When using IR designation you should ask the JTAC to draw an "8" with the beam (it's called the "snake") to make sure you see where the beam comes from and avoid blue on blue. A real JTAC told me that mistake happened in real... (firing on the source of the beam)
@@grimreapers aircraft can also ask the JTAC to "rope" or "lasso" to mark their position initially, followed by "snaking"(drawing an 8) over the target. I don't know if it is modeled in DCS, but you would also want to give the aircraft a heading offset from your direction to the target. This avoids them picking p the source of the laser rather than the target. It is generally a 30 degree arc on either side of the laser-target line, offset by a 10 degree buffer. So if your direction to target was 270 degrees, their ingress heading would be 230-260/280-310 degrees.
re the IR Marker (IZLID); if you want to confirm which end is friendly they do what's called a snake or rope. Essentially you make a snake motion on the target once the jet has visual on the IR marker; the end that doesn't move is friendly and the end that moves is the target. Once the jet confirms they see the snake or rope you then settle the IR marker back on the target. Note: with something like the A-10 you can also do a laser hand-off; he can search your laser code on the pod and slew the sensor to your laser spot too.
the funny thing that paveway that wasent fused would have killed the abrams IRL, a direct hit form a 500 pounder would have with 98% likelyness still imbedded itself in the dirt after going though the top and out the bottom of the tank leading to a significant emotional event for the crew inside
8:36, the pointer is never used stationary. Look at all the vids of sparkle being used, it is always waved about on the target so that there is no way you can mess up which end is who
Ref the smoke mark, you would never use smoke directly on the target as it would obscure it, only have to drop smoke near it so as to talk from the smoke to the target. Also, there's no such thing as using another smoke as an ingress marker, that's done in the 9line if doing IP or keyhole CAS. and coloured smoke is only in hand thrown size, you would never be able to throw it that far. As for the PW, you put the laser on to early, you should have a 10sec call. Aircraft should release the weapon, and 10secs before impact, the laser on call comes from the aircraft. if you put it on too early, the weapon will run out of energy and fall short For IR, you "rope" the aircraft first, point the LIZLID direct in the air so as the pilot can see it, once he is visual, the JTAC will say "friendlies at base of rope" then Snake, weaving the IZLID (not figure of 8) towards the target, pilot again says contact snake. then its sparkle, the IZLID is the "scratched" on the traget, doing a small cross on the target

Hi, PoorOldSpike in Plymouth UK here, I bought CA recently but am a bit fed up because I can't find a way in my single-player created missions to make the AI enemy ground units start in a random location each time i crank up the mission so that I won't know which direction they're coming from, and each game will therefore be refreshingly different and unpredictable. Is such randomness possible in some way?
dont know if you will respond but how hyped are you for the F-16 coming to dcs cause im so excited its my favorite jet. Also your content is awesome and keep it up.
U have to add him the FAC option in the advanced settings. And there u can choose the Group which he have to designate. And u can restrict which designation he have to do. Smoke laser WP. But u have to be care with laser (LOS and distance)
You can set either lat long or MGRS as the player JTAC in the options menu. Which when you lase gives you a target grid readout. You can verbally transmit this to a JDAM capable jet
@@gordonbradbury4807 Thx. I know, and cycle with Alt+Y but I need to know if is the new LAT/LONG system for the Hornet/JDAM/JSOW also available as JTAC. For example: N23 45 34,35 E014 34 56,33
@@SurvivalRD If the JTAC lases you'll have those co-ords. But for JDAM you'll also need the target altitude as well (in addition to the grid). When the JTAC lases it's display in the far left of the JTAC screen (the target altitude).
