond eyes? Chino is getting skinny once again =)
Meh, sometimes second takes are the best ^^. Skindred used a second take for their music video for rat race and thats a good song. You know what they say....If at first you dont succeed try, & try again
shame about the quality. There are higher quality versions of this clip floating around.
@twochordcool You obviously don't listen to the Deftones.
now that i know its mm i change my thoughts,but i guess i shouldnt:p
i can't sleep :/
don't forget Duran Duran!
I thought the original was from the Cure?
@opiet510 Well, it's how it'd meant to be, look at the Cure guys...... They want this.... :)
why does everybody in the crowd look like gothic vampires??
i love he original but for me this version trumps it. only two songs really beat their originals. this and no quarter by tool.
@krut917
me too!
i just came
:D LOL
5 people pressed the wrong like button :D
@krut917 hahahaha your right
lol is that marilyn manson? wtf
would you expect any less from Marilyn Manson?
nice try, but i prefer the original by the cure. on-one beats the voice of robert smith, but not a bad cover though.
@jaymz81 Weezer
@bigmike690069 Haha, the only hot goth chick at 2:04 I see is Abe. ;) Na, she's at 2:07.
